2017 Four Continents Men FS

Um no. Yuzuru lost because Nathan was given a VERY generous PCS score. How is his Interpretation and Composition worth a high 8? One judge even gave them a SAME score for skating skill.

But well, I guess we should have seen this coming, after what happened in the ladies field

I know hardcore Yuzuru fans will be mad but I just want to point out the extraordinary irony in it all. Y'all complaining about how 'PCS having no meaning as long as the quads are landed!!'

heh

The judging was overall quite fair. Hanyu deserved to win the free skate, but that doubling of the quad had Nathan earn enough points to carry him to first place overall. I would have given Chen maybe a 86 in PCS but I think the judges like giving extra points to skaters who skate last and survive the pressure (after Hanyu, no less). The gold at worlds, though, is still Hanyu's to lose with his improved jump layout.

Darn it, I forgot to eat dinner! I too engrossed in the competition to run and get my food. It's 1am, so forget it.

He definitely will be a contender!

If his body can hold up for another year...maybe

Only skate I would rewatch from this last group was Yuzuru's, tbh. But at least Nathan didn't fall all over the place, so I'm not super upset about him winning. This time anyway.

It's not like Nathan won the long. It was won in the short-- where Yuzu popped a jump. There are only 3 jumps in the short. Yuzu doesn't pop in the short (and the long's are skated the same) then Yuzu wins. Sorry he didn't get keep it together in the short (remember he was third).

If Hanyu doesn't pop either of his quad salchows in the short OR long, he wins.

Interesting how my comment was about 88 pcs and you redirected to another topic all together.

Yuzu lost because he popped a jump in the short (and it didn't help he popped one in the long, but it was balanced out by Nathan's negative GOEs). The kid interprets the hell out of that music.

Nathan deserve the win. 5 Quads! That's insane, he upped his tech with 2 Axels. Pcs is subjective, I find Hanyu boring as hell, he shouldn't even be 6 points ahead of Nathan in PCS. Dont be a sore loser! Plus he messed up his sals in both programs. He won the FS , what do you want.

nathan's pcs are quite high but we all know they suddenly go up when you hit your quads. Knew he would win.
I"m still in awe of Yuzu's skate, though. the guts at the end.... at least he won the long program and it was his short that killed him. No one can rely on mistakes from anyone.

Yes, exactly correct.....and that is the way it should be.....Yuzu is fantastic after all.....it was a fantastic showdown between two great skaters....now ..on to worlds!

congratulations to the medalists! wht a fun last group!

regarding the placements, this is quite reminiscent of last quad, when a young yuzu with a higher tech content came out of almost nowhere to steal patrick's thunder. I guess consistency is the name of the game now, with the younger skaters upping the tech content even more. and judges have been known to give higher PCS with higher tech content. nothing new there. it happened to Boyang last year and now it's nathen (though i find nathen much less sloppy than Boyang). yuzu either needs to have 5 quads to match their tech content or make absolutely no mistakes in the SP. I sometimes wish he wasn't so stubborn about the 4S-3T in the short. it's not like it's worth a lot more than 4T-3T. still though, I really appreciate his grit and determination! To me, he's the best skater in the world, male or female, regardless of what happened here.

can't wait for worlds now! hope these guys stay healthy and go easy on their bodies

I love Yuzuru to pieces but I think Nathan fully deserves the gold here. I am so excited to see what happens at Worlds next month and the Olympics next year. Actually now that I think about it, I wouldn't mind this exact same lineup for the Olympic podium (sorry Javi and Patrick). Wooh! Congrats Nathan, Yuzuru, and Shoma!!

Nathan tried to cram so many things into FS 5 quads, 2 axels, 3 combos and also a Zayak! :scratch2:
That boy is greedy!
