I became an ice skating fan after watching Alina. I was prepared to hate Zhenya on principle but after learning more and watching her I have the utmost respect, appreciation, and admiration for her. I don’t think it’s going to be Alina vs. Zhenya in the fandom, there is possibility to like both. Honestly this really doesn’t reflect on Alina/Zhenya as much as it does on Eteri. And now there is more room for both of them to shine in their own way.

To be honest, if we have to hate something, it should be corruption among judges and federations, and overscoring and underscoring of skaters.

Wow, I was not expecting anything other than more speculation and joking today since we’d run out of things to say until we heard more and boy have we heard more. This is crazy soap opera land now. I agree with the others that I hope that Med talks closely with a PR specialist about how to best respond and I’m excited to see her skate in the coming year with whiever her coach turns out to be. I doubt we’ll know the Truth for many years until we get someone from both camps publishing memoirs.

Because she has powerful connections. She can make it hard for her to find new coaches or get resources for training. And she can try to influence judges to downgrade her scores. Politics is important to an athletes success unfortunately and seems that Eteri has the political influence at the moment. Although I imagine rusfed is not happy with her current outburst.

From what is being said, Polina has some powerful backing of her own. She is more likely to be safe than a lot of other girls.

So it did not take long for the mudslinging from Eteri towards Med to begin. What else would you call revealing a statement to the media like that
towards one of your skaters past or present. Personally I don't believe it but I have no direct knowledge whether it is true or not.

Eteri needs to move on like Med has and call it a day.

I guess after this drama Zhenya can be out of Top5 at Rus Nationals. Rus Fed will choose someone else than (despite how she'll skate or Zheny can make mistakes )
SO I guess that will be a total disaster for Zhenya...

Not necessarily, I am sure Zhenya can deal with Russian politics, but if wanting to get beyond it, Canada is currently looking for a steady/reliable women's 3rd, as is Armenia, USA and others, so the possibilities could be endless.

I don't know if Medvedeva did the things Eteri is claiming, but I'm not sure I care either. Worse case scenario, she ghosted her coach and said something petty in a moment of immense disappointment. She's eighteen years old. I know in figure skating years that's grown, but in the rest of life she's still just a teenager. Both of those things are disappointing but understandable on a human level.

Eteri on the other hand is a grown woman who decided to smear a teenage girl on national television to save face. I don't care if Medvedeva did everything she says. I never had a strong opinion of her before, but now I know Eteri is truly a bully. I'm glad Medvedeva left her. I hope wherever she lands is a healthier atmosphere for her where she can grown and learn as both a skater and a young woman.
