2015 Finlandia Trophy Ladies SP and FS

Finally got to see what everyone was saying about Julia's SP dress. I actually quite like it. Yes it does look tacky, but I quite like it. I don't know, I'm probably just one who likes the weird and crazy stuff.

I agree! Bring on the weird and crazy!

And, as I wrote a few pages back, I'll be crossing everything I have for Rika to make it to GPF, just in case wishing magic works.
I just watched Rika Hongo's LP again and had the same feeling about her 2A combo as it was during the livestream- it seems solid enough. Do you think she can rotate 3A? I really wish she works on 3A.:cheer2: Am I the only one who thinks she can do it?

This is what Julia's SP dress brings to mind.

Or This I love it!! :) Paintball massacre and all. It is fun and I hope she has fun with it... this sport can do with more fun and take ourselves less seriously. Very suited to her subversive message in her juke box short, pulp pop sugar and all.

Just saw the footage of Julia in the K&C.

Yeah, she was a bit rude. It was obvious she didn't feel like being bothered by the flower girls and their seemingly endless stream of stuff. By the 3rd girl she started snatching stuff and by the 5th, she looked completely over it and annoyed. It was actually kinda funny to me :laugh2:. Maybe it would have been better for her to gesture to the girls to pile the stuff onto the sofa rather than hand it to her. By the 2nd flower girl, they would have caught on and wouldn't stand there trying to hand stuff to her.

Julia is young and has been struggling. I totally get that she was pissed off but she does need to remember that people are watching her which means she owes it to herself to remember to be gracious even though it's tough for her. She wears her feelings on her sleeves so when she's pissed or upset, she doesn't do a good job of hiding it which is fine for her...but when she's interacting with others, she just needs to remember to reel it in a bit.

This is well said

Not everyone takes the sport as casually as I do and some people put lofty expectations on people. She could be a bit more friendly at times but it's really her loss if she isn't. TBH I prefer the feisty and extremely moody Julia myself. Then again...I think the sport could use a lot more attitude and drama. :p

I think her dress was nice. And if there is one place to wear weird and crazy stuff- then it's figure skating, that is one of the reasons I love to watch it so much.;)

Lol, I haven't got the finest idea. I'm not accomplished enough a watcher to draw any conclusions about technical merit, I can only comment on music/costumes/style/etc. Rika's style works for me, even over some obviously-better skaters' style.

I think she could maybe do it, but I think she'll be focusing on other things during the next few years. I actually already noticed last year just how solid and BIG her 2A was and thought that she may squeeze in a third rotation there if she trains for it

I wonder how much Kanako sabotaged herself by declaring she wanted to retire immediately after Sochi, and then maybe just 1 more year... it might have some affect on her ranking perception within the federations. Federation probably want to build up skaters that has longer milege. I find her PCS deflation last year really puzzling relative to her team mates. She is better than the PCS she has been given.

Probably, but Kanako has expressed her plan to retire after sochi since she was 16. I have watched several interviews when she was 15-16 and talked about her career plan: go to sochi and deliver two good performances - retire and enjoy university life and study to become a coach. I am sorry that her career didn't go exactly the way she planned. Someone said that she should have just retired after sochi or now since her jumps now are pretty much gone. Yes, to some extend, she can just quit and avoid all the pressure and humiliation. But life's a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. I am grateful that she is courageous enough overturn her original plan and finally decided to stay in the game. The sport is about points and ranking, but that is not all. It is also about pride, courage, and persistence.

It is embarrassing but So Youn lp today almost brought me to tears because of how much her posture and movements reminded me of Yuna. And I thought I got over her retirement((

They were model consistency a few years ago. Julia always had horrible technique on all of her jumps. Everyone non-Russian already predicted this for her a few years ago. You just can't physically rotate your jumps when you grow

In her latest interview Yulia pointed out that she is going to USA with her coach Dudakov to work more on her programs with Zoueva to get ready to GP. Also- that she is taking a lot of advice from Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and that she is very supportive.

This is not totally true! The first 2 jumps, 3F and 3Lz were awesome. You can't pull out these jumps like that when you lack proper technique. I doubt she has any problems with the other jumps. I think that's the reason she looks upset. She knows she can do better that that. What scares me is that she seems to loose interest in figure skating. I hope I am wrong.

Yep i thought the same thing in Sochi when she won her Gold medal. Better now before she grows and loses her jumps because her technique was not going to survive a growth spurt. I thought in fact she was going to retire after Sochi and get out when the getting was good.

We are talking about a girl that is russian and lives in russia.
It takes many years of living in a different enviroment to adopt different social norms. That is not Yulia's case. Her attitude to flower was ok according to russian definition of polite, and it is understandable that, being extremely upset (she had a **** previous season, and if she has a second one, she will be most likely writen off by the fed - and mostly likely, she not only keeps herself with her skating, but also supports her family finantially) forgot about some foreign norms that have nothing to do with her, and that she barely sees.
Also, i'd like to give an example of a nice and polite japanese skater. Just yesterday, Wakaba totally ruined the medal ceremony for her teammate, appearently, and of course for fans.
My aunts, cousins...are living in Russia. My old professor also studied in Russia for years. I also visited them several times. I don't recall Russians in general to be rude. They're polite.

As a fan of Yulia, I'd say it would be nicer if she smiled a bit to the flower girls. I understand her feelings though. I was a very difficult child at that age so who am I to talk.

But as an Asian, Wakaba's attitude yesterday was unacceptable. Of course Yulia didn't look as bad, but she could have done better.

Anyway, her LP looks so much nicer than in the test skate. She's still very elegant and she feels the music more. I hope she will get onto better mood soon.

Yulia´s problems are mental(which is really serious and worrying, just look at Gracie:hopelessness:) and stamina. The program is beautiful.

The smiling / thanking part is rather tolerable for me - yeah she could smile etc but no siberians are bothered by not doing it =)
I am actually, mostly concerned about the way she was grabbing the flowers and putting them on the sofa which was a bit too much in fact. Actually, that was the same issue as with Wakaba - both were way too upset and had reasons to it... And well, we probably need to remember we talk about teenagers, not adults, that see their dreams crumble - even if its partially their own "fault".

I'm missing out on something. What did Wakaba do?

Cried on the podium at JGP Croatia after missing the final by one spot.

It looked from the pictures I saw like she was trying to smile, but she couldn't. And honestly, I get it. Most girls that age (she's only 14!) are very emotional...and no matter what's expected of her, Wakaba is first and foremost a child and simply cannot be expected never to show any emotion. And at least she tried to smile and seemed to be pretty gracious to Marin, who beat her, so I really hope this whole thing doesn't get blown up and damage her reputation.
