But why? I still don't get the reasoning behind it. Misha was treated as the leader of the Russian team the past two seasons, I wonder what changed RusFed's mind. Gosh, how I despise all this behind-the-scenes politicking.
He was never a favorite of the Fed to begin with. And his best season, result-wise, was also the worst season at the Olympics for Russia because they lost the TE because of him. Basically. He’s also treated as though he doesn’t train enough, doesn’t land enough quads, doesn’t smile enough for the camera or play it up for TPTB.

Russia didn't lose the Team Even because of Kolyada. Or rather not only because of him.
Actually he probably did. In all of the other segment Rus finished top or in the top 3. Kolyada finished 8th in the SP. He was very capable of finishing at least 2nd which was at 88 points by an Israel skater, hardly an impossible ask considering his season best was over a 100. That would have given them 6 more points and bumped Canada down a point. The total for both team would then be equal.

Why not going to Olimpics then?
RusFed actually made the best decision by replacing him, they could not ensure with certainty that his test would be negative in time, in addition there are no clear reports on how Kolyada experienced the disease, perhaps he had mild symptoms but losing more than a week of training is difficult to retrieve. Maybe if the men's singles event was the last one they could consider it, but since it's the first event right after the team final there is no chance. Hopefully he can show he's still in contention at future worlds and maybe fight for a medal.

I think these profile images look pretty cool.

Glad to hear that everyone tested negative!

some of these photos really look like mugshots

about Misha not going to olympics the key word is now. He tested positive now, and we also know how strict china is with covid tests, some people that tested negative home tested positive with chinese parameters. he's back to training now, after several weeks of stop and he's also dealing with post covid issues i guess, how could he be ready to skate at Olympics with so little time and in his conditions? i like a good cospiracy as the next girl but this time i don't think there's one

Gosh it feels like they never even wanted him to go...

They are like, ow look we have Mark now.
Yeah, Bazin and Samokhin missing training, non-arrival of Moskvina and S/B, the disappearance of Danny G, Kogan getting lost in the taiga — all a complete mystery. Kolyada — real-time COVID bulletin, the Fed is a paragon of openness and transparency.

The Fed always wanted tech, for the rest they have magic mushrooms. They were pushing Kolyada into five quads as soon as his second senior season. It's just they couldn't find anyone who actually delivered. They were counting on Samarin but he didn't pan out. Now they have their new hope Mark. But it still doesn't explain such an abrupt dropping of him. To #2, sure, but not off the team.

He didn't come back to training after several weeks off the ice, he was training before testing positive for COVID, jumping quads.

Mark attended the special training session for participants of the team event.
Love the action shot there, go Mark!

I guess this means he's doing the Team event for sure. I need to get my little origami Mark K elf for good luck!

It all starts tomorrow and I have Friday and all of next week off so I can catch all the action (originally I was going to work next Wednesday and Friday since the events will be on in the evening, but my work colleagues told me to treat myself  )

Looking forward to hanging out with you all in the competition threads!
