2019 World Championships Free Dance

Piper GILLES / Paul POIRIER
Country: Canada
Music: Vincent (Starry Starry Night) by Don MacLean, Govardo
Choreography by: Carol Lane, Juris Razguliaevs
Costumes: Absolutely beautiful blue "Starry Night" dress for her (she even wears star barrettes, bles her); muslin collarless shirt with subtle paint stains and splatters with black pants for him. These are COSTUMES (and I mean that as a big compliment)
.......

OK, I'll 'fess up. I was profoundly disappointed the first time I saw this, because I thought it was the skating equivalent of an Oscar-bait performance; Podium Bait, if you will. Pretty, yes, but I also thought things like "dumbed down" and "pandering" and "sentimental." Shoot me; I can a tough judge. But as the season progressed, this program has not only really grown, it has really grown on me, to the point where I think it's a very good attempt to keep their quirkiness but also to make it more accessible. Compromise is not always a dirty word. :)

Le Sigh.

Score: 120.48
I think Worlds IS the Oscars, because the fan favorites...at least my faves P2 are getting shafted. Where is the Golden Globes version of Worlds? I guess it was 4CC.

Get your skating house in order Mr Djkema. The judging panel needs a stern talking to. Bring a wooden spoon.

Did Andrew go shopping in Steve Jobs’ closet for this costume? Why did I not notice this before?

Meh, I mean, he could show up in a paper bag and I’d be swooning.

Whatever is left of my emotions gets now thrown into my Russian support!
Давай, Ivan, Sasha, and especially Nikita and Vika!!!
But good luck to WeaPos as well!

Vincent was never appreciated in his lifetime, was he?

I'm still bawling over here, twizzle mistake or no

Correct. Van Gogh had so much more to give too- he died at only 37 by taking his own life. Poor man suffered from mental illness for the majority of his life :(

I love them but I just can't get into this program. It makes me feel bad because I know how much this program means to them since it honors Denis but it just seems like pretty movements to sappy music. I just don't feel their connection to the music.

And that, to me, is all kinds of awesome. The stillness, in the midst of grief—I think nobody does emotion like WP.

Twizzles getting teams already... Twizzles aside that was top notch, but well I need emotional recovery time after Starry, Starry Night

Another Canadian team, another stunning program! Compared to the previous teams, I felt like Kaitlyn and Andrew had much more speed, ice coverage, and flow. Alas, the twizzles are never their strong point. Otherwise, I thought that they skated quite well. :)
