2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens FS

I know what you mean but I don't think that comparison is fair. We have huge sample size issues. I think it is much more likely that Yuzu is exceptional! Also, some things went in his favor (everyone messed up). I think you need: 1) timing to work out for your first Olympics to fall at the right time in your development, 2) a ridiculous once in a generation talent, and 3) some luck. That's a lot to ask for! :drama:

Lol, Yuzuru is Tara Lipinski and Sarah Hughes combined.

Damn. So this is what his team hasn't been telling us. He isn't fully recovered and still injured.

Effing amazing he was able to pull off another Gold.

Like him or not, he is real legend. 2-3 weeks of training and even with injuries be able to pull out that skate.

I think in Javier´s place you put to Shoma again

So he is not fully healed yet :sad21: From Jackie Wong's tweet:
"Hanyu: I don't know yet [about Worlds]. My ankle injury isn't healed, so I pushed it hard for this competition. There are some elements I can't perform because of it but I pushed myself to do them here."

Damn, please don't push it anymore for worlds. Just rest and let your body do what it can. No more 4Lz's this season....please.

I hope all this skipping Worlds stops this year. I want to see all the top guys competing at Worlds. I prefer that competition than this once in 4 years PR exercise.

Yuzuru and Shoma would go. Javier probably not. He skipped the last after-Olympic Worlds.

I think the 4Lo was probably never ready, though Brian said work-in-progress.

I hate how Ashley always criticizes Russian ladies skaters and Boyang but she says nothing negative about Nathan when he is basically only jump after jump. I mean, I am glad that he got his redemption, and he is soo young, but there is not much besides jumps.

Stylistically, the Russian ladies are not my cup of tea, but to call them out for not having actual programs is so disrespectful. I would choose programs packed with content over Ashley's posing on ice any day. She was unfair towards Boyang too. I didnt find his program to be any less artistic than Nathan's and he had better jumps...

Shoma doesn't have poor landing than Nathan. Nathan got tons of +2s for his poor landings. He has no flow whatsoever. His jumps don't deserve +2s. +1s are more like it. Shoma does have beautiful flow coming out of his jumps.

Agree, I was responding to the poster who thought Shoma was overscored while my observations were that Nathan was overscored even more while Jin was lowballed when his jumps looked better and he didn’t drop his TR. Sure, he is not the performer like Javi nor does he have PChan’s SS but at least he tried to attack the FS instead of staying cautious. That his GOE on jumps were lesser and his PCS was lower than Chen really stumped me.

Uno though did enough to at least convince me he could podium. If anything, his jump GOEs overall are a little poorer than Nathan but his flow out of jumps are indeed a nice feature.

Bit of sportmanship here. Skaters appreciate each other’s talents.

Nathan’s technical power is great, I have to give him that. But he needs to work on his artistry and mental toughness. He is making some progress but still quite rough around the edge. Hope that he will continue to develop from now on.

Re: the deal with Nathan being Yuzuru’s sole rival. Boyang has as good technical imo (minus the variety on jumps) as he has but better mentality. Shoma’s technical is much more iffy but he is better on artistry and mentality. I daresay both Yuzuru and Javi is better than him on all three main aspect, technical (they don’t have BV but they have GOE), artistry and mentality/consistency. Nathan has his jumps and his future looks bright but at the moment it is still very much a 5-way fight where he does not have the upper hand. no matter how much 2-way rivalry American media may lead people to believe I think Nathan himself should be most aware of his current position in the circuit.

huh, it doesn't sounds well that Hanyu is still injuired...

it's miracle he landed all of this quads he did

i don't understand patrick's scores.

edit: 4 judges gave him 8s in pcs and nobody gave anythig above 9.50. i mean - the podium finishers shouldn't have gotten anything above 9.00 then, right?

yuzuru got the medal he deserved this time. looks like he really wanted it.
