2015 Skate Canada Mens Free Skate

Congrats to Patrick, great comeback!

All three medalists shined tonight and for me it was a pleasure to
see elite skating at its best. :2thumbs:

I agree with the PCS gap, it's the TES I don't like (though I really don't think Hanyu has 'no choreography'). I just don't like the fact how the crazy difficulty Hanyu had didn't mean a lot as long as Chan's popped 3T still gets high GOE (not anything against the quality of that jump, more a general observation). Reminds me of other, previous, loooong discussions about quality vs. difficulty in the ladies event I never agreed with either.

That said, Chan's 3A GOE is annoying me

It was a well skated event though and the placements were correct, so I don't mean to be bitter :p
Difficulty has nothing to do with the GOE. It's about how good the jump is performed and what comes before and after. Chan's miles better on the before and after parts, specifically. Jumping during a fitting moment in music also gives GOE.

Honestly those people complaining about Chan's GOE....point out the flawed elements and how they were flawed.

It infuriates me to read comments that are so infused with bias that they cannot see objectivity. Yes, there is some subjectivity in skating, but it's not entirely subjective. Patrick's skate was sublime. And he's never impressed me before!

Patrick's TES is 76.92
Yuzuru's TES is 90.50
Daisuke TES is 79.61

Guess what? The guy with the lowest TES gets gold. This is Papa GOE! Welcome back!

Where are you getting your numbers?
Chan TES 95.17
Hanyu TES 98.5
Murakami TES 89.37

But thanks for playing! :dumb:

Typical Chan season, besides few exceptions, a bombastic start and then judges try to keep up by giving out the same tens even when he starts wiping the ice for the whole 4 minutes at the year-end events.

You can always count on Skate Chanada for breaking new ground!

Still sour are we?

Neither of the Canadian winners got components higher than ever before,

And Canada is hardly considered one of the more infamous federation
when talking about backdoor deals and National inflations, So please

Chan deserve to win no doubt, although with a bit too much GOEs but I think the placement is corrected. I think it is good that clean skate with less difficulty but has polish and refine movement ( I still don't like Chan expression) outscored difficult but shaky program. It will force others to polish their skate more. This is good for Yuzuru as it will bring out his fire.

that's incorrect... the scores you are referring to are only Base Value. people keep forgetting that Hanyu for instance got 6.6 BV for his 3Lz attempt... of course if one falls on a jump GOE will go down and that 6.6 will not increase... Patrick's jumps, spins and steps were at their best tonight.

Okay. I have a question.

Which type of blog post would you guys be most interested in seeing: a top-10-highlights-and-lows recap, a traditional recap of ladies only, a short article about each discipline, or a best/worst costumes recap?

A part of me low-key wishes a medal could also be given to Adam. But that being said, the men's event was surprisingly not a disaster today and the top skaters more than deserve their spots. It's really exciting to see skaters stepping up to the challenge, to be honest. Maybe when we get to Worlds, it won't only be a Chan vs Hanyu match-up, because there will be a ton of other competitors ready to fight for it!

It's just so refreshing to see not-fatal drama in men's skating. This is such a breath of a fresh air.

Now I want to witness a Chan and a Hanyu both bringing their A-game for the SP and the FP in the GPF. So exciting!

Newsflash = Base value does not matter at all. You can quad all jumps and fall them with -3 GOE and -1 deduction and it's worse than tripling all jumps despite being twice as much base value.
