Your opinion on Skate Canada

There were enough of my faves here (and enough great performances) that it made the trip to Mississauga worthwhile.

That said, I've never attended such a partisan international event before in my life. Never thought I'd be so excited to get back to the land of the free and home of the brave later tonight. :scard7:

Now onto the gala...

All this talk about Yuzu possibly doing SA made me make a just-in-case reservation at a Lake Placid resort.

And that's on top of the just-in-case reservation I already made at a Regina hotel for SC.

Now I'm worried that he might do France instead! :laugh2:

The skating, well to each their own. I know I found plenty to enjoy, even when it wasn't perfect.

The judging... :laugh2: :drama:   :rofl2: :slink: That sort of sums up what I feel like about it.

Seriously, I'm glad we're done with the North American GPs, they not only upheld their reputations as worst scored (in their own favor of course), they actually managed to surpass it, and not by a mile, but by a full planet-wide distance. So glad it's over.

One thing to keep in mind is SA next year will actually be the final event. SC will still be the second event. So it is possible he could to Trophee de France and SA depending on when France is.

Ladies::scratch2:, but :clapper: for Osmond

Pairs::palmf:, it was an uninspiring event, and I really hope Yuko is okay.

Men: Kevin, Misha and Brezina:thumbsup:.... everybody else:slink:

Dance:  I don't know if it has to do with Tessa and Scott being back or if it's just a coincidence, but this is the FIRST ice dance competition I truly enjoyed since worlds in Saitama. I loved a lot of programs, both SDs and FDs, the performances where pretty good for the end of October, the results where not too predictable and the judging was fair enough.

If SA is the final event next year, does it mean NHK will be the first event of the GPs, i.e the dates of NHK and SA are switched? If the other four events remain in the same order, Hanyu will most likely do NHK and TDF.

Oh there's plenty of opportunity for inflation this season. After all, there's still Rostelecom Cup!

Ladies: Kaetlyn Osmond proves she back, in both SP & LP. Sends a message to others that consistency = podium finishes

Dance: All and all, a well skated and competitive event. Piper and Paul da bomb!

Mens & Pairs: Somewhat predictable given the time of year and the added difficulties of the programs. Looking forward to March '17

Crowds: Awesome and supportive of all skaters, I thought. Supporters from the USA and Japan were wonderful to see. And how about the number of people and a camera at practices. I heard there were more people in the line ups to the bathrooms at SC, then attended SA ;). A smaller venue does have a certain charm

Fav Fan: The lady next to the kiss n' cry in the red sweater, with a cane in one hand and a waiving fist pump in the other. Gotta love skating fans, EH!

Don't forget TB in France. Expect stratospheric results for P/G no matter how derivative their FD is or how they perform it. 10s a plenty!!! Maximum GOEs!!!!

Next week in CoR it's Chock/Bates with 13 points (188.24) vs. Bobrova/Soloviev with 11 points (174.77), and newshooter Weaver / Poje who didn't do any prep events this fall. Wonder if the Russian Fed will bring in an extra-special tech team to ensure that gold medal for Bob/Sol, who needs it to make the GPF. Lord knows they've done that to C/B and W/P in the past!

That would save me a lot of money because no way am I going to France for a GP competition, even one with the amazing Hanyu.

Going to SA concerns me because of the time of year (weather concerns, holiday travelers) and the lack of a major airport in Lake Placid. It would be much easier for me to fly to Regina for SC but . . . Regina? ;)

If NHK is the 1st GP and SC is the 2nd GP, it's unlikely that he would do SC. Also, I don't think he chose SC in the last two years. My guess is Hanyu had no other choice but to do SC because Fernandez refused to do SC for two years in a row and was rejected by SA two years in a row. If SC is so close, why is Fernandez never willingly choose to do SC when he has the first choice? He would rather do back-to-back GP then to compete at SC that requires much less traveling. (The ice dance world champ would also rather fly all the way to Japan than to compete at SC even though they train in Canada. It seems that non-Canadian top skaters want to avoid SC if they have a choice. My guess is that Skate Canada has a reputation for bad judging, so many top skaters, (except ladies since Canadian ladies are weak) want to avoid competing at SC if they have a choice.) Hanyu has no choice but to do SC.

I think that one main reason skaters get certain GPs more often than others because of the relationship between the feds. JSF seems to have good relationship with USFS and French Fed. They always send their most promising juniors to either SA or French fed when they first turn senior, e.g. Uno, Higuchi, Yamamoto.

ETA: SA is unlikely because that's the last GP next season. SC is unlikely if it's right after NHK. COC is also unlikely due to the collision happened in China. The most likely non-NHK GP Hanyu will do next season is either TDF or COR.

Question: what is with Kaetlyn's costume in the FS? When she came out I thought she'd changed her FS to Carmen. Her flowered springtime costume is all wrong for La Boheme (most of the opera takes place in the winter), and doesn't suit the character of Mimi, whose aria is the first music she skates to. It might have been OK for the character of Musetta (the second aria) with perhaps a fur jacket thrown over it, but the flower in the hair is wrong for both characters. The final music cut is Mimi's death aria when she dies of consumption (TB) in the dead of winter, and the flowered dress there just looks so WRONG.

I just wish that when skaters use opera music they would buy a copy of the libretto and do some research, or at the very least look the opera up on WIKIPEDIA. I felt the same way two years ago when Mirai took a (bad) stab at Madame Butterfly (pun intended).

I'm sure some will kill me for this but Medvedeva leaves me cold. She's certainly an amazing jumper but looks like a little girl, all the hand over the head is distracting and even annoying at times. Plus, to me she over emotes and is hugely over scored for PCS.

Men: Misha was bomb
Dance: Beautiful Ladies, charming men and a German guy that admired you! :luv17:
Pairs: Luba smile!
Ladies: Alaines two million dollars look and a hug for Mirai & Yuka. :console:

Crowd: A smaller venue, than at Chicago, but I felt the crowd was more into it, but very worried when Scott and Tessa lost the FD to Madi & Evan. Nonetheless, very fair and supportive to all skaters and the flower girls were :points:

GP 2016-2017, I've seen so far, if Katelyn stays healthy, execute all her jumps, she will be the next figure queen. She has huge jumps, distance and elevation.. fast spins and step sequence, than any athletes....plus she is a mature/ quality skater.

Medvedeva has/ appears to be an amazing jump technic w/ tano, but Look closely/ with slow motion, Medvedeva 3+3, 3 toe is underrated & rec'd GOE. Med. spins/ step sequence are not as good as Katelyn. Med. is a junior level of skater ..her skating skills are not as mature as Katelyn.

I am happy to see a new challenger for the figure queen position. I am looking forward to see next GP results.
