2018 Olympic Figure Skating Free Dance

Very gracious quote from Guillaume Cizeron:

💬 “It was a very emotional moment and we are very proud of our #silver medal. We knew that if we wanted to win we had to deliver a perfect performance. But Tessa and Scott were better.”

I have to say that Piper and Paul absolutely knocked that one out of the park!!!!
How pity they switched to that program just before Nationals, because man - it sure could gain them way more universal momentum happening. I think that the program was greatly character-driven, with nice balanced between slow and energetic sequences. As usually with them, love the musicality of their movement and great phrasing of it expressed by choreography. I mean, they served the attitude, but it was sublimeskating, with this aura of Old era Bond glamour and something tense, sensual added to the picture.

The opening lift really set the tone for the performance, and their step sequences were the best from last year's SC FD tango for me: sharp, well-rounded, polished, with quality and attention to the detail. But those cantilevers into the lift were total highlight - the ease of Paul's control of his position was insanely, Piper looked amazing, it was an athletic lift, but was so tastefully done, with elegance and flow... And I love that yet again they were able to fit into the image desired to certain extent, but still staying themselves in it; the program for me mixed in a quite balanced way the edge with intricacy, connection going between them. Piper was totally a Bond girl - I almost fainted after seeing that dress, so rare colour, but she looked extraordinary, splendid, rich and drawn all the spotlight from the arena. Paul was dashing as usual:luv17:

I said exactly the same thing in another post! They really stood out from the pack for me tonight. I hope the judges took note and we will maybe see a better result for them at worlds. I'm also in love with her new dress. Stunning.

I was hoping for Marie-France sweep... I’m more gutted for Madi and Zach than for P/C not winning. Congrats to V/M and P/C for the WR on the FD.

I've seen several performances of V/M and I cannot understand why people rate them so much. I'm not a Dance fan much myself. Maybe I'm bias because the first dance program I saw was the P/C program in Boston but I find it just very odd. I would compare V/M to someone like Ashley Wagner beating Asada/Kim at their peak.

Wooooah. V/M = Ashley Wagner ?! You have got to be kidding me.

Totally stand by my comments. Call me nuts all you want.

Edited because the board is acting up for me!

I was just surprised to read that! Canada is a waaaay bigger figure skating country than France, isn't it? I have the impression that most people in France don't care about figure skating at all, whereas it's one of the biggest sports in Canada.

Let me just note that the only person to give P/C any 9.50 in PCS and the most +2 GOE (4) was the Canadian judge, aka the President of Skate Canada.....

Obviously I think the standings were right, but I still think the optics on that are REALLY bad.

I had missed the first two Canadian teams' performances since I was out of the house, but I just watched them now (Thank you, CBC, for your awesome coverage!) and I was really impressed! :) Both teams should be proud of how they performed. Their programs were both excellent and well-executed. I thought that they both could have scored a bit higher, in fact. I love how character-driven Piper and Paul are. This is a much better program than their one from earlier in the season. It's a shame that they didn't switch earlier. Je Suis Malade really is such a great fit for Kaitlyn and Andrew - their signature program! They have wonderful presence and connection on the ice. Hopefully they will have great performances at Worlds too! :)

(which work perfectly well out of the country with Hola, fyi)

Gurl, are u okay?? Is baby okay?? :ghug:, it was quite a rollercoaster:), I am hyped as heck to see PSquared live in Milan, hopefully they will go!

Yup, we both made it out of ice dance just barely alive. Now I’m wide awake and giddy when I should be tired, and newdaughter is currently beating me up from the inside. Hopefully we can survive the final rodeo in ladies!

A thought stuck me that for Shibutanis two bronzes are having gold's value, two more golds for Virtue/Moir are... more gold (lol) and a perfect coup to their career, and a silver for Gabriella and Guillaume is only a beginning I feel.

I think Gaby and Guillaume's future is incredibly bright. We will all need shades!
