Aww did they gave to show poor Sasha S's fall? Rude
Mark of bravery. During the Moskvina’s gala Tran’kov said that while everyone else competed in men’s category, Samarin competed in Real Men category. Heh. But you remind me my mom, who complained that during medal ceremony replays Ch 1 had edited out Kolyada’s fall from highlights, but focused on Mozalev’s.

As I said—in the heat of the moment. I want Mozalev to do what he considers right for himself. I will watch him in the Cup of Russia if that’s what he wants to do. Voronov and Kvitalashvili both did well with Tutberidze. The growing guys, absolutely, categorically not. And, well, lots of girls in that group are basically his age. And one of those girls wears the same color medal he does, but will represent Russia in EC.

As for 4F, they carried it too far as is. But he now pulled an unlucky ticket of training as if he is going without going, so that is not exactly trauma-free proposition.
To be fair almost everyone gets injured, it's just that guys who are injured at Tutberidze's seem to quickly end up quitting or finding another coach. It seems like they aren't given a chance to recover.
Voronov did get injured at Sambo-70 (though of course it's normal to rack up a few injuries here and there in such a long career) and switched back to CSKA after some meh results. The Tut period wasn't particularly exceptional in terms of result.
Morisi luckily never got any big injuries. Maybe just one of those lucky dudes.

I thought Voronov was in the GPF with Tutberidze?

Edit: oh, yes, Uno tactfully refused to train there and went to Lambiel

Sokolovskay then? But did she ever work with the guys who are more PCS and SS oriented vs jumps?

Yes. Also he made GPF twice afterwards under Buianova, and in his earlier Urmanov/Morozov phase he was on the podium at RusNats and making Worlds team several years running (during the late Plushenko era!)... Skating grandpa careers sometimes resist straightforward analysis...
I miss him. Looking forward to seeing how Kaz team does with him at the helm!

Omg, Davydenko wishing everyone Happy New Year from a hole in the ice of a frozen river after sauna. It’s a reference to the timeless Soviet New Year classic about a guy who goes to sauna with his buddies on New Year’s Eve, gets drunk, flies to St. Petersburg from Moscow and hilarity ensues.

I... Would rather Mozalev stayed with his current coach? His FP is getting more consistent so he just needs a clean SP then he'll be getting medals and improving his reputation (and thus PCS).

I just really don't understand his GOE scores? His 4T+3T is so good when it's landed but he only got +2s and +3s in France and still mostly +3s in Russia. I thought maybe men's scoring is just tougher than women's but then Kondratiuk gets similar GOEs for rather less nice looking jumps. What did Mozalev do to make judges hate him like his name is Wakaba Higuchi?

I hope they give him Worlds at least. Mishin was smart to use his influence points against the guy who doesn't have a coach on the coaches council rather than Eteri who dominates women's.

Also why did Mozalev only have one GP this season? Isn't he reigning junior world champion???

Also, sorry for the gloom. :(

Everything you have written in the paragraphs after the first one is why I was sighing about ‘if only he was with Tutberidze’.

For me, the most ideal scenario, is, of course, that he delivers 4T-3T 4S as clockwork starting in October 2021, but imo with the fall from 4S and 3A, he still should have been silver medallist and on Eu team. He is the only one from 12 Russian medallists who doesn’t have a famous coach. And he has such a wonderful team around him. But there you go. No silver, no Eu.

Mozalev’s 1 GP might actually has been training related vs intrigues because he did not gain early in the season. He was falling badly in the Cup of SP, and he was tip-toeing into jumps in Ice Star. Or, at least, I hope it wasn’t an effort to get rid of him. It’s hard for me to keep faith with RusFed in regards to Mozalev, but they are the only ones who could prop his career at this stage, because with his SB and no Eu/Oly/WC he will not qualify for GP next year on his own. Good thing they show CoR.

And they are not going to give Mozalev this worlds, the only worlds where a Russian man could hope to medal, and they will quote the same reasons. Unstable SP and lack of international experience.

