Patrick Chan

I think you're so right, 4everchan. Of course then is also the jet lag. Going westward is always very hard, especially for the maximum distance. (Thinking back, I might have typed mistakenly that going Eastward was harder than Westward. The map was right in my head but the words for directions came out wrong, I think.)

I'm pretty certain Patrick will go the GPF. But you know I'm always most accepting of all outcomes. :)

i think someone reached his 9000th post last night.. i didn't notice with how sleepy i was....

congrats VB-aka SF aka guru :hb:

jet lag is not a big deal for some... and a big deal for others... the 2 worst experiences for me : montreal-vienna... arrived in vienna, I slept 16 hours.

and vancouver-montreal on the red eye fight... DO NOT ATTEMPT .... it is awful... you leave vancouver at around midnight and of course, you cannot sleep on the plane and then boom it's 7am in montreal... awful awful awful... i fell asleep while walking on st-laurent street.. lol

all other times : especially going west, I never felt it... ever. whether it was from europe or not...

You complain about flying from Montreal to Vienna or Vancouver? You have never flown across the Pacific Ocean? Or worse, via Anchorage, the most hazardous and sickness inducing airport in the world and laid over for two hours after midnight in the airport? Air travel to the Far East used to take almost a whole day with refueling. Talk about jet lag! Anyway, it's very tough crossing the international date line westward and a little easier eastward.

Best cure for jet lag: sun light and exercise. I believe Patrick get them in Beijing. OK maybe not so much sun light.

hehe... i was just mentioning the ones that gave me troubles.... i have done vancouver europe many times including going over greenland from vancouver.. you can imagine the long long road there... arrived at destination, i was dead but agreed to go on a hike hahaha on a glacier ;) it was fabulous ;)

i have some projects for the next couple of years that make me get a bit further than vancouver-eastern europe.... maybe i haven't just been far enough ;)

VB :

as much as people don't mention it much, the fatigue could be a result of mental strain more than physical.... I see quite well the possibility here with 3 things

1) the split with Kathy and the fact that instead of following his path to Vancouver, plans had to change
2) moving to a new place, getting used to new coaches... eventhough it is going well, having a new mentor is always tiring... so many ideas, so many things, new information coming through his head
3) the mental fatigue about including a new element

I wish patrick to remain in the top 3-4 at COC which should be enough for him to qualify for GPF... but if he doesn't qualify, I won't cry over it long... he probably needs some rest...

You pretty much said what I was thinking. I think the mental fatigue factor is huge. If he goes to GPF, great. If he doesn't, it will be good for him to get a break.

Here's more of what he said after the SP:

https://www.ifsmagazine.com/backstage-in-beijing/

“The opening of the program I was pretty happy with it, and I think I just lost a bit my focus into the triple Lutz. In the short program those little mistakes become very big mistakes. You do lose a lot of points. I call myself lucky today. I was able to stay in the top three, which is a good spot to be in for the free. Tomorrow is a new day, new challenges, new goals, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

Also, the bad smog in Beijing could be a factor:

Apparently Michal Brezina couldn't see straight, and the Shibs had to wear masks...

Why Patrick is still in his Chopin's costume?
He has no money for new? Of what? I don't understand ~____~
Let's put money for new suit x)))

Today was his third highest FS score ever:clap:

This will be excellent momentum for the GPF but I hope to finally see a clean SP from him

patrick won this, not because he has great PCS... but because he matched boy boy jin jin's TES... 104 and dust... it was truly an impressive skate, so worth staying up for.... omg... if you liked SC, this one is going to push the emotion even further.

and yes!!! those axels... OMG

OH. HOLY. JUPITER.
I HAVE NO WORDS.

BUT I THINK THAT TODAY I SAW IMMENSE COSMOS.
No.
Holy Universe in one unique person.

Thank you, Patrick

Oh my Patrick was fabulous! There is a reason he is 3 time World Champion! Congrats!

so beautiful so beautiful so beautiful

don't know if it has anything to do with today i watched on a big screen tv

kinda out of words to describe the feeling watching him today

it's like i have already forgetten the music is there, the jumping pass is not important, he is the one and only now
can skating like this

if he can do FS cleanly like this, no one is allowed to have pcs higher than his. not yuzuru, not javier. No.

gutted if he can't get 4s eventually.

I have not seen him yet, I was watching the live competition but I was too nervous to enjoy the skating and i decided not to see Patrick.
I have only seen the scores, they are great even with one fall (I imagine in the 4S)
I am so happy for him

WOW WOW WOW! What a fabulous skate and a fabulous win by Patrick! I thought Boyang had won with all his jumps and TES over 100 and then Patrick came and blew me away with his sublime wonderful breathtaking performance. He even beat Boyang on TES by virtue of the quality of his jumps and other elements. Except for the 4S fall, every move and every moment was incredibly beautiful.

So he didn't land the 4S, but he landed every other jump, including the 4T in the second half, the 3As, and the last jumps without fatigue or hesitation. It leaves room to improve this season.

Patrick rose skating after Boyang while Daniel crumbled skating after Patrick. It shows what a champion is made of.

Congratulations, Patrick! You are awesome and inspirational.
