2018 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event Day 3

I'm really sad the Shibutanis are doing both segments. I hate that Chock and Bates or Hubbell and Donohue didn't get a chance at the team medal since they both have outscored the Shibutanis in the FD, plus H/D are the national champs. I know people wanted Mirai to get a medal, but I really don't get why they swapped out the ladies and not dance.

Do you think Bradie could have gotten 2nd? I don't.

Tanith Belbin White is certainly a huge fan of V/M. I have to say that I love her commentary. I left the Canadian commentary to watch US commentary. Tanith is spot on.

Such a good night, even with the men! And next week I'll actually be in the same timezone as all this! Hopefully the individual events happen on primetime, though, or else I'll have to catch replays. And I'm definitely going to try to hunt down a plushie of the Olympic mascot for sure.

Mirai get a bronze Olympic medal to go with her pewter one hehehe....

Disappointing they didn't give Weaver/Poje a medal too. Lack of fair team play.

Yea, it’s too bad the Canadian fed couldn’t make a swap for the free dance after the gold was locked.... but on the other hand, if Tessa and Scott asked to do both programs, would the fed actually tell them no? I mean, they are kind of a big deal. ;)

Kaitlyn and Tessa are legitimately very close friends, and I think that’s wonderful. I honestly don’t think Kaitlyn and Andrew begrudge their national “rivals” for their comeback, it is what it is. Tessa and Scott aren’t the reason for Kaitlyn and Andrews’s struggles over the last two seasons.

I'm sure I'm in a small minority. But I think it's a testament to the skill of V/M that they can sell the trivial choreography of that program. I also think the judges *like* trivial choreography because they think interpretation is just making a motion that matches the music. V/M actually moved into this *obvious* approach as their career went forward, so I think they are aware of it. A fast two-note beat - bob your head. Staccato sforzando - slam your arms. Soaring, sognando crescendo - time for soaring lift. String tango riff - time to shift your body with a shoulder slush. It strikes me as obvious.

The French aren't better though.

I don't think they like trivial choreography... I think whatever it is it has to be done VERY well. I also think that when you have a certain name or country it does not necessarily matter what you have. I really prefer V/M choreo this time around because I had a hard time at the begining of the season - but then they were probably finding what could be ideal and let it grow, except that everyone is scared on a Olympic year.

But everyone is running away with the narrative that Canadians are better than the French... When I compare both on EVERY single element, I'll have the French higher, and that just confirmed it tonight (if they skate like that in a week of course). It's the skating. I think the choreo on both programs does the job - yes you can be subjective but that does not necessarily play.

how come Rippon lost to Kolyada? Too lazy for protocols.

Great FD from V/M but last time they performed it was better. It’s slower, somehow. Not as fiery.

Zagitova gets my vote for gold.

Finally, can mods/IT increase capacity here for individual events?

I am so sad for Weaver & Poje, they deserve so much more respect from their fed.

I think if the federation could've chosen the contestents right before the event they would've
gone with W\P, But between Chan and Daleman it was too risky to not go with V\M

I'm really so thrilled with these results. A roller coaster of an event but so many great moments.

Also--Canada gave Korea their gold medal in Vancouver and now Korea is returning the favor! ALLIES!