I would much rather the situation where you have to drop everything and run to a certain coach for mushrooms or there is no hope be eliminated from women, not extended to men, where it's nowhere near as bad yet.

@lariko maybe this will cheer you up. In addition to the CoR final at the end of February, there will also be another instalment of the Channel One Cup from 5-7 March in Sochi. Both of these events will give Mozalev (and hopefully some of the dark horses) the opportunity to once again put their best skating out there. And even if it doesn't work out for Mozalev with this year's Worlds, he will be safe and sound in the National Team and get his funding for next season. He is still young, his time will come. :console:
Also, I don't agree that a post-Olympic Worlds is the only Worlds where a Russian man could hope to medal. Just look at the first year seniors and juniors coming up through the ranks. They are like diamonds in the rough. With a bit of international exposure and hard work, I believe anyone of them could challenge for a Worlds medal in a couple of years. Why not?

I honestly dunno. They demonstratively excluded Mozalev from Moskvina’s gala, so… Ch1 Cup, who knows 🤷‍♀️ Maybe? I really hope they confirm CRF sooner rather than later, so I worry less and I did breathe sigh of relief that he made sub list. But even if someone WD, I won’t be surprised if they picked Samarin before Mozalev, quoting the same lack of international experience. hopefully he doesn’t get left out the National Team next year. He’s almost 19, so if it’s not next year, the forecast will be less positive. Between his age and level of representing Russia in international events, he is not going to secure release to another country either, like the other skaters.

Oh, yeah, for sure, there are a lot of talented guys in next generation & we’ll see. Fingers crossed for so many of them! But if they treat Mozalev this way, would they treat, say, Popov any better?

On the scale of 1 to 10, how likely do you think it would happen, and who would initiate, let alone accomplish such a feat?

You mean in women? It'll happen eventually with a 100% probability since nothing lasts forever, but it won't be easy to prise open Eteri's iron grip on mushrooms. Zhilina could potentially do it but fighting Akatieva's PR will be an extremely uphill battle. In the younger generation, Titova looks promising. The girl is a little terminator and she has nobody like Akatieva in Eteri's camp to deal with. A lot depends on what Plushenko (and possibly Yana) can squeeze out of his connections to grab his own mushroom basket. Davydov doesn't seem to be able to politick for his girls unfortunately so I am not very hopeful unless CSKA takes an interest in women's skating again.

No, that it wouldn’t take hold in men. Honestly, if i didn’t have emotional investment in Mozalev, it would have been the best drama I had seen on TV all year.

Well I'm against Mozalev going to Eteri not because people say, but rather the opposite, I don't want to read comments like "he received his points only becasue of the name of the team leader"

Nevertheless, I think such talks are only academical, didn't notice any sign he would consider moving elsewhere.

On the opposite, he was adamant that he was staying. I would have loved all the comments just fine if I get to cheer for him in GP, Eu and Worlds. Totally fine with the whole, omg, Trusova has too much PCS and UR! I much rather not see the comments about ‘eh, that’s too bad. Cool spread eagle tho’ or my personal favourite, during the gala, “as we know, New Year is when all dreams come true, so we are wishing Andrei only wins next year’. Could they at least not make fun of the kid?

Are you sure they were making fun of him? Sounds like a sincere wish to me.

I agree. He just need to work on his SP. He has everything a good (or a great, even) skater needs, and he has been steadily improving his FS with every competition this season.
When Mozalev started this season I didn't even think he would be able to snatch a bronze at the nationals. Honestly, I was rather devastated becuase he had a couple of dissapointing skates before he began to improve. Now? I'm so happy to see him with his bronze.

Given the circumstances, I thought it sounded like mockery. But then again, I am worried and upset. I was told not to get attached to juniors and watch seniors instead, but I am starting to think, I should just watch juniors. I am not in the mood to watch Europeans tbh.
