That's not what they were referring to. YOU never said anything bad about T/M, just their program; that's fine. But another comment literally said "I'm glad Candyman wasn't on the podium, the good guys won, then listed the countries". Or something along those lines. That was not okay.

I am glad Candyman did not win because it is a gosh-awful song for a program and the costumes are horrid.

I do not know if the good *guys* won, but the more enjoyable and nuanced programs won. And this from someone who doesn’t follow pairs except for two American pairs and has no emotional investment in anybody winning.

Except I do think Meagan’s a pistol

You should have seen the comments on Twitch. Like they were saying "Good pop." I actually like T/M, but I agree that it was not a good program. Their program was last season would have worked better. But they're still young and barring any serious injuries, could certainly make the Beijing 2022 Olympics if they keep it up.

Yeah, saw those too. I don't like Candyman at all (and made a lot of facetious comments about it yesterday), but never did I want T/M to fall. They seem nice, especially Tarasova. Heck even if they're not nice, that's not what matters to me in the rink. They can live their personal lives as vicious warlords for all I care, if they were to be the best of the night, I would be fine with their winning. But saying "Morozov has a ratty face, which makes him look unpleasant" (or some other crap) is belittling to them as athletes and people.

But, OTOH, you and your partner are grown up adults, if anyone gives you that piece of crap to skate to you simply throw a Pasha Grishuk or Elena Ilinykh like fit and say, not over my dead body will I ever skate to that!!.

I'd imagine that we can quibble about the scoring, but Aliona and Bruno created an Olympic moment. My husband, who has no investment in pairs whatsoever, said that program should probably go down as one of the best ever. They caught the attention of casual fans judging by my twitter feed. That's pretty incredible.

Look at how close the result was. There are no absolutes. They had the technically easiest program of the top 4 and I wouldn't call it one of the greatest programs myself, the LP they had last season was better. The scores were extremely generous: +3 GOE across the board on that throw Salchow when the landing was not perfect, 10's on PCS.

There are arguments for Duhamel/Radford being winners with the Quad and for Sui/Han winning after being so much better in the SP (S/M and D/R were seriously not great in the SP).

All of their throws weren't really landed perfectly. Landed, but not perfect as far as I could tell. She had her free leg pretty close to the ice on at least one of them.

But now S/H have the "story". :sigh: I wish the Olympics and specially the ISU were more transparent... I did wonder why at one point their TES dropped from 77.61 to what it ended up being. That's more than a point's drop. I guess the lift was called L4 first, and then changed to L3.

S/M has a disparity, because aren't pair teams judged on how good the components are for both individuals?

S/H are clearly the best pair. The only pair where I can watch both of them and appreciate the beauty of their skating. Happy for S/M, but this is going to light a fire under them.

Frankly, people here are treating T/M like villains who were going to stole medals from the "good guys" and just needed to get out of the way. It's just awful. I'm really glad with the podium, especially S/M, but all the bashing over T/M since the last group begun to skate was sad.

I didn't really follow the comments during the last group as it was pretty hectic here,
But i assure you (Or hope at least) everybody here adores T\M, In case something different came across
And we're all waiting to follow their careers for much longer

I think mostly people were having a go at their FS music choice (And choreography style)
But that has been going on all season

Almost the Canadian version of Donald Trump only we know you are saying things jokingly. Hope you enjoyed the skating your Canadians did you proud. And your eye candy was still there - but Candyman wasn't.

On a side note - I really feel sorry for T and M so close (and Sui and Han). Aliona should buy everyone ice cream - well maybe nicer than that lol.

I can’t quite tell if that’s a compliment or an insult. I’m definitely no Donald Trump, though I AM politically orange, in the sense that I am a card carrying member of the NDP, who have the exact opposite political platform of the American republicans.... sooooo yea.

Politics aside, as this isn’t the place for them, I’m just a ridiculous, sarcastic, self deprecating, dark humour loving sort of person (most of the time), both online and offline. I say things out loud that most would keep in their head.

