WAIT...you tell me that Kostner does have transitions in her LP? But that goes against everything that I've read and against the mantra that gets repeated here all the time ;)

She does, but they aren't the difficult ones, like Charlottes, etc. She has a natural grace and elegance that is simply beautiful to watch, even though she is weaker technically.I don't think Maria "Oatmeal" Sotskova was robbed. At least Alina and Zhenya had personality in spades on ice, Alina more than Zhenya, who is still "acting" too much.

Exactly, most of these vocal fans are biased, and their comments are subjective. It can't be that ALL the international judges at JGP, JGPF, at CoC,at IdF, at GPF, at Euros, it's A LOT of judges and technical specialists, that they are ALL WRONG and a few outspoken fans are right. And then there's the quality of the criticisms and arguments, I can see exactly what the judges see, as do many Zagi's fans and media commentators. It's a large, stable, varied majority vs a vocal, same-old, minority.

YOU'RE WRONG! 20 self-proclaimed experts know better. Medvedeva has a flutz and she is constantly overscored and she's the worst thing that happened to the sport since Sotnikova and there's a Russian conspiracy to conquer the world and the judges are paid big money to keep the Russian program afloat.
Everyone knows that! And even if I didn't, there's always Koola King to enlighten me. Hail Koola King!

I watch her videos sometimes and just wonder about this jealous hatred towards Medvedeva, who beats Yuna's records. I believe the next aim is Alina. She'll find something, no doubt. And the trolls in the comments section will be fed:coffee:

I went back to take a good look at Tara's Olympic gold medal FS that was repeatedly mentioned to see what it was like in the good old days when it wasn't just about the jumps like today's Russian jumping beans, and found that almost 80% of the programs were dedicated to setting up jumps - from the beginning till the end, crossovers, a few moves, crossovers, jump, rinse, repeat...

It was even MORE about the jumps in those days, and a lot of time was spent telegraphing, preparing, and the pauses were so long. In contrast, in Kostner's, Zagi's and Med's programs, there were a lot of entertaining and engaging transitions, dance movements, creative steps and positions, variations in tempo, in distribution of elements, I love how the sport has evolved!

Agreed!
When comparing programs from 20 years ago, it looks like a completely different sport. Easier jump content, non-existent step sequences, empty choreographies, horrible music cuts and scrunchies. Oh, the scrunchies...
Coming from someone who's watched a good 15 years of 6.0 system programs, I can only snort when someone is nostalgic of the old days of yore.

My bet is on the backloading, the childish choreography, not finishing the transitional moves and that she's disposable untill the next big star because puberty. :laugh2:

I saw a link to her videos and was kinda shocked by the garish music, graphics and rude comments. At first I thought it's clownish parody but dang, these people are serious in tearing down beauty. The Russians, Zagi, Med, are singled out specifically for vitriol, really don't understand why. No other countries' or top male skaters received this type of tearing down. I actually like some of those transitions/one-foot skating counting comparison videos that are more neutral to try to analyse why some skaters are stronger than others. I'd love to see a counting video for transitions for the ladies, I bet my girl Alina will win!

There's so much pressure, not least of all from everyone who loves Med in Russia, that I fear for this 15 year old, of modest minority Tartar origin, who has left her family to join Eteri only to find herself in the quagmire that her incredible talent is throwing a spanner into the original clockwork plans.:roll9:

I suppose I am just too old to understand the appeal of this Koola King thing. I couldn't get through 30 seconds of a video. It just seems like another form of cyberbullying to me. This is what people want to watch? That this person spends that much of her free time putting these clips together is disturbing to me, but even moreso that she has so many fans. Horrible stuff...

I just laugh at her videos because they are so childish, and she is so obsessed and delusional. The one about Ashley Wagner was hilarious. Despite the fact that she is just a delusional hater, I do agree with her basic premise that Medvedeva is overscored

You apparently haven't read all the tearing down and vitriol directed against Ashley Wagner (U.S.) and Kaetlyn Osmond (Canada).

Most people notice the vicious remarks more when the target is their favorite or their countrywoman.

And yet, 20 years ago the sport was just as competitive, just as interesting, just as exciting to watch, just as emotionally engaging as it is today. I think the same an be said back when Karen Magnussen, Janet Lynn and Beatrix Schuba were duking it out at the 1972 Olympics, going double jump for double jump.

apparently Koola King tried to join and protest Sochi and was banned for being so hateful in his/her language choice...
so now all her little supporters hate GS and many of us in particular!
sorry to russianfan, puremagic, tars, Grin, atsumiri, me, etc.... we're all on the list....

Step sequences were a required element in the SP under 6.0 so they weren't non-existent. I much preferred the fast and dramatic step sequences of skaters like Yagudin and Michelle Kwan to the labored and twisty-turny ones under IJS. I also miss beautiful arabesque spirals held for more that two seconds, classic layback spins (no Biellman), scratch spins, held-out positions and programs that had an emotional impact.
