2018 US Championships Sr. Ladies FS

Nothing against Tara but she was not a COP skater. She did the triple loop triple loop but she lacked amplitude, speed, power and maybe rotation sometimes. Her jumps were puny even Michelle the great argualy was not a COP skater. Her jumps lacked amplitude though I think both would get marks for consistency and repu tation or GOE's based on that.

Such drama yet again Karen Chen and Ashley Wagner - I can hear some people say - easy solution neither goes and give it to Japan lol. Won't happen. i really don't know what to say or who to send. These ladies were underwhelming. The judging rather odd throughout both sp and lp and inflation, gifting was very evident so people stop picking on Russia because generous markings or oversights (or both) was plenty evident. I do think the USFA /USA is pushing Bradie - let's see what the world stage says. Good for her in winning the title. I am disappointed in Ashley, I think she needed to do a Rippon - no not the arm up but have that drive and desire and leaving it on the ice. I am not sure La La Land was all that. She gambled and yes, the judging was suspect but in the end what a mess. Bradie and Mirai earne dthere spots now what???? Mirai deep down must be thanking h er lucky stars -this could have been 2014 all over.

As for the body of work the fact Karen was fourth last year at worlds might end Ashley's dream. Ashley and Karen won't sleep tonite. Meanwhile there are some people partying at a Japanese restaurant (Mirai's parents restaurant).

Mirai worked her behind off for this. For FOUR years...and this is her moment. She will go to the Olympics. I cried tears of joy for her after her skate(Starr already had me going).

Bradie is a gold medal contender in Pyongchang. If she skates clean she will be on the podium, and if her competitors falter she will be the winner.

Of course if the USFS doesn't care how the 3rd entry does and puts their eggs in Bradie's basket then sending Karen is fine - but If they want scoring potential then Ashley is more sensible IMO.

I mean Karen erred on half her jumping passes!

Karen by far has the higher scoring potential over Ashley. As for their actual performances here, the only big mistake for Karen was on the Salchow. It's not correct to say half her jump elements were 'erred', she just had two other small flaws, a < for an otherwise cleanly landed and huge 3Lutz+3Toe and what should have been just a ! call for a big 3Flip. The < call on her second Lutz was crazy, it was a stunning jump that deserved full credit and +GOE.

Ashley in comparison did not get dinged on her questionable 3-3 and had a popped Salchow and a very flawed Lutz. The tech panel unfairly threw everything they could at Karen and yet she still beat Ashley. That says a lot.

What an exciting evening. I am so happy for Mirai that I was crying, too. I was also very happy for Karen. Way to bring it when it really counts.

Someone asked up-thread (my apologies for not remembering who) why the USFSA might have been less supportive of Ashley. I think the simple answer is consistency. She was never the most artistic or most elegant skater, but, of the USA women, she was the most consistent over time. But now Bradie has assumed that spot, and she is actually more consistent than Ashley is right now. Mirai has demonstrated that she deserves to go, too, so the only person who really might get bumped off of the podium is Karen. For the third US lady, I think sending a young talent and letting her have that experience makes a lot of sense.

I actually thought Tara and Johnny did a good job, but I think their target audience is the casual fan, not the incredible experts found on this site.
I was yelling YEAH MIRAI! so loudly throughout her skate, I thought the neighborhood dogs would bark . I am so happy and proud for her :luv17:. Congratulations to Karen and Bradie for showing their talents when it mattered, and also to Ashley for her lovely free program performance :hap10:. Thanks to all the ladies for their enjoyable programs .

I agree. I would love to see Ting at JW! Her free was incredible and to come back from 11th to podium!! She really impressed me and I think she could outscore Amber at JW.

That’s th I ma in reason why I would send her. Amber has been so weak all season. Three international competitions with a score of 150. She does marginally better year, but still in the 160s. Ting got a case of nerves but showed massive fight in the LP. I would love for her to get some experience. This season, I feel like Amber didn’t appreciate the chances she was given in her international assignments. Why should she get another? Make her earn it again.

Well I’ve read this entire thread, which is go down in history no doubt. But it’s 2am, and I need some sleep. :bed:

Why send Amber to another Jr Worlds? Hasn't she already been to 2 and it's it time to send younger girls to Junior Worlds not 18, 19 year old''s who just get beat by 14 year old's?

Kaetlyn Osmond, Carolina Kostner, Satoko Miyahara, Kaori Sakamoto, Evgenia Medvedeva, Alina Zagitova, and Maria Sotskova would like to say hello. She could place decently high, but AT LEAST 3 of these skaters smoke her in PCS alone, and can match her technically, with consistency.

Looks like the USFSA gave out some rose colored glasses with their scoring today.

You want to say she's throwing shade, fine. But you are the one who brought HER race into it. What would it matter if she were plaid? Shade is still shade no matter what color of the person it comes from. But by highlighting her color, you are playing a race card. And it's unnecessary.

this girl is not clever enough to throw a good shade. And she is a white girl attempting shade throwing. Focus on double lutz, girl! Shade is not your strong suit. And you are the one who immediately wanted to call the aclu over this, so no, you are pulling out the race card

Because USFS is stupid. They were going to send her last year after another subpar skate. She had to withdraw for personal reasons, leading to Starr being sent this year. Clearly it’s had a hand in helping Starr deal with pressure. Which is why USFS should send Ting for the same reason.

Are they announcing the 4CC, World, and Junior World team tomorrow as well?

They’ll probably get announced or posted on the USFS website at the same time, hopefully.

Fingers crossed for Ting! It's possible they'll see what we do.

This is exactly what I'm worried about, in the judging tonight. Karen's PCS internationally and domestically. The international ones were AFTER she placed 4th in Worlds last year. As I said above, the US federation is free to send whoever they want to the Olympics (and would have been much better off saying "The top 3 in nationals will go!"), but this looks irritating.

I could see Bradie receiving the same increase level as Mirai, and maybe 1 point more for going clean, so let’s give her 5.5. Still 3 points too high.

Mirai, I am ok with her increase.

Ashley didn’t get any increase at all, even with equal level and style performance than performed internationally (I am using this word QUITE OFTEN today).

Karen= wut?

You want to give Bradie a slightly higher increase than the rest for cleanliness, that’s kosher.

But with the skates that the rest put out there, a nationals increase was warranted for all 4 performers.

Only 3 received them. The 3 that USFSA wants on their Olympic team, not the 3 who deserve to be on the Olympic team.

Has anyone posted this here yet? Breakdown of each judges score:

Inman seemed to be the sanest judge until he came to Karen, and he went off on her.

Actually, it’s quite telling. He is pretty much exact with Mirai and Ashley, lower on Bradie and Karen, but right in line with what these ladies would receive Internationally with these skates.
