Why would Russian Fed even consider using anyone else but Kamila in the SP of the team event? She has been by far the best SP performer this season, she guarantees Russia the win there no matter what while Scherbakova or Trusova are both beatable in the SP.
Yes exactly, Sakamoto/Higuchi and even Young You all have a non-insignificant chance of outscoring Anna or Sasha in the SP whereas its clear based on the scores that Kamila will outscore everyone else even with a fall on 3A in the short. The free, any of them even with a terrible free skate will outscore Sakamoto/Higuchi easily so they can afford to give Anna/Sasha a gold.

Can they do that? At this point, I say definitely put Kamila in the SP and give the LP to Anna. But if Sasha is hitting 5 quad LP's in Olympic practice, then put her in instead of Anna.
In Sochi they changed the decision and let Yulia to skate the free although originally Adelina was intended to skate the free, so I guess it is possible. Though the SP skaters should be decided before as the team event starts the first day already. Kamila for the SP is a sure thing but I guess the FS will be left open for some time yet.

I hope they dont repeat the thing they did with yulia in 2014 and let kamila do both team events and the individual one. For yulia it cost her her individual medal. Because doing 4 programms is a lot

Would they really base it off of practice though? Trusova has very little issues with doing her layouts in practice but she has yet to do a FS in competition with more than 2 quads cleanly in awhile **Edit to add based off the competitions I can remember off the top of my head

Plus, Anna has been consistently loyal to Eteri. When the "3A" split up and Sasha was the first to bolt from TeamTut, later followed by Alyona, Anna stayed and remained loyal to Eteri. If a decision were to be made between Anna/Sasha for a likely Olympic TeamEvent medal possibly gold, I think Eteri will back Anna for the spot. As she should. So few people are loyal these days. It is one of the myriad reasons that I respect and root for Anna. She is a class act. She deserves the spot.

I don't know if loyalty will play into it or if it should, but what is the tiebreaker when you have 3 amazing athletes all of whom are likely to be amazing and capable of winning their segment even if they are less than perfect. There's 2 possible spots in the team event and 3 amazing athletes available, its going to stink for whoever gets left off.

Personal opinion - I would give the nod to Shcherbakova: 3 time National champ, current world champ, won both her GP events this year, Euros silver. The only time she has ever lost to Trusova as a senior was at Nationals this year.

There's no way Kamila sits out of the team competition. She's proven herself to be Russia's #1 and deserves to skate for the Russian team more than anyone else in any discipline. It makes no sense to rob her of any medal, let alone an Olympic one.

If they split the ladies, Kamila will do the short. No one has gotten close to any of her SP scores all season. If anything, Anna would be doing the free as she was less than a point behind Kamila's free at Euros. But if they wanted to have Kamila skate both, she more than deserves it, as much as I would love for Anna to have an Olympic gold.

Exactly this.
Kamila will skate the SP or both, anything else is ridiculous. For the FS, if it's between Anna and Sasha, Anna should be the clear choice. Even if she were to skate her layout without any quad (which she won't), she still performs 3(!) 3-3 combos reliably, the judges love her, she gets showered in PCS and GOE and she has proven more than any other lady in recent times, except for maybe Evgenia pre-2018, that she delivers under pressure. Please remind me when Anna has ever had a true meltdown skate in recent years. She's reliable. Sasha has proven the exact opposite during her entire senior career.
And Anna, even with a supbar performance by her/Russian standard, for example falling on her 4F and delivering the rest of her still extremly difficult and smartly constructed program, that is still more than any lady she'll go up against can dream of and she should come in 1st, which is all they need at the end of the day.
On the other hand you imagine Sasha's FS with her usual 1-3 falls and maybe a pop sprinkled on top, the judges will not go with her, neither on GOE nor on PCS.

I wish all 3 could be in the event, since all 3 of them deserve the potential Team Gold so much more than some other members in there, who will be carried to it by, in large part, precisely the two ladies who will get the chance to skate.

Exactly. Plus, she will want to guarantee herself a gold medal. You just never know what will happen in the individual event. Anna from Russian Nationals 2020 could show up. Also, Alexandra from test event may show up. Kamila could miss her 3As and finish in third. If that happens, both Anna and Alexandra end up with gold medals from the team event with another earning a second gold in the individual event, leaving Kamila with a bronze medal. I don’t think so. The team event SP will be a good practice for her and there is no reason why she isn’t interested in winning two gold medals just to be nice.

I think it wouldn't be a problem for Kamila. The issue for Julia was that, with the Olympics in Russia, she couldn't escape the limelight after she became the star of the team event. Kamila won't be under the same pressure competing outside her home country.

Will Team Tut leave any of the three main coaches behind for this or are they all headed to Krasnoyarsk camp. Or when does that start?