We were worry about Brunos safety yesterday but damn Cong...i hope it will be OK to go over it for both of them. Because today there was real chance for OGM.
How everyone could be so sure and calm about 2022? I just can't...it's 4 years from now, 4 YEARS. I mean how many times she has been injured just in last couple of years...and considering currently judging...it's a waaay long shot and today was the real chance so i can't feel any worse for them than today. Especially those 0,47...ohh dear Lord

I hope that my critism of their LP doesn't come off as critical or negative on them. Their SP was glorious, but their FS was not a good vehicle for their talent. They are too good to have to skate to that awkward of a program. I would not have been happy if that program had beaten several of the others but I never wanted to see them fall apart. In fact, what I hope most is that they use this as motivation and come back next year fiercer than ever (and with a program that shows off their strengths).

It's a masterpiece of a program. I just wish they hadn't changed the ending from the GPF, because then it starts with infinity and ends with her reaching out to the heavens.

But man, when Christopher Dean is good, Christopher Dean is very very VERY good.

I have just woken up and rapidly checked the results of the FS on the ISU webpage. I was so amazed seeing Aliona and Bruno won with 6 point margin that, all in nerves and hopes, I rushed to see the overall standings. When I found out they won, I literally started crying. I wanted her so badly to win that gold. I fell in love with Aliona and Robin when I first saw them live, winning their first European gold in Warsaw (if I recall correctly, it was January 2007) with a very emotional programme to the Mission soundtrack. Since then I always hoped they would win the OGM, which, unfortunately, never happened. Until today. Aliona, what a great example of character and hard work and dream-persecution to follow. You are my idol Congratulations!!!!!

The thing with T/M's program is, they're not some prisoners who had this program forced upon them and couldn't say 'no', I think they genuinely liked it and thought it was a good idea. Unless someone comes up with better programs that they like, or tells them to try something new even if they don't quite enjoy it, nothing will change. And I oh so hope it does change. They deserve better programs. I've said this earlier but if they end their careers without having that one program that fits them to a T and lands them among the figure skating greats (which they already are technically), I will be really angry

I really didn't believe this can actually happen. I was a fan of S/M in the past years, but I still doubted they will really win.
I guess many things have been already written here, so I will just say I am incredibly happy for Aliona and Bruno!!! I was crying with them Aliona finally has her very well deserved gold, I can't think of anyone else for whom I would've wished it more. Seeing their joy after the end of the whole competition was probably the happiest moment in my career of a figure skating fan. Also, I liked Meagan and Aliona together, that was really sweet moment.

Yea... so many things can happen in four years... they can fall out of favor with the judges, a la S/K and K/S and P/T. There's up and coming Russian junior pairs with triple-triple combinations. And the ISU is apparently devaluing quad throws, so the quad advantage is gone...

I can only hope from this point forward S/H will go with music choices that are truly themselves - sassy, fierce, confident, emotional, and not go for the "legacy" or the "tribute" or whatever. Do music that's never been done. Dare to innovate. It's time to write history., and while it won't be easy, I think S/H can do it. They have expressiveness that is simply unrivaled as of the moment.

Last remark for the night, I am very happy for Aliona. Totally, absolutely deserved it. Hopefully she'll help develop Germany's pairs program; they have some really nice novice and junior pairs.

Then they'll have achieved a lot anyway and can be proud.

There really has to be a point of time where we as fans need to stop being involved in sharing their disappointment. It's not good for us, because we can't do anything about it. The athletes themselves can, however, use the disappointment however they want. They can get motivated and fight through everything, or give up. I personally know what I'm hoping for, and I think I know I'm right about them.

Can we appreciate for a moment Duhamel and Radford's amazing achievement: the first ever quad throw landed at the Olympics.

With how they've pushed the technical side of the sport, nobody deserves that record more than they do. She's a superstar. Seeing her literally jump for joy on the podium was so uplifting! I thought they were key to setting the tone for the Canadian team in the team event, too.
