2015 Four Continents Men's Short Program Feb 12 Seoul Time

Though I'm probably going to be awake for SOME of the last bits. But I won't be able to watch it. I'm sending spirit though!

Yeah I was kinda surprised that I picked it up better than gen chem. But it's probably due to that orgo is more visual to me and I'm a visual learner.

That has to explain it (I'm more visual too). I swear I got through (with A's!!) freshman chem knowing NOTHING, or thinking I knew what I was doing only to forget it ten minutes later.... That was a nightmare! :) It also helped that some fraternity friends had a complete file of old exams with this professor. I basically just memorized old exams and hoped for the best.

Nice....lol I wish I got an A for the class.

I won't be watching the Men's SP event live...I'm going to have to forcibly keep myself from logging on to Golden Skate and any other news outlet because I promised my family I'd watch the Japan broadcast with them...and that's TOMORROW!!! Sigh. I must be strong.

I know that. I was saying that because in that thread you said "Go Nam" in response to the post referring to Yuzuru.
It's called a comparison. Maybe this year we'll have another skinny 16-year-old in his first senior season winning a surprise silver. (Though I don't want another splatfest. I've had enough of those at Europeans. :bang:)

I have a million things to do tomorrow so I know I won't be able to stay up and watch live. It's tempting to wake up around 5 am though to catch the last few groups though...I wonder if I'll be able to manage waking up that early or if I'll just end up shutting off my alarm and going back to sleep.

What a coincident comparison.
14 years old Yuzuru came 12th at JWC - 4 years later young Nam 14 years old came 12th at JWC
15 years old Yuzuru won JWC - 4 years later young Nam 15 years old won JWC
16 years old skinny Yuzuru at 4cc with clean quad won Silver - 4 years later skinny 16 years old at 4cc with his quad on the way ...

GO NAM:cheer:

I think Sandpiper was suggesting that Nam could repeat Yuzuru's feat.

Am I the only one who is going to wait a couple years for Nam? He is not a great SKATER, his spins and jumps are good for a rambunctious kid, but I really am not impressed by his skating. At all. His quad is wonky, as is his 3axel. I'm not a fan. I like his moxie, but to compare him to Chan is laughable. I would even take a three fall Chan over a 'clean' Nam with two quads anyday. He is not 'soup' yet. His spins are very weak, his jump technique is scary and not fluid, and his PCS are a nightmare.

I wish him well, and you can tell he is an insanely hard worker. But he should not be getting anything better than GOE of 0 on anything, and probably negatives. Was it Browning or Buttle who choreographed his programs this year? He just looks like a little boy copying his idol, he really has no presentation.

I know I sound harsh, but am I just not seeing this 'greatness'?? He has potential, but he's nowhere close. Not like the judging will reflect it...

Sorry. I didn't think that she was doing a comparison.... :bang:

GO NAM:cheer:
OMG, we'll finally have our first Canadian Olympic champion!!! /crazy hype machine that kills Canadian men rears its head

Seriously though, @LiamForeman Of course Nam is far from the finished product. He isn't anywhere near Patrick's (or Yuzuru's) league when it comes to basic skating, his jumps aren't big or impressive, and his spins are quite slow by today's standards. However, I'll say this: I'm sick and tired for all the so-called "great skaters" crashing and slipping and falling all the time. If Nam constantly delivers while they don't... why the heck shouldn't I root for the kid?

His jumps and spins certainly don't merit anything above +1, but no way does he deserve -GOE. (While Javi is getting -2 for outright falls :disapp:)

If we're talking scores... At SA, Nam with a quad and three triple axels across two programs ended up behind Jason with no quads and only one clean triple axel. And at CoC... well, let's not even go there. Is this not harsh enough judging for you?

That's just creepy accurate.

^^^ I don't see how Nam deserves negative GOE? I'm not an expert or anything here, but I'm wondering if your dislike of his skating is causing you to exaggerate there.
