Shom Uno is a great competitor and a fighter : he was really tired, that's why he failed I guess.

What are you even talking about? Shoma was injured! He needed to skate so Japan could get three spots, nearly killed himself on the ice, and he is not a good competitior? His medals speak otherwise.

Hanyu got +2 on his 3As.
The first time you hear the words “underscored WR,” you think the person is nuts, but then you see one judge gave Hanyu’s 3A a +1 and you find yourself on Team We Sound Crazy, But Our Arguments Are Actually Legit.
91 PCS was way too high and also leaves Chen little room for growth in his scores. Which he actually needs. I am a fan of his and frankly he could have walked off the ice a third of the way through the free with the win, no questions asked. But that was not a 91 in PCS. It took Hanyu two years to get 20% growth in his PCS, and he actually had to improve to earn those adjustments. This... strains credulity a bit. It’s not Chen’s fault, exactly, but it doesn’t help him, it doesn’t reflect reality, and while I’m happy he won, I’m not happy about his PCS marks.

Yes, Shoma Uno is so bad at competing that he's been on the podium at every event this season and has never been worse than second. Held the record score of this season until tonight and has even Yuzuru Hanyu say that he's got nerves of steel and that Yuzuru can retire and doesn't have to worry about the future of Japan, because Shoma is there. This is the guy who carried Japan's men figure skating through this season in the absence of the Olympic Champion and World Champion. He's a horrible competitor alright.

you are comparing a flawless program vs a flaw/step out program, when Nathan does a clean FS with his 6 quads then we can truly compare....

like the men wouldn’t have fallen so much if they didn’t go for extreme jumps like 4Lz/F and 4Lo , Alina wouldn’t have fallen thrice if she front loaded and did toe combos like everyone else instead of doing technically the hardest program..

OMG, I even started praying to God to save this competition, and apparently someone up there listen to me, as Nathan managed to stay on his feet for all of his jumps, including the doomed 4Lz. Shoma's face after Vincent result was cute, and speaks volumes of this competition. I am glad he managed to stay on the podium. I love his program. I almost cried when I saw him falling on his quads. I have no idea what was he thinking, but he looked like he did not want to win this competition. Boyang broke my heart. I hope he comes back strong.

Well, do you remember when 70% of the total score was for figures? Skating has always evolved, and not always in a good way. The changes next year will be interesting to watch. And as for Nathan's free skate, and I think I've said this before, I prefer it to the over the top dramatic faces and movements that we sometimes see. As for PCS marks, I've never had any training in how they are determined so I am not one to judge or even compare. I could easily say that Kostner's PCS scores were way too high for the way she skated. I could say quite a bit about that. But, it's not my place, nor am I qualified to do so. Some people come across as knowing more than the judges. and I think many of these comments are quite unkind, unfair, and if some skaters read this forum--can be demotivating.
I also think that Nathan--at 18--and really just two years on the senior world stage (if I recall correctly) has a lot of time to develop his artistry if he so chooses to remain. I've been reading so many pages of Nathan bashing that I have a really bad taste in my mouth right now. Since when have we all become expert judges. Since when do we have the same vantage point as the judging panel. Having sat in a few live audiences at major US comps before, I can tell you that watching the same event live is far different than watching it on TV. I am happy to have watched the clean skates that I did, and I feel badly for those who didn't skate their best.

I think you're missing a few key pieces of information here. Yes, Shoma did not skate well at this competition, but his poor skates aren't a result of poor mental strength. The guy has been dealing with an injury and boot problems so poor skates were pretty much expected. If anything, Shoma has proven himself to be an even stronger competitor after this competition. He powered through that free skate despite having the odds stacked against him and the burden of an entire nation. He deserves so much respect.

That's a complete mess: I think the skaters were exhausted after the Olympic games' competition but that's really tough to follow all these failed programs; Chen did all his jumps but I've got a big problem with his artistry which I think is overrated compared to other top skaters.
