Hi, Finnish and Swiss Nationals took place over the weekend, although not confirmed these should be chosen for the upcoming European championships.

Finland

Ladies:

Laura Lepisto (well done!! National Champion)
Kiira Korpi
Susanna Poykio (I hope Susanna is ok, i heard she withdrew from NHK, I hope she is not injured, had a poor free skate)

Jenni Vahamaa was at Junior Grand Prix Final, should imagine she will be chosen for Junior World Champs.

Alisa Drei was not on roster, possibly at 29 now she has retired, the other girls seem to be surpassing her.

I should imagine who ever is the top 2 in Euro's out of Lepisto, Korpi or Poykio will go on to world's

Mens

Mikko Minkkinen (new national champion well done!!))

Should be chosen for first euro's

Swtzerland

Ladies

Sarah Meier (Class of her own really)
Viviane Kaser (interesting to see if swiss federation send her to euros but she should go she was 2nd and swiss have 2 spots)

Mens

Stephane Lambiel (Again well above the rest)
Moris Pfeifhofer (was 2nd)
Jamal Othman (was 3rd)

Difficult one for the federation to send out of Pfeifhofer and Othman to join Lambiel, I would have thought they would send Pfeifhofer to Euros with Lambiel and then chose Othman to join Lambiel at worlds and send Pfeifhofer to Junior worlds - we shall see but that's what I would have done.

Finland's Euro team will be Korpi, Lepistö and Vähämaa. Top two in Euros will go to worlds.

Susanna has problems with back, she has several fractures in her discs and hasn't been able to train properly for two months. Alisa Drei hurted her knee in Skate Canada and pulled out from Nationals because of that injury.

Edit... Jenni Vähämaa was chosen for junior worlds with Alisa Mikonsaari (Finland's new junior champion, born 1993) and Sofia Otala (who did quite well in junior GP, born 1990)

Thanks lumi for the update, such a shame for Susanna she looked good earlier on and looked destined to challenge for the gold medal at European's, do you think they might chose Susanna for Worlds if she heals in time?? she has been the one who has got them the 2 spots, Korpi will need to step up in order to secure 2 important spots for 2009 worlds.

No, I don't believe they will pick Susanna for Worlds. She din't score high enough for Europeans. Kiira or someone else has to earn the spots.

Susanna was in stunnig shape at the beginning of the season, but maybe it is better for her to stay at home and take care of herself. Her performances in Cup of China and in nationals were really painful to look at. :(

Actually, Switzerland has three spots because Sarah was second last year. Though I don't know if they really will send three girls to Zagreb.

Sarah really was a class of her own. The difference between her and the other girls was very big: http://www.smelite08.ch/cmsimple/result/index.htm.

Sarah's result is extremely good when thinking the fact that according to the Swiss newspapers she actually fell so badly at the Thursday's practice that she could not sit or drive a car after that. Then she fell once in the SP on Friday and couldn't hear anything with one of ears after that but apparently and luckily it went over. On Saturday she fell again badly at the practice and had difficulties to get up from the ice. She started at the LP with the help of pain killers. Despite that she landed 4 clean triples.
