Evgeni Plushenko

My only concern is the Snow King. You said you would come here, Plushy!

In the absence of Plushyfan - seriously where have you got to Plushyfan? - here's Plushy's latest instagram: https://instagram.com/p/1nFjjEGy6m/

Which I can't seem to get Chrome to translate...but +3 GOE for the pink shoes! :cheer:

I have also changed my user title for the LOLs.
He's playing soccer? That's far too dangerous. Mishin should know that and Yana, too. He should take his comeback seriously!

They did want to ban the game in the Middle Ages in England - because of how dangerous it was (though to be fair, they did play it just a tad differently then... still... )

Anyway, he's far better off doing something safe and sane - like quads and the like. And really (looks stern) so is Brian - freestyling, motorcycling.... Really - come back, Brian!

I do wonder about the fate of Snow King as well - it would be a pity if that was abandoned altogether.

However, at least seemingly there will be more Kings on Ice in the future:

With the old gang. :)

What's going to happen with the Snow King world tour, and how is he going to manage to train & keep up with that + all the other shows he has booked? I'm still not sure what to think about this...I guess I'll just take it one day at a time.
Okay, this--of all things--woke me up from my Skate America-Boston Worlds daydreams. Very selfish of me, but it's true.

I know he loves the sport and it's hard for athletes. Can you imagine if the one thing you love most in life--and the thing you are best at--you can only do until your twenties, then it's over? But, well... this can't go on forever. There's so much he could do for figure skating without returning to competition. He could bring Snow King worldwide as promised; he could even turn it into a series, some kind of Theatre on Ice where every year they perform a different story. He could go into coaching, or he could some kind of management thing for his school on the side, even as he continues to tour as a show skater.

I'm hardly the first saying this--there's dozens and dozens of full threads about it--but I'm saying this as a fan. As someone who not only recognizes his success, but also really enjoys his skating. I feel that so many comments lamenting his return are coming from the negative camp, and that only eggs him on (some of those people are sincerely concerned, I'm sure, but it doesn't look that way if they've made disparaging comments in the past).

I don't really know what my point is here, except I need to type it before the lucid moment passes.. I admit, a part of me is excited and I'll probably slip back into that soon enough (my own coping mechanism?).

I understand, my feelings are complicated as well. I think only time will tell if this actually does happen...not that I doubt his sincere desire, but so many different factors could complicate things for him (#1 obviously being his health). Honestly, I did believe he would return once more, but up until now, it seemed he would miss the 2015-16 season & that seemed sensible. Why now, is the big question. He also gave his word to bring the Snow King to other countries, so I would expect him to follow through with that in a timely fashion, also.

I will be interested, excited and ready with  if he competes again, but I also kind of wish he could fulfill that same competitive drive with golf or something else, and not punish his body any further (although I suppose golf could be hard on the body too...but not quite in the same way. Plus it's way too boring for me to watch).

I'm here guys! I'm alive!!!! I almost died when I read the news, but I feel better.

Plushenko will return to sports and take part in the world and European championships in 2016.

http://tass.ru/en/sports/790173

I don't think it's good for the Russian Men's figure skating, but I'm sure it will be really interesting and funny.

Why? If the youngers can beat him they will have chance to beat the other top skaters.

I really don't like his decision. And it was too quickly.. But you know, the year thus the thread will be more interesting, I hope we can follow his preparing as we did in the past. But unfortunately the training camp will be held in Turkey, not in Pinzolo, Italy. Many fans were amazing, they travelled the training camp and reported the news.

He has fans in Turkey! I tried to post something the other day but it disappeared (apparently links from that site aren't allowed here ). It was an interview with a Turkish skater, Ali Demirboga, who admires Plushenko a lot & gushed about getting to skate with him once. His brother also skates & Plushy is their hero. I imagine he will go to the camp & hopefully post some stuff on Instagram.

I think we are all working through the stages of acceptance with this news. ;) But we know who we are talking about...so nothing should ever come as too much of a shock!

I know that we are all concerned about him, and his health. That's what makes one feel so scared.

But, yes, I'm excited also. There is a part of me - the uber fan part no doubt:) - that truly cannot believe, in my heart of hearts, that something he sets his mind on, is impossible to him. And that is no doubt the part that makes me excited. But apart from that, I'm his fan, so, if this is what he wants, I'll back him to the hilt. The main thing is, that I fully believe he knows what he is doing - and more importantly, what the risks are. So long as he's willing to pay the piper if need be - and much as we all dearly hope there will be no such bill to be paid - it is his decision, and I'm willing to support that.

I believe that this is indeed Serious, so, much as I'm normally a big fan of denial - I see no point in it here. As for the GP - my personal feeling is that it is too early. But we will see. Just taking it day by day - one step at a time.

I'm glad you're alive. Honestly I am excited if we can watch new competitive programs from him. But I am more worried about his health. Truly hope that he will rethink about it. But whatever he decides I hope he will be healthy.

Another new interview with Yana...a long one, and she does make a convincing argument, I must say.

http://prosport-online.ru/article-3165-rudkovskaya

I can't wait to see this flamenco program she describes as "mature, male, beautiful, sexy"... Hopefully there will be a new sexy (but not ultra-see-through) costume to go with it! And she says he has some new elements that no other skaters do. What can they be?

Does anyone think that Plushy might have got a bee in his bonnet about that silly proposal to limit athletes to 2 Olympics? It was so ridiculous I didn't even bother reading the thread about it here - never going to happen...but I wonder if hearing about it sort of lit a new fire in him.

Oooo flamenco, I'm rewatching all of Plushy's programs in order and I'm up to the Tango-Flamenco SP season, I love the footwork in that one. And yes there better be a fabulous costume to go with it! I'm depending on you, Plush!

As for that stupid proposal, I bet it did...although really it was ridiculous, hope the rest of that guy's party go :slink: because what an idiot. I bet it did though, that at those Laureus awards, nothing like inspiring sports stories and achievements.

Is there any translation - or summary - available of it anywhere? (My computer doesn't seem to realise it's Russian - and Google translate hasn't appeared to offer to translate it... sigh)

I like the idea of a Flamenco. :) Oh, a thought that has struck me intermittently - but then keep forgetting - any chance that he'll debut the new programs in the shows he will be doing during the summer? What d'you all think?

You can just copy-paste the text here: https://translate.google.ca/

I'm mixed on the idea of Flamenco. I may get chewed out for saying this in a Fan Fest, but... I never thought of Plushy as, er, "sexy." :slink: For the most part, I found his programs more tongue-in-cheek/playful (Once Upon a Time in America, Bolero, ect. I guess Tango Amore was the closest to being serious). However, I'm on board if he plays up the "intense/dramatic" aspect. I love his Tango and Flamenco SP from 2004. Too bad that StSq can't make it through COP--perhaps he can do it as part of his ChSq in the end?

As for the interview as a whole: Well, Yana does make me believe he's actually coming back. I'm... not sure if this is a good thing. :hopelessness:

I tried, but I must be doing something wrong... as nothing happened. Oh, well...

I love that 2004 SP as well - I'm hoping for something dynamic and exciting. :)

Don't you think Sandpiper? I didn't recognize that..

Many women thinks that even today, but this isn't Plushenko's peak time in this matter. He was the official sex symbol of FS at the beginning of 2000's years.
