2014 Rostelecom Cup Men's Free Skate 11/15

What does this mean? Are you personally attacking another poster because they don't agree with your position on a skater? For example. I find an emphasis on quads quads quads to be dull dull dull, I find that Misha and Jason both skate with heart and with passion and with artistry that I like. I would never personally call someone names if they disagreed with me. Am I missing the point?

I think its just a joke built around the absurd nature of calling a poster overhyped like they were a skater.

Easy balletanddancefan , I was only slightly joking, a bit of distance please, I have no problem that you see other placements :hb:

Never mind, El Henry. I wrote: I love Misha! And even Jason. But I think in this competition Jason was better. But I like to see both! What to HanDomi written in Italian is called simply: caffonaggine! (senza limiti)

HanDomi explained he was joking and now I understand, but I did not before. I know we love our skaters, but it is only skating

e capisco quello che hai scritto in italiano, sei tanto gentile,

I don't really like Jason Brown, general impression is very immature, poor technical skill and trying to do all the transitions possible while his performance suffers from it. He had only the 4. best PCS which just doesn't fly. I don't even like Fernandez too much but he's about 2 tiers above Brown in performing and actually has quads(And triples).

I also would have placed Misha Ge above Brown in PCS, even though I'm not really a huge fan of him either at least he's convincing.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but you might want to take a look at the protocols again.

Without a quad, Jason placed fourth in the free skate, behind only Fernandez (3 quads) Brezina (2 quads) and Voronov (1 quad). Yet the base technical value of his quadless program, at 75.36, was only 3.61 points lower than Fernandez's program; 1.24 lower than Brezina's, and was actually 3.55 points HIGHER than Voronov's. In addition, his total GOE, at 4.96 points, though far lower than Voronov's at 9.48 points, was actually higher than both Fernandez's (4.46) and Brezina's (4.38) (who also had a 1.0 deduction for a fall). So it's pretty clear that the judges disagree with your assessment that Jason has "poor" technical skills. I personally think Voronov was overmarked in GOE, but hey, the judges disagree.

With respect to PCS, I actually think Jason was undermarked in the FS, but again, the judges disagree. I will note, though, that his personal best component score is 85.84, which is substantially higher than both Voronov's (80.56) and Brezina's (80.66), though quite a bit lower than Javi's (91.18).

OK. But we need talk about the quad done well, no attempts! How many quads done well we watched today?

He finished 5th cause of being 7th in the SP. People mess up. But he made an admirable comeback placing 4th in the FS. I guess if you want to see the glass half-empty, that's your call. Also the fact that the winner of the event only beat him in TES by 3 points (and that's with Jason making a huge error in his triple lutz), doesn't exactly make a HUGE case of the oh so superior quad.

Oh well, YMMV.

I think our skaters have gotton too soft. So what if its because of 7th in the short. And, his free was nothing great. Barely made it through many of the elements.

We need less champs camp and more champs. After Kerrigan had the dissaterous skae at 1993 worlds a reporter said But Nancy you skate so beautifully. She said - yeah? why don't I win?. She got a sports psychologist, dropped a bunch or weight started a program of intense fitness for the long. In a year's time she was a tough competitor - enough to take a bash on the knee, keep going and win silver in the closest call in history. If you don't have that kind of toughness and drive you don't belong in elite sports. I'm slade there is more money in the sport now - endorcements - but I think American skaters are lazy.

I watched the videos one last time. Maybe you kill me ... but as an outsider I have a question: what made Voronov between two jumps on the ice? Wonder: would not be more simple to give the score only to jump and that's that? I fell asleep because I saw that nothing happened between two jumps
Well, I think the difference is the skating order. Jason skated in the first group, disadvantage over PCS. Voronov had a strong SP so that's why.

Jason got second group PCS. I expected they were not going to give 80 points unless the program was absolutely perfect, which it wasn't (while it was really good).

Haven't read the thread yet, but after looking at Jason Brown's performances, particularly his reaction after his free skate, he was definitely affected here by the recent death of his manager, Shep Goldberg. Another learning experience for Jason. Having to skate during a difficult time dealing with the death of someone you care about. He did an admirable job, considering. But yes, Jason obviously still has a lot of work to do. Unlike an article I read recently where Tara Lipinski voiced "disappointment" with Jason this season, I think Jason is doing fine at his own pace.

In no way does Sergei Voronov deserve higher PCS or even comparable PCS to Jason Brown. Voronov is purely a tech skater with rough presentation skills, IMHO. Obviously though, Jason was not at his absolute fighting best here.

Totally agree.

I have to say that while I know second group PCS is a reality, it's a dumb reality.

I think he was crying because he is a sensitive and very young artist under pressure. He put a lot of emotion in the FS (NOT just jumps.) He was very emotional with tears in his eyes. I liked them beacuse there were the tears of a young man who isn't ashamed to weep.
And yes, I agree Jason obviously still has a lot of work to do. I hope he will do it.
And Tara Lipinski (in Italian because I don't find the right English phrase: NON ME NE FREGA UN.... )
And I agree e thanks for this phrase: In no way does Sergei Voronov deserve higher PCS or even comparable PCS to Jason Brown

He doesn't really get emotional usually. That's the first time I've seen him cry after a skate and I've been watching him since he was in juniors. I really think he just had a hard week with Shep Goldberg passing away. Kori hinted that it has not exactly been a great week for him.

I don't agree that Jason is an emotional ARTEEST. It's just not his personality generally.

TBF, he did get a little red-eyed at nationals after the FS.

I actually wonder if this FS is kinda designed to push his emotional ARTEEST buttons and make him grow a little that way.
