2017 Four Continents Men SP

Wonder whether it will become the new trend of men's thread:clap:

i doubt it. this is a very special event as many agree to say...

we haven't seen yuzu in a long time...

Boyang has announced a new 4loop and was struggling all season so we are expecting a lot from him

Patrick and Nathan just had great LPs at their respective nationals, one with an exquisite and detailed performance, the latter with an exciting 5 quads program...

we are all excited to see where these guys will end up, and we don't forget that Shoma is also in the mix!!!!

4CC's podium last year, Chan, Jin, Han could be completely out of medals if let's say Uno, Hanyu and Chen (in any order) were to outskate them....

I doubt it will be like this for every men's competition....

HOWEVER, I prefer a discussion, in a competition thread to discuss skaters programs and potential rather than these Skater X VS Skater Y threads who tend to be harsher about either skater or the other.... Having all of them to discuss at once brings up different perspective.

Yup, this is a very special event for all the points mentioned by 4everchan. And, as it's in PC, it's extra special as the skaters get used to the Olympic venue and can kind of imagine what it will be like a year from now. Rarely do so many of the top guys go to 4CC, so with the exception of the few European guys, this is like a little preview for world's. Most of them will be in much better shape than they were earlier in the season too so it should be a fairly good competition with many of them wanting to show off their quads.

21 pages! :eeking:

I am beginning to wonder if the pressure is going to get to these guys and they'll be popping jumps/barely saving landings/splatting in the SP. Chen and Hanyu in particular have a lot of pressure on them.

I am also beginning to worry about injuries. An injury at 4CC may mean no Worlds. With all these quads I'm thinking there will be a few bruises at least.

Does anyone know what the ice is like in the rink? Are we going to see some puddles like in TD Garden or AccorHotels Arena (TdF venue)?? Was it good during South Korean Nationals?

That brings me to: Do the skaters and coaches who have been to this rink have an advantage over those who are coming here for the first time? Like Brian Orser could've mentioned a few things to his students after seeing the place with Jun Hwan Cha. How much of that is going to play into the 4CC results? So many variables...

Don't jinx it!:drama:

I think we may see risk at 4CCs that we may not even see at Worlds.

Nothing on the line here for the top guys except momentum & a title. They have their berth to Worlds already.

The young guys are going to bring it because they have to. It's the only way to outpace the reputation factor by the Olympians.

The Olympians are going to have to bring it because the young guys are going to bring it.

I expect lots of falls, pops, & mistakes. I also think we have enough athletes here, we have a good shot at some brilliance.

Well, since I'm less concerned about the medals....

I am *so* sad that Misha Ge is apparently skating injured, apparently from trying to "up" his tech, AND tweeting again that this may be his last year:sad21::sad21::sad21:

I loooove what Misha brings to the ice, and I would rather see what he brings than what several more "highly rated" skaters bring. I hope he brings it at this comp!:hap10:

Should be relabelled. "Steps and Transitions from SOME 4CC men"

So I am predicting a 4th place SP that breaks 100 points... or will the 5th place skate also break the mark?

oh karne.... no it doesn't include all the men... i had to edit the link so i wrote "main" contenders.... because that's what it is...

do not shoot the messenger, I didn't make the video and yes, if I agree with you that it would have been nice to see everyone, this is still very interesting to watch in my humble opinion...

Thx for posting. Very very very interesting. Especially for me, to see Jason first, and then Nathan....
and then the other men (I admit, did not make it through everyone).
My opinions remain unchanged.;)

I am so happy that 4CC is actually being taken seriously by nearly all the top competitors. FINALLY.

Europeans is such a prestigious event, and 4CC has been... well, historically not so much.

The Mens and Dance events will be deeper than Euros, and not by a small amount. The Ladies and Pairs, not so much, but the top geo-eligible competitors (less AW) are pretty much here.

well, now we know, after a couple conversation that we completely disagree about how judging should occur ;) so the last couple pages have proven that.
Let's agree to disagree from now on.

I value what's happening in front of me, whether or not it's by a consistent skater or not. Otherwise, Denis Ten would never have medaled and that would have made me sad.... ;)

Or maybe, being consistent just for the big events brings a bonus LOL :)

Consistency is valued in all sports. This is a sports competition. In judged sports, when two competitors are very close, the more consistent athlete wins. (E.g. Gymnast Uchimura's win in Rio Olympics.) It's not easy to be consistent. If it is, everyone would be consistent. When two competitor's performances are not close at all, then whoever gives the better performance wins.

I'd say pairs is pretty even with D/R, S/H, Y/Z, etc at 4CC.
