Yep, I agree. Patrick was better overall today. Yuzuru had the goods, but I think he was too focused on the jumps and left the rest in the background, hence the PCS gap. And how often do we see Patrick land such a great 3A? I got excited there.
I'm very happy with the result, the three skated incredibly (IMO) but not perfect so that gives room for improvement, a great start.
Just trying to bring some positivity in here, they all had their strong points.

Patrick was a bit overscored, but that's a good thing, IMHO. Hanyu is amazing, but he has been falling all over the place and getting 190s since the olympic season. Patrick's amazing return to competition can push yuzuru to become better and better, a rivalry that can make the sport 100000x more exciting. Anyway, Hanyu still has room to score MUCH more points in TES, but pcs are limited to a maximum 100. If Hanyu hits everything, no one will stop him. But can he do it?

I am just ecstatic this 'rivalry' is back once again- plus with Javier being the new WC, I'm sure he'll go head-to-head with Chan+Hanyu now as well
Very exciting season! I can't wait to see them all skate at their very best.

You already stated your opinion that you think Hanyu shouldn't even skate anymore so of course.
LOL, Hanyu still wants to skate because he knows he did not skate well in winning his OGM, and obviously he's still young yet. Time will tell if he can actually improve as an all-around skater, especially since he's already so over-scored on PCS. The only incentive is his own motivation, since those around him and his fans and judges all think he's so great in all aspects.

I agree with the PCS gap, it's the TES I don't like (though I really don't think Hanyu has 'no choreography'). I just don't like the fact how the crazy difficulty Hanyu had didn't mean a lot as long as Chan's popped 3T still gets high GOE (not anything against the quality of that jump, more a general observation). Reminds me of other, previous, loooong discussions about quality vs. difficulty in the ladies event I never agreed with either.
That said, Chan's 3A GOE is annoying me
It was a well skated event though and the placements were correct, so I don't mean to be bitter

Nam doesn't have the balletic qualities to pull off that music. That doesn't mean he has weak presentation skills. In the last section of his skate at around 3:40 he is clearly giving it his all, emoting out the wazoo, and actually HOLDING his positions (that ina bauer). Everything is done forcefully on the right beat of music. He couldn't have done more with the body and the skills he has right now.

Well it's always nice to see good skating. Whereas some people seem to enjoy telling skaters to GTFO of a sport because they don't like them
