2017 GP Cup of China Mens FS

Unless Jason bombs at Nationals i think he's going to the Olympics. He is a consistently good skater under pressure and has a great chance to make the GPF for the first time.

Sinatra doesn't suit Petrov at all. He has the personality of a cereal box.

I think Kovtun would have done better with this program.

Petrov reminds me of Adian Pitkeev a bit and I can't help but wonder how far Adian could've gone without his back problems

Alexander Petrov

Seemingly landed forwarded on 4T, could be < or <<. Fine 3A+2T. Ouch, hard fall on 3A (could be < as well). Slow 3Lz+2T. Ouch, a fall on the 3F. And a fall on the 3Lz... Oh my, I can't, another fall on 3Lo. Foot down on 2A+2T.

After the fall on the 3F, all the spunk, snap, and vitality (whatever was there to start with) was sapped from the performance. He just sort of gave up. :(

OMG...I jinxed him! :hopelessness: I'm so sorry Sasha!

I do like his little tie straightening bit and what not.

Also he doesn't seem to be tiring out which is good!

I feel bad for Petrov. This program does a much better job of showing him off. He has quick feet and good charisma. I'll be interested to see him in the future.

Oh dear. Terrible, disastrous meltdown for Petrov.

Yikes, 4 falls! He's never really improved jumpwise since juniors...

Only an 8 point drop in TES? The tech panel was very generous, then.
The judges were fairly generous, too. Higher PCS for Vincent than for Kevin, who IMO had better choreo and more varied transitions etc and no falls...

I made some coffee and now I'm a bit behind the stream. Should I even bother watching Petrov?

Noooooo!!!

But seriously, unless Vincent starts getting a lot more consistent, I don't know that he's a lock. Jason has a lot more experience and recognition; if it doesn't look like Vincent is a likely podium contender, I could see the fed sticking with fan favourite Jason, even if he won't podium, rather than risking an embarrassing flop from Vincent.

Well international judges prefer Jason's from a program standpoint (and probably +GOE if I look closer). Yes, there's a reputation factor, but consider that in Jason's debut GP season, judges were already giving him 80+ PCS, and that was back in 2013-2014 when judges were a little bit more stringent with PCS marks (Hanyu was still in the 80s too!). But Vincent can get those PCS marks to go up faster with clean multi-quad programs, so the strategy isn't that crazy.

Chicago is quite beautiful, especially the view of downtown as you drive along Lake Michigan.

These jumps however... and his blank expression. Poor Alexander.

First group was forgettable (sigh)

Okay come on, Hanny, Max, Keiji, Javi, Boyang and Mikhail.

He's skated this program like 50 times and I'm not convinced he could even find Chicago on a map.
