2016 World Championships Ladies Free Skate

yes that is very rude
It was. Trust if it was the reverse and Ashley did that to Evgenia or Anna, Americans wouldn't hear the end of it. Pro Russian forum members on here already called the crowd "anti-Russian" tonight because they didn't stand up fast enough in their standing-o to Evgenia. :palmf:

For all of you who are interested, someone made heat maps of all the skaters tonight on his twitter! You can see them here

Gracie has got fantastic ice coverage compared to some of the other ladies
Thanks for posting, it's interesting. But I'd say that although Gracie seems to skate into all 4 corners most of her skating takes place on the right half of the rink. Annas and Evgenias look better imho.

She must have a genius strategy for a LP without a 3-3, while every other skater in the final group except Graice had two 3-3s
Miyahara's technical content is her strong suit, if I'm not mistaken her base value's higher than everyone's except Mao's with 3A.

Well looking at the scoresheets I can officially say Evgenia's WR is bogus because she didn't get that edge call on the 3Lz, still a very solid skate though

Give the girl a break! She backloaded (which was not available in Yuna's WR days), tanoed almost everything and had cuteness to the factor of 10!! Kudos to her! Why should the WR not be broken by that skate if I may ask?

I think the most underscored performance was Rika. What does this girl have to do to get recognition...I hope though, that the Japanese fed will think hard about lobbying for Satoko as their number one, so much. I think in the long run she will have problems being competitive.

For Lena, I am very impressed. At the beginning of this season I believed she would disappear due to puberty ala Julia Lipnitskaia. She fought through it. She is a success. I believe she will get better jumps when she gets used to her body more. She seemed like a gangly teen, I hope to see more of a lady next season.

It'll be brutal in Russia, that's for sure. To think who they have sitting at home right now, like the former WC.... its going to be tough. But fun for us!

Satoko is not my favourite — I find her entirely forgettable. But Elena's posture issues drive me batty — do the judges even notice?

THIS. Satoko is far from my favorite, but she has some very good basics and knows how to perform that gorgeous program. All I can remember from Elena is flailing her arms to "Jack...! Jack...!" voice-overs.

Watched Ashley practice this morning - not a full run through, just partial segments - surprisingly teared up... Maybe now I know why...

I definitely think Anna should have been 2nd in the LP. But I feel like Ashley got low-balled in PCS in the SP. So it kind of all comes out in the wash. Anna and Ashley are both great and they complete the dream podium with Zhenya on top!!

I feel like I can die now. This is the moment I've been waiting for and so much could have gone wrong. After the SP, I was worried. What if Gracie did a clean short and long? What if Zhenya finally has a mental break and it is at the Worlds?? Luckily none of this came to fruition. Gracie is still a lovely head case. Zhenya still has those nerves of steel. After a rough-ish SP she gave her best performance of the season when it counted the most. Her performance tonight was my EVERYTHING. Well deserved FS WR. I can't wait to see what they come up with next season.

QUEEN ZHENYA IS EVERYTHING!

Wasn't that "fix" so predictable? I do admire your crystal ball. Gracie gold the gold medal over Zhenya just as you expected. :rolleye:

Miyahara's technical content is her strong suit, if I'm not mistaken her base value's higher than everyone's except Mao's with 3A.

Yeah, but her jumps are an effing disgrace. It's so bad that her PCS is lowered to make up for her overinflated technical marks.

You know, I was actually kind of upset that people weren't standing for Anna. Because by the end of it, not everyone was. I'm going to give Anna the benefit of the doubt that she hugged Evgenia and Ashley because of time worries or excitement or something. I'm not going to give the benefit of the doubt to this crowd; that was out of spite and anger towards Anna that all 3 Russians had gone clean and that Gracie and Ashley were in trouble.

I wish they would have just left PCS as a 6.0 "rank the skaters" type of score and then have TES as a numerical measure of the elements. Oh well....this way is fun too because no matter what happens the judges always get something wrong.

I'd have rather seen Anna get silver but Ashley delivered. I'm honestly quite meh about it. The podium has the right folks on it. All three deserve gold but Zhenya really seperated herself from everyone.

I honestly thought when Gracie got all stinky feet out there that Satoko would sneak in. Ashley says no and Gracie should not be ahead of Satoko IMO. Oh well.

I think with a points system they need to have something that can be relative to the points that come from the technical score.

I think one of the main issues is they should abolish anonymous judging; experts should have no problem supporting the scores they put out in public. The scores given out should be relative; Mao's SS and TR scores should be put against Evgenia's SS and TR. Mao clearly has superior skills, therefore she should receive higher scores relative to Evgenia etc.

Evgenia showed she wanted it the most tonight. The determination on her face during the skate said it all.

Gracie's score was pretty higher to me. She got 137 at Skate America and I actually thought Firebird was must better, she had more expression and determination. Here she just looked stoic. Plus at Skate America she only doubled a salchow, here she had a fall and doubled a lutz.

She should be getting 0 GOE across the board. It is quite the joke.

I sort of agree and her rotations aren't good, but at least she repeats her lutz and flip and doesn't edge them I believe. This is an accomplishment these days.

Congratulations to all the medalists (especially to Ashely and Anna) and although I haven't seen the video yet, admiring indeed for Mao to have such a wonderful comeback!

Mao's great depth of emotion and expression, pouring her soul out for the whole world to see, her supreme skating skills. Simply heavenly! Out this world transcendence! Like an angel descended from the Heavens. I don't have words. I am struck dumb! The true spirit and essence of figure skating. Her sharp edges carved through every frame cutting a great wake that rolled into a massive wave of emotion. Thank you Mao from the bottom of my heart for coming back! That huge standing ovation speaks louder than any deflated score.

Please, Gracie got that PCS because she flawed her free. Everyone here knows that if she had gone clean, she would've broken the WR. From Evgenia. Who had set it 10 minutes before that! Why do you think there were people who kept saying "lets wait till Gracie."?

Nah, it was totally over after Evgenia skated. It didn't matter what Gracie did.

Yup, I have actually pointed this out before and I do believe that being able to do 2A-3s instead of 3-3s in FS is stupid but it's alright with the current rules so what can you do?
