The russians were a hot mess. Interesting how they reappear a year before the Olympics. This happened before that last Olympic cycle.

They never disappeared? They were injured for a season but competed all last year, they just didn't go to Worlds last year.

Gilles / Poirier were also strangely laboured & wonky in their dance imo. Big contrast from Skate Canada f.e

Come on... C/L are average skaters at best, and their program isn't interesting at all..

I don't prefer any team over the other here it's just FACTS. They were very good compared to B/S who weren't at their best, and with PCS included, they still got to be behing in the free...
We will see how much the other will get now...

The judges dont consider them a top team anymore. That was made crystal clear by the short dance where they finally did what they had been struggling with all season, made almost all their levels, hit all their technical elements, and were still kept out of the final flight, and even placed below ridiculously overscored and held up teams like the Shibutanis and to a lesser degree Chock & Bates. Plus it is fairly clear by the scores V&M are getting (not that they havent deserved every single one of their wins, but some of their scores are kind of ridiculous and over the top, alot like Medvedeva's) the CSA are putting everything politically into ensuring V&M get a 2nd Olympic Gold. Especialy after the CSA left them kind of dry last quad to put all their politics behind Chan. So there is really nothing left for Canadian #2 W&P, unlike many of these other teams who have their feds #1 backing including both Bobrova & Soloviev and Capelleni & Lanotte.

BS has always been bs to me. They are a second tier team, when compared to WeaPo. The closer to the Russian frontier, the more generous the marks, as history has shown.

As much as I have issues with C/B, I appreaciate they are doing a faster, more exciting free, unlike other teams who go lyrical and bore me.

Judges have always taken skating fans for idiots when it comes to Bobrova & Soloviev's scores. I feel bad dumping on them since they seem like incredibly nice people, and they are a good dance team, just not as great as the judges mark them. Maybe they are more impressive when you see them live than on television, they are one of the few teams I have coincidentally never seen live at an event I attended in Canada or the U.S, I dont know.

I take comfort that despite a career of overscoring they will soon retire with a mere 1 bronze medal from worlds, and an Olympic Gold in the Team Event in Sochi (which Russia and thus they did fully deserve).

How they are ahead of C&L and W&P in the FD based entirely on superior PCS is ridiculous. Both those teams should be over them clearly in PCS. W&P are flat out way better skaters, and C&L have their best FD ever this year.
