Ryan Bradley on Kaetlyn Osmond

The reason Kaetlyn is so comfortable on the ice is due to the fact that she trains on a rink in the West Edmonton Mall. A public rink that is open to the public. Thousands of shoppers going by daily watching her skate.....this is what makes her comfortable and so relaxed on the ice. Also this is what makes Kaetly who she is, on and off the ice.....A down to earth girl with no pretences and put ons.

Kaetlyn has now successfully completed all her existing jumps in her LP in competitions! Re 3/2/2, total best score for the element achieved was 9.15 (8.25 BV + .90 GOE), I think you best re-watch Skate Canada, chuckm, as once again your statement is not accurate.

Ah, but at SC, she had worse errors: 3f+3t, 2a-to+2t, 3z!, 3lo< fall , 3f, 3s+2t+2lo, 2a

So are most skaters at 17-18. But have you looked at what she has done since her return!!!

You know which skater I wrote off as a pretty skater with terrible technique and low jumps. Ashley Wagner. I saw her at Nationals in 2011. I think my exact words were. She's like Alissa light. She was very flexible, tiny, and she had big beautiful eyes. However, her skating and her programs, took me nowhere. The fact that she rose to the level of World Silver Medalist is quite a shock. She was completely off my radar until her Pollack SP. I think it was choreographed by Phillip Mills. Brilliant.

Kaetlyn, on the other hand, Had the wow factor the first time that I saw her. I Immediately went searching for everything I could find out about this great new Canadian skater and her coach, Ravi Walia, and choreographer, Lance Vipond. I was in loooooooove with Jennifer Robinson and even though she wasn't the strongest skater from a technical standpoint, the girl could sell sand in the middle of the Sahara Desert. Kaetlyn was like a good jumping Jennifer. I hope that made sense.

Exactly! My all time Fav Maria Butyrskaya, broke my heart MANY times between 1992 and the ending of her career. This program is the very first time I ever saw her and I've been in love ever since. She had long RED hair and if you didn't know who she was, some people would never guess that she was the same skater that won Worlds in 1999. I remember how much I loved the color of her boots, as they matched her costume. When she showed up in the LP with Pink Disco Skates I fell immediately in love and remain in love to this day. :love:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVl6TjgSMxA

Okay chuckm, let's dance around your mis-steps by data dumping. Not very well played, btw.

It takes 2 programs doesn't it? Forget that 74 something in the SP, we need not speak of this. Kaetlyn recorded at SC 2016, the highest total score of any Canadian women ever, and at that time the second highest total score of the skating season. A 206 and change in October. Remember how you use to comment that she would never crack the 200 club? Ahhh memories...

Your smoke screens may work for some but they do get a wee bit tiresome, don't you think?

I'm reposting my first comment from early in this thread, because somehow I got accused of not "allowing" support for Osmond. Whatever ...

While watching the GPF ladies with a friend who is a longtime skating fan but not uber-technical, she said: "Osmond really is the complete package, isn't she?"

That, perhaps, sums up what Ryan was getting at: Osmond might not be the absolute best at any one aspect, but when you put it all together (big jumps landed with flow, edges, spin positions, speed, musicality, expression) she really does excel in a way that no one else on the current scene does.

Ashley was 6th at 2011 Nationals. She came into her own the next year, 2012, when she finished 3rd at Nationals. Later that year she made the GPF for the first time and won the silver medal. She made the GPF again in 2013 and 2014 and won bronze. In 2015 she once again made the GPF but finished 4th, but then won 2016 World silver. She'd been 4th at Worlds 2012, 5th at Worlds 2013, 7th at 2014 Olympics and Worlds, and 5th at 2015 Worlds. Given her consistent record of success year after year, I wouldn't say her World medal was shocking at all.

For that matter, the wow factor doesn't alway translate into great success. I remember seeing Zijun Li at 2013 Worlds, when she placed 7th just behind Gracie Gold and just ahead of Kaetlyn Osmond. Zijun landed 7 triples and had the wow factor in spades. Unfortunately, the puberty bug got hold of Zijun and she hasn't been the same skater since.

