Men's Short Program

Re: overscoring - I don't think so. Oda scored high because of his GoEs - and he scored as high at SA, only his scores were lower there because he had mistake on 3F in SP and his 3A was downgraded in LP (plus he had a footwork stumble).

Well, OK. In 2nd for now. But Verner wasn't brilliant either.
Well the scores showed what was obvious, that Takahashi was going to win on PCS. It's a good program but he looked nervous and rushed.

:rolleye::rolleye: Right, I will repeat what I said last year, remind when Takahashi in the SP, Oda in the SP, Oda in the LP, ever get those scores like that ever again without a quad. When that happens I might listen, until then well I am still waiting.

Also, no Oda did not have any mistake in his SP at Skate America 2006 at all, and his score there was more inline with his absolute highest realistic without a quad; and in the long even without the mistake you refer to it would have been nowhere near NHK.

BTW arent you from Japan?

Yes, he did look like that, I agree. If Tomas's prog was perfect, I wouldn't say a word. It was a very good and strong one, Tomas was very convincing, but he wasn't perfect. But ok, fine, he'll bomb it tomorrow.

Verner's short program is amazing! I really love it - the first minute is not that good, he is doing the jumps and it does not really go with the music - but after that, amazing!

I agree with 100%. I just love the second part of the program. I think he should put some choregraphy between the jumps and it would be a masterpice.

I had not yet had a chance to see Verner this season, but wow. This may be my favourite SP of the season. I LOVE it. He really interprets and expresses the jazz well. Spins need some work, but overall I'm really impressed.

Wow!!!!!!! Good for Tomas Verner! Takahashi is not a consistant LP skater. It will be a test for him. Of course, Verner is not a consistant LP skater either.

Hopefully if Verner wins NHK, Van Der Perren withdraws from the GP final with some wierd cold or something so Verner gets to go instead. A skater like Van Der Perren does not belong in that event. He is a wasted spot who lucked out. The spot could actually be used on a good skater instead.

What if Lambiel is forced to withdraw with some "weird cold". Wishing bad luck on skaters because they're not your favorite is bad karma for your favorite.

I wouldnt care if Lambiel withdrew right now. He is jumping like a novice ladies skater (2 clean triples like his supposably improved Cup of Russia included is about on par with a decent novice ladies competitor probably) right now and giving away events to other skaters. It isnt much fun to watch him compete right now anyway.

I just dont think Van Der Perren is worth a spot in the GP final. He isnt competitive with any of the other men there. Lambiel's 2-
clean triple LP at Cup of Russia even still outscored Van Der Perren's best possible performance he is capable of at Skate Canada in the LP. It would be nicer to see a competitive skater like Verner there instead.

Verner's performance at TEB was competitive? Ryan BRADLEY beat him!

Van Der Perren scored over 200 in both his events. Verner scored 189 at TEB. Why is he any better than VDP? At least Kevin is consistent.

If you keep venting at VDP, the skate gods will take revenge....

Verner had a bad event at TEB. A bad event does not make a bad skater. You mention even Bradley beating him, but even Bradley beat Weir at U.S Nationals last year too. Weir had a bad event there just like Verner had at TEB, it happens. He is back to the normal Verner here and it is much better and more competitive then anything VDP could dream of putting out.

At Nebelhorn this year, Verner won the SP with a score of 73+, then tanked so bad in the FS that he was beaten by Shaun ROGERS, who finished 8th at 2007 US Nationals. Then Verner won Finlandia with a score of 189, just beating Parker Pennington, who finished 7th at 2007 US Nationals.

So far this season, Verner has skated well in the SP but not in the FS.

Win or go home. Internet skating forums don't get to vote. Van der Perren deserves to go the the final (so far, LOL) because he won silver at Canada and 4th in France. If you want to beat him, you have to beat that.

If Verner won the gold medal, he'd have 20 points, not enough to beat KVDP for the final, AND by moving Dakahashi down to 2nd place, Verner would also ensure that no one else could push VDP out of the final.

So if Verner finishes first or second, then Kevin Van Der Perren makes it to the final.

Brian Orser had a good quote in 94-95 when he commentated for CTV. Regarding certain skaters he said "if you take out all of the jumps what is left". I ask that question about Van Der Perren, if you take out all the jumps what is left? Pretty much nothing of any value would be left, ugly slow spins, slow tedious footwork, heavy and clunky skating.
