2014 Cup of China Mens Short Program 11/07

Well, that was certainly fun to watch. Definitely. And knowing the long program layouts a couple of those top men have planned, I feel like tomorrow's event will be great fun to watch as well. :)

I liked the Chopin program a lot! --But I think Hanyu was over-scored...or possibly Han-yan was underscored?
I thought Han-yan's skating skills and interpretation should have been marked higher.
Welp...

I think Yan is underscored and Kovtun is overscored. I would have Kovtun at 81, Hanyu at 80, and Han at 80.

I believe Han Yan has also scored +3 for the 3A...and deserves to...when he lands it properly.

Yes, I was looking forward to see Han Yan's super-3A, today:cry:
and I think Yuzuru's 3A deserved for +3.

I hope both of them, and others, will have good performances tomorrow.

Maybe some judges agreed with you but apparently some others didnt when it got factored out. I still can't believe Han got -GOE on every jump and stayed in third. That's pretty impressive.

It is not "embedded Russian high PCS", it is the inflated PCS that the #1 skater from every strong federation gets, Russian or otherwise. Unfortunately, at this moment, Kovtun is regarded as #1 in Russia, although I hope that will change next season...

Yet did you seen the ladies result? 2 years ago those first 2 performance wouldn't get anything over 65 with a 3T3T. We are not even talking about some amazing program or interpretation there? How things changed.

Kovtun was overscored on PCS but its almost like Hanyu completely omitted a jumping pass by tripling the quad and no combo. Loved Yuzu's program though it didn't deserve 44 points PCS with the errors. I know people hate on Kovtun because he's Kovtun but that's a well deserved lead and Hanyu is very fortunate that Kovtun missed his axel, which is very rare.

General PCS inflation all around then? I can see a very clear difference between the quality of skating for Han Yan and Kovtun though. I don't contest the placements, because landing 2 quads in your short program is very impressive, but the PCS should probably be lower for Kovtun. JMO

No, compared to the rest of the ladies field, the top 2 ladies deserved to be scored in the high 60s, although I think Liza should not have been behind Yulia. Don't forget that Polina was scored rather generously too even though she had no combo. You should not be talking about marks in absolute terms but in relative terms instead.

Are people seriously nipticking about Hanyu's +3GOE,cus you won't see anything better. It's a shame the camera angle doesn't capture it but he has great height and distance on it as well, plus the entry/exit,overall flow and timing with the music. It checks all boxes
I would have put him between 79-80,even he looked surprised when he saw the scores

Kovtun's Bolero is better than I expected, but still his PCS is a bit more than he really deserves IMO. SS higher than Han Yan:scratch:
So sad that Yuzuru and Yan make so many jump errors today. Yuzuru's program would be gorgeous if he skates it cleanly.
Han Yan's SP does not give me as much surprise as his previous one, but very entertaining step sequence.

Oh my God. This thread is so funny. Some members of the board are literally seething
IMO Max did REALLY well. I mean 2 quads and very good and difficult step seq, not bad spins. Absolutely deserved 1st place today. And his SS are much better from last time I've seen him. Really impressive skate.

If it is in relative terms, then the gap shouldn't be that wide between 2nd and 3rd. What is the point of competition if the judges are so set in their view to determine the winners, even if they only went for the easiest 3/3?
I agree Liza should be above Julia.

Not really seething...just disappointed with all the 'top' guys today.

I'm ok with the placing. I'm ok with the scores as well, but if people are complaining about Yuzuru's PCS than I bring out Kovtun.

Could you please go and bash the girls on their topic? Thanks.

I'm in the minority, but I'd love Kovtun to win here overall.

Me too. But I'm almost sure Hanyu will be on top after FP. I will be happy even with 2nd place. But If Kovtun will win, I think the mods will close men thread
