Mark, first of all, big congratulations! It seems to me that from the first seconds of your performance, all spectators, including those who watched the competitions on TV, received a good emotional charge from you. What do you say, what are your personal comments?
- Repeat the last sentence, please.
What do you say, what are your personal comments?
- In general, I'm probably satisfied with the performance. The only thing that did not work out was to show the ease of skating, but this affects nervousness. All jumps and some elements were somehow twitchy. But I am glad that at least in this form I managed to perform these elements and jumps. This is more important than ease of riding, especially in team events.
Alexei Yagudin said in his report that he corresponded with you the day before. Did it help you, or, on the contrary, did it distract you?
- So it helped!
And how did he support you, what did he say?
- These are the things that athletes understand. This is a personal correspondence, so no [I will not tell]
Okay. You, as it turns out, opened the Olympics for our skaters. Did it add some responsibility - that you are the first member of our team to go on the ice?
-I thought about it when I went out for a six-minute warm-up - and immediately tried to forget about it. Because why should I worry?
In one of the interviews after the European Championship you said: “A miracle happened” after winning this competition. Could you even imagine that this season you will win the Russian Championship, the European Championship and even come to the Olympics?
-Not. I'm just saying this honestly. No.
Well, what about the excitement, after all, the Olympics is a unique chance for every athlete. Is there excitement?
- Yes, of course, there is excitement, and if you think all the time that this is the Olympics, this happens once every four years, I am in the team, this is my chance - this only complicates the task. Therefore, it is necessary ... I can’t speak for others, only for myself - I just try to think that this is the same start as the European Championship, like the Russian Championship, like a test skate. That is, globally, nothing changes - the same ice, the same rink, the same spectators. If I think like that, then it's easier for me.
Nervousness, of course, is added by all these restrictions associated with covid, this whole situation. What do you say about it, how do you deal with it?
-Unfortunately, in our time in the world such a difficult situation. There are two options - either observe the precautions and perform, or do not comply and do not perform. In my opinion, the answer is obvious.
Undoubtedly. And there is little time left for rest, how will you restore your strength before the next performance?
-I do not know yet. After the next performance, I will tell (laughs)
How did you recover before that? Well, good luck with all my heart and health. The main thing is health.