Dude, you need to stop. You are literally powered by your hatred for Canadians on this forum to chase around people and continuously tell them why they suck. You already mentioned you don't prefer her. Give it a rest. It must be very tiring to always be so hateful than to express happiness for skaters.

Canadian records are meaningless at the International level.

Overscoring has become rampant these days. And it is most rampant at two particular Grand Prix events: Cup of Russia and Skate Canada, and of course for the skaters from those two countries.

So if all the points are made up and nothin' matters, why does it bother you sooo much, when Canadians do well? Perhaps you have noticed how often you deny the past and desecrate the present, on this Forum?

how do you explain then, that Kaetlyn's "Canadian record for the SP" was scored at GPF?

I do not care for records as judges vary... circumstances vary etc.... But let's be fair to Kaetlyn. All Grand prix season, she's had great SPs, which allowed her to score big points and be in the contenders for medals. She got two silvers, considering her opposition, well that's pretty awesome.

People have criticized her LP. Well, when you have had hardware in your body, it takes years to be 100% back. I got some removed in mine after a freak accident, I am metal free for about 8 months now... I still am not 100%... That Kaetlyn had a major fracture which needed surgery and hardware, and that she is an elite skater competing for top prizes is CRAZY. Yes, she will need more belief, stamina and confidence in her LP, but she will get there as time goes by.. Here's something interesting :

Kaetlyn, throughout the season has landed every single one of her jumping passes in the LP. Some events, she did the combos better (she always had the first 3f-3t in GPs) and in other events like in GPF, after a fabulous initial combo, she did double the 2t and then the last combo was truly showing fatigue.... HOWEVER, she landed the lutz and loop which have been tougher jumps for her.

So, in light of that, I see something positive. Skaters have to focus on things to improve quickly in such quick turn around kind of events. 3 weeks ago only was Kaetlyn in China.... and she probably worked really hard on getting the loop and lutz in the LP... well she did... sure... other elements which she had mastered didn't work out... but eh, that is still a positive improvement because now she knows she can land everything in her program.

Regarding the OP and the comments from other commentators : well... commentators often pick a high potential skater who hasn't yet had the results because it makes it interesting... some others, I am sure, could have picked Maria and talk about her soft and refined yet powerful skating...

the difference here, as others have mentioned is that for once, the "newcomer" it girl is not Russian, Japanese nor American.... When an outsider makes a huge move, she always gets picked on.... Well world, watch out because Canada is sending you 2 very promising girls at worlds.... not 1 ... 2....

Kudos Kaetlyn !

Chuckm, If you read my post, you'd see that I was speaking of first impressions. I knew who Ashley was when I first saw her in 2011. However, The skaters on my radar at that time were, Alissa Czinsy, Mirai, and Agnes Zawadski who I had seen at Skate Canada in 2010. Again, I am not bashing anyone, I'm trying to give some love to one of my favorite skaters and I want Kaetlyn to know that she has loyal fans who love to see her skate no matter what happens on the ice.

I remember Ashley from this program. BTW, Isn't that Johnny Weir's old coach talking to her before she performs? I had no idea they had ever worked together. She coached Armin for a while as well.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAPG12Ne-yg

I think this comment is very accurate. I've been to that rink and it's very public. If you can skate there, you can skate anywhere. Canadians have you been on that giant Roller Coaster in the corner of that mall??? That thing goes all the way from the bottom floor to ceiling of the mall. It's red and goes upside more than once. That thing was so freaking cool.......We all screamed like little girls. :eeking:

Holy Cow...This is the ride I'm talking about. It's in the same mall where Kaetlyn practices. It's at "GalaxyLand in the West Edmonton Mall, It's called the Mindbender. I don't know if it's still there but, there was also a big "Water Park" in this Mall. It was awesome.
