2015 US Nationals Senior Ladies FS Jan 24

She probably will get two due to alternates but finishing higher at this Nationals would really have helped her case for a host pick which would have been the easiest route to two for her.

I imagine she would get NHK and the host pick for Skate America. They gave it to Caroline a few times for no good reason, and Mirai is more popular while not being a threat to the skater they want to win: Ashley.

Judges love Ashley enough and to me her components on international competitions are as high as she deserves. I do wish her to medal at Worlds. She has a long career and a true spirit of a fighter. It would be pity if she does not medal at this Worlds, because next year I believe it would be even harder.
However, I am very much against that U.S. nationals inflate technical scores so much. It serves badly first of all for the skaters: instead of concentrating on fixing minor mistakes, URs, edges, one might think that everything is great and then be punished on the international level.

When I said that I meant her goes were too high. Improper scoring 9/10 always comes from goe.

Is that so? I find it hard to be convinced by your grand and sweeping statement. Please show your evidence, cite the relevant protocols and IJS rules, complete with proper cross referencing to replays and any other relevant data. I'd love to see a convincing argument. I'm waiting patiently...

63-65 in PCs isn't that great... Now 68+...

She got the highest PCS in SC. In the SP at TEB she got highest points, and just one point less in the free from the first place, with a poor long. At GPF she again got one point less in the SP despite being in the last place, and second in the free in terms od PCS. How is that not great and not "loved"?

Awww... Baby Karen made the press conference. I fear for her, the other 2 ladies looks like frosty tigresses.

Ashley was amazing. I have always been a fan of hers, and to see her skate like that was amazing. I'm so happy for her. Now, let's see her do this at Worlds and she's got herself a world medal.

Karen Chen was so great, and I like her a lot better than Polina. I hope they send her to Worlds.

I also think she'll get NHK but SA is trickier. Bell, Pierce, Cesario, even Hicks are good candidates (Cesario, Hicks are only gonna be guaranteed one spot also). Following the Zhang theory, Gao is a possibility. I truly think it could go to any of those 6 (Mirai included in the 6). Now, she may get a second spot anyway since I imagine she'll be relatively high on the alternate list, but that's a wait and pray situation, and also tricky since USA can't have more than 3 skaters at each event and we are lucky enough to have many skaters strong enough to make the GP.

I think Ashley does get good PCS internationally. it's her tech content that's been holding her back. Even at GPF the 3-3 sequence was under-rotated and she lost points on her spins. but these are the cleanest jumps i've seen from her in forever. i hope she keeps it up and gets a world medal! :agree:

I would love for her to win the world title and break the score record to silence her critics once and for all. Tonight was the first time she put it all together. I'm so happy for her.

Thank you! The thread is filled with "15 points of inflation" over her baseline international score...

But I think she skated 15 points better than I've ever seen her skate.

That's the whole idea, right? You skate better, you score better.

As for Gracie, I thought she did a good job. Wagner's skate couldn't have been easy to follow, and she had already spotted Ashley some points in the SP. She had to know it was out of reach.

I appreciate that Ashley is giving Gracie credit for pushing her. And I agree Ashley is better for it.

Karen is such a little cutie in the press conference but she is very straightforward. It's really NBD for her. I love it.

She's too young for senior worlds :-(

Well i think its been shown very clearly what the mechanisms are for over scoring in COP:
1) ignoring mandatory deductions: edges, urs, etc.
2) inflating goe: keeping negatives from being too negative and boosting positives through the roof.
3) pcs in a "corridor": because pcs is not used to judge the program the skater skates, but the reputation of the skater and the body of work.

Judges and callers use all three of these to get the results they want.
