2017 Europeans Ladies FS

Starting with the 2016-17 season, the rules changed. The tech handbook now says "only the jumps not according to the requirements will receive no value, but the rest of the jumps of the combination/sequence will be counted" fully.

actually, she should have been received full credit for 2A.
so mistake from judges

It's so strange. The REP deduction is for not adding a combo on a second jumps, or not doing a combo in the Short. It's like they made up a rule just for this.

Not the first time and not the last time when they apply rules in wrong way or ignore them. I remember Florent Amodio not getting any deduction for zayaked lutz and no deduction for lyrics in his programme (that was when it was still forbidden). You know there's no program that automatically identify technical content and etc. yet, it's all identified by people.

I thought so.

She's receiving the appropriate deduction for it, so I don't really see the problem.

It's also *not* just another 3T, it's a 2A-3T combo at 3:30 in her FS after two other 3-3 combos. It's unprecedented.

I disagree that it's not pushing the sport further because perhaps in the future the ISU will allow four combos instead of three. Or eight triples instead of seven. Who knows?

Isn't ISU planing to do excatly opposite? Limit jumping passes to one less? It will actually benefit Ladies who are not doing 7 triples in their programs as of now.

Great competition. What do we learn?
1. Judges at Russian Nationals should judge the skaters on their actual performances. Now it's obvious that Radionova would have been the better pick.
2. Carolina is getting reliable in her old days. :hap57: And I can't criticise a thing about this program/performance.
3. Anna is fierce, agressive and a smart cookie. What was she, 4th at Nationals? What a joke.
4. Evgenia needs a fun program, this drama isn't for her. And she should add this 3Lo in combination, I can do without all those 3T's and 2T's. I get it - she can do a 3T. She can do better if she really wants to show off. Honestly, I'm not impressed by the performance from her. She deserved to win of course, there's no doubt, but she could be more. More! I need more from Evgenia! Another 3T just doesn't do it for me.
5. Laurine's costume change doesn't get old.
6. Loved Loena. I think she's here to stay.

She was coming out of injury and didn't skate as good as here, and Sotskova didn't fall twice. Anna's 4th place at Nationals wasn't exactly a travesty.

I disagree about Evgenia and drama. She does drama quite well. And IMO she pulls this one off, it's just that people can't look past their predjudice against the theme and music.

Completely agree about Laurine, though.

Im just happy Pogo is really fighting because you know they are ready to drop her once she fcks up. That 5 point PCS gap from Caro and Med is very telling.

Who are they who are ready to drop her? She's been to the last 3-4 championships (doing great!) in spite of not being on top at Russian nationals.

All the ardent defenders of Evgenia's moving and respectful and totally classy terrorism program want to chime in here about smiling while she performed it?

Imagine having lost a loved one to terrorism, and hearing about this gorgeous, several-times-gold-medal-winning figure skating performance that offers a touching tribute to those who have also lost loved ones to terrorism...and then you see the skater smiling during it. :disapp:

She did get credit for the 2A, only the 3T was invalidated. The + REP was because it was the 4th combo.

Why the need to not call Caro's UR? Anna could have lost the silver, look at the difference between them. Could have gone the other way. It's hardly like Zhenya's the only one benefiting. Caro's PCS was overscored in the SP too while Anna was low balled as usual. How about that?

It's always great to see Caro the queen and lets not talk about her candies.

And she gets her candies all right, I still remember her stealing Pogorilaya's deserved bronze at Worlds in 2014 after her disaster of a free skate. Lightning could have just easily struck twice today seeing how close they were both scored. The only time Kostner was even half-deserving of her PCS was her LP at Sochi where she didn't even hit 70 TES. In fact I don't remember Kostner ever having a 70+ TES program. She did have a 52.40/71.02 TES/PCS the last time she came to Euros. Her fans must have expected the same differential. Sadly the difference today was only marginally laughable.

I'd actually rather see Sotskova going to Worlds. She really needs the experience, and I think Elena should just concentrate on having an awesome program for next year and showing the judges what she can really do (can I get a non-tacky program next year? Please? Pretty pleaaaaaaaaase? )

No that change is supposed to apply to Men after Olympic Season with program also being cut by 30 seconds, but I'd not be shocked if they change their mind after all and withdraw from that proposition.

Just to say something in response to the question "why can't she put an extra 3T? it is good to the sport by pushing it forward" etc.

First, I think it is well known that Evgenia is an ultra consistent jumper. Who doesn't know she can put (at least one) 3T after every jump? (except the lutz maybe). But the point is, in an international competition, there is a thing called decency. In your own country's nationals competition, i dont care you can do whatever you like because the officials are promoting you anyway. But facing an international audience and skaters, you should be respectful by doing what you need to do, not what you want to do. It is like you can scream as loud as you want at home, but you must behave well in public. It is to respect the others and yourself. The judges really should not condone this kind of behaviour, because it is absolutely unfair to other skaters. This kind of behaviour has become, to me, a kind of a spoiled child.

Second, I have said a million times, yes, jumps are an essential part of this sport. BUT, there are many other athletic aspects too in this sport. Edge works, steps, spins, spirals etc. These are ALL athletic (and artistic) qualities of this sport. By pushing only the jumps side is NOT pushing the sport forward, but off the cliff. All of the aforementioned aspects (and many others) are what that constitute the sport of figure skating. If we all incline to ONE particular element of this sport, this sport will crash eventually.

And again, Evgenia is talented, and she has a lot to grow in the artistic side. But if she wants to do more than normal, as she herself said, she should do more on the artistic side in order to make herself a complete skater.

To go further the so called norm and limit - that what brings you greatness. If you ARE good and BETTER than others, then DO it! Show it, display your superiority to the whole world!

It's easy, she portrayed those who love suffering. :p

Another quality competition! This year's Europeans turn out to be a real treat after some rather boring performances during GP season. If we have a similar 4CC, Worlds will blow our minds.
Zhenya! Well, she is in a different world. So is Eteri Tutberidze and I just love, love, love Daniil Gleykhengauz. I have eventually turned into a full paid up Anna Pogo fan. That girl fascinates me. This is not to say that I did not miss Lena, who should have been there instead of Masha.
Loena and Jorik Hendrickx: there's something about these two that makes me wish them real success. Laurine's costume change was fantastic!!

She did get credit for the 2A, only the 3T was invalidated. The + REP was because it was the 4th combo.

But why was her base value for the 2 axel "only" 2.54 when it is 3.63 for other ladies' 2 axel after the half-way mark ?

Not that it mattered much but I'm unsure of the rule here.
