And it was the same at 4 Continents and the Asian Games. I actually had to stop myself from passing comment about it at the time.

But, now that somebody else has brought it up, I will comment!

I honestly don't think she realises that the illusion mesh isn't illusioning and, hence, that we are getting quite as much of an eyefull as we are!

At least I hope that's the case, and that she is not just flaunting her assets.

Because that amount of boob on show is just not appropriate for a 16 year old girl.

They were always good, they just never knew how to deliver when they needed to. Being healthy for an extended period of time goes a long way, when you're trying to build the competition consistency.

Gabby and Kaetlyn skate last.

Was a little worried about this at first but it may actually be a good thing. Gabby is now used to skating right after Evgenia, and she will want to outskate Kaetlyn again. And if she skates well then Kaetlyn will want to outskate her to remain as Canada's # 1. After all Kaetlyn won nationals but Gabby out skater her in both the short and long and thus over all at 4CC!

Someone asked how the CAN ladies got so good so fast - they have been good for sometime now but now with 3 top ladies (all of whom are National Champs) in the mix they are only getting better and better trying to top each other. I really think had Joannie had someone challenging her on a regular basis we would have seen her move faster up the ranks. Cynthia had the goods but just never was able to put it together except for the one time when Joannie wasn't even there.

If I get a chance I'll take a look at the top few skaters and make a video of some good HD quality videos appear. I have a busy adventurous day of being outside in the sun first.

I do expect Kaetlyn's jumps to look better too but angle is EVERYTHING on those videos.

what matters is the tech panel's angle... and it's never the same as the tv angle... so save yourself the trouble... and on top of that, it's been a year now.... waiting for that pchiddy video you were working on my dearest

What if Kaetlyn was not sidelined with injuries the last few, imagine the hardware. The Canadian women have been underestimated for several seasons in my opinion. Nice to see them peak at the right time.

Here are my observations about Karen's 3T

To determine whether a jump landing was less or more than 1/4 short of a rotation, we first have to establish the starting point of said rotation. I suspect that most here who hold the view that Karen's 3T was obviously UR or even "nearly a half turn" underrotated might be looking at the starting point of the jump differently than those who think the 3T was borderline or just shy of 1/4 turn underrotated.

I agree the 3T was underrotated on the landing but I don't see the UR being over 1/4 turn. My judgment is based on "the skating direction of her right foot at the moment when her left leg was directly behind her right leg" as the starting point of the jump. But because her right foot continued to rotate along a curve on the ice before actual takeoff, and its direction kept changing, I can see how others may see a different starting point (and thus see her landing as “before the 1/4 mark").

Unfortunately, the way Karen does the backend 3T, she doesn't "establish" the skating direction very clearly for a half second or longer, and then pull her left leg back, like how others do it. Therefore it may confuse the viewer and lead the viewer to assume that the jump started later than it actually did.

Another way to look at it: for her 3T, her left toe leaves the ice facing backwards (i.e. ~180 degree pre-rotation) like most skaters. Keeping this in mind, if you look at the super close-up replay of that jump in the SP video, you will see that she touched down after the 1/4 mark.

Again I am not denying that the 3T was short and had a big hook on the landing, but I don't see it being more than 1/4 rotation short.

I get what you mean with "bad timing". Injuries ARE always bad, but when it matters for Olympic qualification, they seem even worse because even if a skater will recover by next season/the Olympics, they're now fighting for less spots.

Similar issue in gymnastics this past summer. Larisa Iordache of Romania, one of their best gymnasts, broke a finger (much more damaging in gymnastics than FS due to hand usage requirements) in March 2016, and had to miss the Rio Test Event (final qualification event for gymnastics, like Nebelhorn is for skating next season). Romania was already struggling since they hadn't qualified a full team at the previous Worlds, and without Larisa's scores, they were unable to qualify a team to Rio.

Oh man, thank you for the shout out to Team Romania. They are everything to me. Hopefully they'll be back strong at Euros this year. Larisa looked good on beam recently and Catalina could never be praised highly enough. Last year was the disaster of the century for them. So sad. I really hope the same doesn't happen to the Japanese ladies here.

In fairness i've never seen Kaetlyn skating that well internationally before this season, even in the SP there was always a mistake on a jump or on the spins.

Gabby is starting to skate even clean FS, i'm worried for Anna now, i would like to see this podium:

2. Kaetlyn
3. Anna

I think there were a lot of missed under rotations in the ladies short....
with this being the competition that determines how many spots each country gets for the Olympics,
I was hoping for some tougher judging....
it's just unfair for girls who really are trying to fully rotatу all jumps......

I actually think Ashley is probably fine with it. Probably makes her feel better about the 3-spot potential, as well as the knowledge that she might not have to carry the US ladies team all on her own.

The extra issue for Romania was that Larisa had gotten bronze at the World Championships which SHOULD have been enough for her to qualify her own spot for herself (that would belong to her, not the federation) but the FIG rules at the time only gave automatic spots to event medalists, not AA medalists. There was no way to retroactively update the rules.

At least Japan will most likely get 2 spots.

Disagree. The lutz was definitely within a quarter-turn. Borderline URs should be given to the skater. Over-strictness in calling URs (some judges don't even follow the quarter turn rule--if it's not fully around, <) is killing the sport. I love Karen's short program. Kudos to her for putting in the spiral. Spirals should be made a required element again.

Agree. The placements don't matter until the end. She is only a fraction of a point behind Karen. And didn't Karen beat her at Nationals?
