Patrick Chan

That's a pity! Could you see him at Nationals, or maybe he'll do a senior B in North America?

Nationals was Plan A.... then Senior B came plan B ;) but I doubt he will come to the autumn classic since it's the same weekend as Japan Open... I'd be surprised if they didn't invite him again...
Skate Canada was NEVER the plan but with that line up, I considered it seriously for a big two hours... got a place to stay right there, had figured out I could fly for free...and was just about to think about buying the weekend pass when I looked at my calendar LOL... oh well.. it was a very exciting 2 hours :)

Bummer, 4everchan, there isn't any way for you to move your commitment? I hope you get to see him this year, anyway!

So wonderful to read the comments from other fans here. By the way, if you like the music Eric composed for Patrick, please let him know on Twitter because he does read (and like) them!

Happy Canada Day! I made this graphic that blends two photos I use on my blog:

PJ posted this video interview where Patrick says his new music is both classical and contemporary. Yay, I had said in PJ's poll that he would have both styles.

classical+contemporary = crossover ;)

I've just read on Javier Fernandez' thread that Jeremy Abbott and Adam Rippon will be representing North America at Japan Open (p. 138, posts 2062 and 2068). It's a pity Patrick won't go there, as it's good money, and I'm sure lots of fs fans in Japan will miss him, but on the upside he might decide to do a Senior B in North America instead. I wonder if, perhaps, he got an invitation to JO as before, but made a decision in favor of a Senior B in order to test both his programs before SC, or maybe he wants to go to a more serious competition before GP to steel his nerves?

That's great news! Since Eric is definitely contemporary, I assume this means the SP will be to classical music, and we'll see another masterpiece to timeless music from Patrick! I think that's a winning combination. The LP will be something new (but beautiful!), and the SP will demonstrate once more that he can take something lots of people have skated to before and make it a revelation. So looking forward to the premiere of both in the fall!

Patrick put his hand to his heart when he started talking about the "Journey" with his friend Eric. This program already looks wonderful from the snippets. From the way Patrick expresses it with his words, it seems very special for him and Eric, and I expect the loving sentiments will be even better expressed through his skating. Indeed a very special collaboration.

Wenjing Sui has stated how much she loves the new and very special long program Lori has choreographed for her and Cong, to tell their story as best friends, supporting each other, with shared ambitions and careers. I look forward to both Patrick's and Sui/Han's new LPs to see how they each tell the story of friendship and a shared journey.

i hope that's correct !!! Canada's senior b is 1 hour of (local) train away from my place so that would be great...i'd just go there, come home, go there, come home ;) all weekend... and yes, i think he needs to skate both programs.

The SP will be interesting. It could be classical, but it may be a tango or some other type of dance, since Pasquale Camerlengo said Patrick skates like a dancer. Apparently the search for new music has been a frustrating experience for Patrick. I hope he finds another inspiring piece for the SP!

Well said, VB! I comment more about this on my blog, but I think this will be the program to touch viewers' hearts. With Patrick being able to express through his program how much their friendship means to him, I expect that there will be no more accusations of him leaving anyone "cold". ;)

thank you... i am obsessed with the few steps to the piano notes right after the loop jump...

When I watch Patrick skate, I am just so moved. I have watched figure skating since 1988. Not always closely... but after loving Brian, Kurt, being impressed by Elvis though he wasn't quite my type of skater, wishing Emmanuel to do as well as he could have done for nearly a decade.. (sigh... ) falling deeply in love with Jeffrey's skating.... I thought that I had been privileged to be Canadian, and see all these wonderful world Champions (except Emmanuel who had tough times with nerves and with his competitors, you had to deliver) dominate the sport and bringing it forward (Kurt, first quad at WC, Elvis first quad combo, Kevin first 2 quads short... Patrick :world record... etc) but... even with such history, so many emotions, so many years, nearly 30 watching this sport, I am still surprised, moved and almost shocked by Patrick's skating. He is unique. Nobody else brings so much sensitivity and sensibility on the ice. I am so excited about this program. I am out of words. I have two things left on my to do list before I die lol (okay i have many years ahead of me but Patrick will not skate competitively forever). One is to see Patrick skate live .... and the other is to see Northern lights... if life were kind enough to me, can you imagine how thrilled i'd be to go to Finland for WC ;) and get to do both ? haha ... :)

Happy Canada day ;)

I watched the clip posted by Skate Canada and your comment brought me back to something I picked up on initially. The music as he starts skating backwards from after the spread eagle sounds so familiar. Like that arrangement of notes is in another piece of music I've heard but can't place my finger on. I wish there was an app that identifies things like this!

Very happy to hear about the FS music and choreo. Gotta thank PJ and everyone for sharing that info with us. Now I want to know about the SP. His Wikipedia page looks strange with just the FS info. :)

Also, it looks like we are saved and Patrick will be competing at a real Senior B. I'm wondering if he'll go to Autumn Classic or Finlandia. I can't seem him going to another except maybe the US International Classic. I think it's going to be either about proximity, or experiencing Finland ahead of 2017 Worlds. Meagan and Eric are also going to be at Finlandia so Eric getting to watch Patrick debut that FS would be a treat.

nooooo stay in canada :) no need for finlandia ;)

the music snippets aren't enough to really say how it sounds like... but it's close to some Einaudi or even Pärt... but don't quote me on this yet... :) what we know is what we know... Eric wrote it :)

I hope for your sake he goes to Autumn Classic. Though be sure to get there early as tickets are first come first serve. And if Yuzuru goes, you know they will be camping outside the arena like they did in Barrie. ;)

Oh yes, I am quite sure Eric wrote this piece and it's beautiful. Just reminded me of another piece of music. I'm trying to play it in my head, but I keep losing grasp of the melody. If I remember, I'll post here and you can do the analysis 4everchan. :)

ETA: If you guys are free on September 1st to come to Toronto then you can all meet Patrick if you make a donation to Skate Canada. See the link here. I was going to share the link somewhere appropriate, but we don't have a thread for Canadian skaters, do we?

I can't wait to read your analysis of the music, 4everchan! If you have time, please do be a guest blogger on my fan site. Maybe this will a palatable crossover piece for you? :)

Thank you, Mango! I will add this to my Patrick Events page. Will you be attending?

Yes! Hopefully I can go. :)

Awesome. Please let us know how that goes for you.

All, right now I'm working on an interview article with Happylife, which I hope to post soon. As you know, she met Patrick a few times at various events and had some good experiences to share. I'll let you know when it's out. Stay tuned!

My interview with Happylife has been published! You can read it here:

A lot of good information, and Patrick's nickname is so cute.

Please let me know what you think. A big thank you to Happylife for sharing! :agree:

Vivley, thank you so much for your WONDERFUL work on pcskatingfan.com. I am in awe of your time devotion and creative efforts. This is truly a labor of love for you and it shows!

Yes, Patrick "young son" is incredible endearing and for those who don't know, it's quite common for Chinese Moms to refer to their sons in that manner.

I want to mention one thing that is more apparent to me as I watched Patrick live at this year's SOI. It seems like the ice surface is just too small for Patrick's powerful skating. Yes, watching Patrick live is absolutely wonderful and every time I see him I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming but I really feel that Patrick just cannot freely let go because he would fly into the audience. I don't feel shortchanged because his skating skills is worth the ticket price but I would pay any amount to see Patrick skate on BIG ice and see his unmatched power.

I also noticed big improvement in Patrick's engagement with the audience this year. I was sitting in row eight in the end zone and I could clearly see him making eye contact with people. He certainly didn't leave anybody feeling "cold" that night! ;)
