Patrick Chan

Lol, this thread is a hoot to catch up on after a crazy weekend! Maybe Waldo Chan should stay mysteriously hidden until Thursday night's SP! :eeking: ::laugh2:

Which one? DITW or Hallelujah?

Just updated my countdown blog post! In the meantime, here's a nice photo from 2015 that was posted (reposted?) today. Enjoy!

:love::love::love:

Patrick and his reversible beauty!!!

Wishing Patrick all the best for Skate Canada. I'm looking forward to seeing his programs again with proper light and video. His FS in particular is going to make me emotional, I know it.

........because Patrick says, "Don't take my joy of skating away from me."

He is really skating by his own principle, without giving in to COP and trend and pressures. :agree: His performance and success can't be measured with scores and medals any more at this point when the scoring system is out of step with the new reality of Men skating. RESPECT, from me, from all his fans, and from more and more general skating fans, is what he has earned and his rightful reward now. Personally, Mens medals these days means little to me as a matter of which gambler wins on the day, and they seem to mean less for him too.

Patrick's success in skating is largely a matter of building on a strong solid foundation, which enables him to add quads after mastering skating skills. And it enables him to learn new quads at the age at which most are retiring and while many younger very talented skaters have a hard time even getting a reliable quad, even incuring injuries in their effort. In the same vein, I believe he wants to lay a good foundation for his new programs that are very special to him by mastering the choreography before adding newer quads. It's his system and his new mindset of performance and presenting the program first and foremost. Doing things his own way is a new freedom he's accorded himself, coming from a place of confidence and relaxation that he's gained from knowing himself and from understanding "dust in the wind".
:2thumbs:

I have to post and run, but I love the happy vibe in this thread leading up to SC!!!!! It's making me happy. :) So much color and so many WaldoChans!!! :ghug:

Yeah, I think that site tracker has been broken since 2014...

He's spending time with ice dancers, as usual... even ones as young as 10 and 13 years old!

And plenty of others, like Marin Honda...;)

i like this version even better.. thanks for sharing...

that is the truth...

we want to see a happy Patrick, with clean programs we can watch over and over and over, forever and forever...
I quoted the part about Patrick "wanting to enjoy it" from the other article, but I like this next sentence and next paragraph a lot:
"I need to have a realistic goal in order to enjoy it.”

He’s always struck a proficient balance between athletics and artistry on the ice. It’s now his off-ice mantra, too, as he prepares for life after competitive skating. It has given him the necessary perspective to take control of how this final year is going to unfold. On his terms.

And this explanation of his goals for the Olympics is good (not new, just put into a nice tidy paragraph). Yes, Patrick, it does make sense:
“This being a third Olympics, I want to perform with a feeling of complete control of my situation, and really having made the decision thinking about my personal well being and my personal enjoyment of performing, if that makes any sense,” he said.

And the wording of this sentence made me so happy and sad at the same time. I hope Patrick skates in shows for years to come, like his buddy Kurt:
That was no recipe for an enjoyable goodbye tour, so he trimmed the list.

Also, I need to retract what I posted here the other day about how Patrick "took Nebelhorn away from me." It's true that I would have liked to see his programs at Nebelhorn. But later it occurred to me that, in reality, I never go back and watch his Finlandia programs from last season. I tend to pick one of each program, maybe two, to re-watch. (Chopin, though, I love to watch three different ones - JO because he skated so well his first time on competitive ice since the Olympics, surprising himself and us; SC because of the comeback, happy smiles and tears, and what he overcame; 4CC because he hit every note of the music, the jumps were pristine, and he showed he could two 3As again, plus the ice slap and genuine shock that he barely won). My point is, if we are going to ultimately look back on one DITW and one Hallelujah, they probably wouldn't have been from Nebelhorn. The more times he competes, the more chances he has to work the kinks out, but he's got two GPs, Nationals, and Olympics (where he'll also do one or both programs in the Team Event), and possibly the GPF. Even not counting GPF, there are several chances for those "perfect program moments." I think we'll be okay without Nebelhorn, especially since Patrick himself is striving to be calmer and more relaxed and comfortable at each outing. I wrote a blog post once where I said that I was extra grateful for 2013 TEB because of what happened in Sochi. Wherever our magical DITW and Hallelujah happen, we will celebrate them for the gifts that they are.

Patrick's nemesis at the last two Olympics was mental. This time around, even though what appears to be in his way of winning the OGM, or even any medal, is technical, namely no having a crazy array of quad jumps, he has decided to focus on ridding the old nemesis. Instead of chasing the OGM and the high risk uncomfortable quads, he has been cultivating a mindset of following his bliss. And his actions reflect this mindset.

Bravo, Patrick, for going for the real success! Your bliss is my bliss. And thank you for understanding your fans and skating for us, even as you skate for yourself.

GO PATRICK!!!!!!!!

It would be very nice to see him perform for years to come. However, I wouldn't mind it at all if he took a break to explore his interests and see what he wants to do with the rest of his life. It's all good.

True, even though based on his performance at the Onyx, they probably would have been even better than Finlandia because he prepared all summer this year without a break. But yes, the best is yet to come!

Glad we are in agreement about his mental nemesis. :agree: I've always thought that if he could let go of that mental pressure and skate for joy and skate to give to his audience, he would come out on top, no matter what the scores or critics said. I eagerly look forward to seeing that this season.

Ah, what nice words! I must retweet the 2nd paragraph to Patrick!

Well, this beautiful animation of Patrick will be hard to top for SCI well wishes!

I think Patrick is adjusting to not having his coach at his beck and call, and has been preparing for his season debut mostly on his own. So he goofed off in BC? And play Waldo game with us? ;) Time to bring your goods, Patrick!
