2015 US Nationals Senior Ladies FS Jan 24

I can't believe I slept through 3 alarms and only woke up right AFTER Ashley skated. But so happy she skated so well and won her title back in style!!! Is there a livestream to watch the medal ceremony???

Not normally a fan of Ashley's but that is the best performance I have ever seen of hers. World class. Every move, step and jump was done with confidence; it made the performance ring. Kudos to Karen and Gracie; definitely belong on the podium.

I heart Gracie's skating, but Ashley came through. Major redemption from last year. Good competition!

Good job Ashley. She will make the world podium if she preforms like this. Who can challenged this?

That wasn't "some inflation", it was like 15 points of inflation. The definitely underrotated Salchow was ignored (the 3Toe was as well, but I'll be nice there) and PCS + GOE's that make her look like Kwan and Cohen combined.

I guess I'll have to watch it again. I thought the salchow was fine but you know what you are talking about :) . I liked Johnny's pointed comment that only certain skaters were being targeted for rotation replays. Maybe Ashley benefitted..

That was an amazing couple of hours of great figure skating. NBC have done a great job this time. I got into it.

Well don Ashley- the score is indicitive of her potential. Gracie showed so much determination in the face of a difficult situation. Very happy for Karen

So sad for Mirai though. Absolute rotten luck. Thats why you do run throughs- so when something happens, you can condition yourself better to deal with the situation- and she dealt it the best that she could. Honestly she couldve stopped but she kept going. I wish her the best.

Sorry, that was not a 133 program. High 130s is more like it. The triple toe was definitely not underrotated, please don't start with that "all that matters is 2.25 revolutions, you can even land forward" stuff again. :rolleye:

Polina definitely goes to Worlds. If she hits the jumps, she has more scoring potential than Samantha does, especially once you add in the transitions in her program, and the speed. I like Samantha, but I think it's either she goes to 4CC or her season ends here; USFS might want to give Polina another opportunity before Worlds to get her jumps under her correctly. Same for Gold, as she's continuing to return from injury. And Wagner will want to go to continue to show that she can be in the running for a World medal (which can also apply to Gold).

I agree. As long as Liza doesn't bring out the 3A or some new content, Ashley could probably challenge for gold at worlds with that free and a cleaner sp.
The problem is that international judges don't seem to like Ashley. Out of dozens of clean programs, none have broken the 130 range. As for Liza, she replied to someone on her Instagram saying she might try it at euros but not world's.

I was never a big Ashley Wagner fan (and to be honest I still don't think I will be), but congratulations to her on the wonderful performance! The program was engaging throughout and she delivered.

Also, is it just me or did Gracie look like she was walking a little too fast out of the building (i.e. avoiding reporters)?

Who knows. Maybe she had to go the ladies room before the medal ceremony.

Guys keep Sochi out of this thread. Don't make the job hard for the mods. Adelina is not at U.S. Nationals.

No problem. My fault for bringing it up. Just annoyed at people who act like the US is the only country with inflated nationals scores for programs that are amazing and deserve to be rewarded.

I have been critical of Ashley. I honestly felt she was past her prime.

I publicly repent of this. That skate was magnificent. Technical prowess, artistry, emotion.

I am especially proud of the way she has upped her technical content... and improved on her technique.

It's somewhere over on FSU. And everyone over there ripped her comments apart.

My dislike for Polina doesn't come from the fact that she was picked over Mirai last year. My dislike for her comes from her skating, and we're all entitled to our opinion, but I'm just not a fan. Her jumps are barely squeaked out; she's too gangly; she's slow across the ice; her music and packaging is such a bore. Her being picked to the Olympic team is really secondary to all of this, and thus, I think Polina was way overscored last year at Nationals.

That's an actual opinion as opposed to spite. It's like the difference between me saying to you, I think you're wrong about Paulina because x, y, z" and "I hope you break your fingers so you can't type."

Just sayin'...

I thought 15 points too much as well. For just the free. It makes the competition look cheap
