I am glad they did what they did, and good luck to all the women (and other athletes) in individual competition.

I don't wanna get ahead of myself but MAYBE this can turn into a Sotnikova situation for them. She was also left out of the Team Event in Sochi, was extremely disappointed and she herself has stated that this fueled her. And, leaving aside her placement, she did have the skates of her life at the individual event.
I hope Anna and Sasha can use this to put some extra fire in their bellies.

RusFed decided to save on 12 mln Roubles & 3 MB/BMW's that they are supposed to give to the OGMs.
Bravo to Kamila who is the superstar of that team event and a new olympic champion.

It still pains me to see that there’s no spectators, the ambiance should be indescribable and cherfull but it’s worst than skate test.

Except the only reason Sotnikova's skate of her life paid off was because poor Lipnitskaia came apart in the individual event.
If today is any indicator though, it looks like the Russian ladies are slamming the door on any prospects of problems letting someone else sneak in the podium.

Not having Anna and Alexandra in the team event might actually work in their favor. Anna is landing 3 quads in practice. Trusova basically 5. I think this put a fire in them and hopefully will translate to the individual event .

Gosh I hope so they both look so strong I would love for them to both beat Kamila, too bad only one can get gold.
Does anyone have the base value of the girls free skates? Assuming clean and level 4s?

That's what I was thinking about too! It's not just medals that other skaters were denied, it's a huge chunk of money too!
I vaguely remember discussions around IDF that Shcherbakova's BV of her FS with 3 quads would make it come down to PCS and GOEs if both her and Valieva are clean to determine who wins. And Valieva has botched a jump in her last 2 FS's, but additionally while I have learned to never count out Shcherbakova, she hasn't done a 3 quad program in competition in 2 years
Assuming all clean, no URs, no edge calls and all level 4s:
Kamila: 86.07
Anna: 87.58
Sasha: 96.49
This goes off the layouts they showed in Olys practice (and the team event free for Kamila).
That’s what I figured, I feel like all the girls are on a pretty level playing field base value-wise, which is good. I personally hope Sasha can win, definitely think she needs the 3A and all 5 quads though. It would be nice redemption for Sasha and Anna to go clean and beat Kamila.
Well just going by this, looks like Anna would need mistakes from Kamila as she will have SP advantage. If Sasha went completely clean short and long, do you think she could challenge a clean Kamila? Or are her GOE/PCS just too high for Sasha to overcome?
I would strongly recommend adding both SP and FP BV as Kamilla and Sasha get a boosts from 3A of 3.93
Even with mistake or a fall Kami can still score +260
Sasha never get that score and Anna only for nationals, never internationally.
So yeah, both have to skate clean with their full difficulties to beat Kami.
I hope Kami will have enough time to rest, she’s going to compete without her full potential but she’s a fighter and was uterly upset with her performance today.

No. Even with a 3A in the SP and a completely clean FS (a constellation she has never produced in her entire career), I cannot see Sasha overcoming Kamila, since her GOE and PCS are just so much lower (and imo rightfully so.)
Anna with this layout could definitely beat Kamila, but unfortunately she does not have this layout.
And that's the simple explanation why Kamila is winning. Anna has the performance component the win, Sasha has the technical component to win, Kamila has both.
+ a reputation and momentum bonus she has established for herself over this season, including and especially here in the Team Event.
Edit: I would love for people to stop complaining that Kamila doesn't perform or emote. That was the case last season, but anybody who has actually watched the Team Event should have seen that she is trying her absolute outmost to interpret the music. Including facial expression, being on the music, finishing the movements into her fingertips etc. The "issue" is just that she has a generic and lyrical SP and a completely nonsensical FS. She is a snake skating to Bolero ...
- I for once would not have a clue as to which facial expression I am supposed to be emoting there.In contrast Anna's FS is dramatic and climactic and actually based on a fictional character she can portray. Same goes for Sasha's theme, which is sassy and agressive. Those are much easier to interpret imo.
