I don't care about nationalities either. In fact, I wish they would do away with that whole aspect of the Olympics.
For me, the priority you should be competing in is:
- for yourself
- for your family
- for your coach
- for your club
- for your town
- for your county
- for your province / state
- for your country
Where you are from should just be a way of describing you. Not the be all and end all.
That said, because we are a small country, I can be known to bang the drum for competitors from Northern Ireland!
In sports where Northern Ireland does not have a big presence, I would tend to cheer our competitors on. Of course, there are sports where we are successful. But, I have to be honest, in most of the sports we are good at, I tend not to like our star performers. Because a lot of them get too cocky when they do well.
And, because I am from a small country, I do tend to support people from other small countries. Because I know how hard it is for people from small countries to get recognition and support.
There are certain countries that I do tend to support, even though I don't have any connection to them. Russia, Japan, Germany, Italy, and the Czech Republic, to name a few.
But, on the whole, I support people I like, no matter where they are from.
