I have to say that was a pretty good press conference. Gracie is taking this better than I thought. Good for her.

What an amazing competition!

Ashley: MAJOR RESPECT!! I'm so proud of her! So many people doubted her (me included, I won't lie) but to see her come out and nail that FS tonight...I was clapping and screaming for her. I love how she manages to find a way to elevate herself. So proud of her.

Gracie: I have to give her props for skating so well after Ashley tore the roof of the building. There was no way (even if she hadn't fallen) that she was going to catch Ashley. I thought she gave a gutsy performance but there was no "performance" from her. She focused solely on the jumps and that caused the program to fall rather flat. She's gotta work on that. I actually would have had her 3rd in the FS. Still good to see her put up a decent fight...Ashley was just too good.

Karen: I've been singing Karen's praises for years now, so it feels so great to see her come out and deliver at her first senior nationals. She was outstanding in both programs and I'm so happy to see the judges give her her due. Incredible speed, big jumps, wonderful spins, great performance and sparkle...she was my pick for a potential spoiler and she did it! Boy, do I love being right!

Polina: After the pizazz and flair of Ashley and Karen, Polina almost put me to sleep with her FS. I really do like her but her skating is missing something. It was good to see her have two strong skates but in order for her to move up she is going to have to re-evaluate her packaging. The dress, the hair...the pleasant but not particularly interesting FS music. She needs something to help her stand out and that FS, pretty as it is, is not it.

Great night of skating! I'll do my complete review on my blog but wow! Great event!
Me too about Karen. I also found the skating and skating order of Karen right after Mirai to be quite an instance of juxtaposition; the past and the future before our very eyes.

Whe is the Junior Worlds championship?

First week in March.

The question for me is who the heck they're going to send for the second spot? Mariah Bell is junior eligible. So is Hannah Miller. I don't think they will send Amber Glenn after doing so poorly in the FS. (She has yet to skate a clean FS all season long).

Ashley was great. Considering quality of her performance she might have gold at GPF.
Overall competition was fun too and found out some interesting talent like Chen and Cesario or cuteness of Mariah.

Inflation was not a problem but generous technical judging about jump(especially UR or DG) is.
I don't mean strict judge is better.
But international judges are way stricter than USs...

I am clearly in the minority, but I thought her jumps were clean tonight. Or at least clean enough for a benefit of a doubt.

Both Karen Chen and Evgenia Medvedeva both should have placed higher than bronze in their nationals.

I'm so happy for Ashley and I'll admit when Gracie fell, I thought about Ashley getting her title back. I hope she can bring us another performance like this on an international stage. I still worry about her 3Lz edge though, US judges may overlook it but international judges are much stricter.

but honestly I was impressed with Gracie, she still doesn't connect to her music at all but I saw some more fight in her and it was obvious she wanted that title, nerves have always been her weakness and even though she fell, she really held it together. She was a good competitor today which she isn't very often and I hope to see more of that from her in the future and less empty programs. Frank needs to realize already that Gracie isn't some classical girl who can skate to stuff like POTO. Gracie is a modern girl but pop music might be a bit too jarring for figure skating, her All That Jazz Ex was a lot better, she can do something more jazzy and upbeat.

She's not my favorite like I already said but I feel sad for that program. She can definitely do better than that. I do think the music is a good choice for her. Hope she'll keep it for next year.

I am clearly in the minority, but I thought her jumps were clean tonight. Or at least clean enough for a benefit of a doubt.

I'm with you both. :)
