I have balloons, and I am making carbonara… judging by the recipe, it should put me into semi-comatose state about 16 minutes after ingestion. Which will permit viewing of man’s figure-skating. Like, I thought figure-skaters all subsisted on chicken breasts and shrimp-shell broth…how’s Mozalev even ended up in the same neighbourhood of pasta with bacon and cheese?
carbonara is not my favourite pasta (i know, i'm the shame of my race) but if he skates clean i'll make it in his honor and yours of course. men sp is happening in the middle of the night, so tomorrow morning i'll know if i have to buy pork jowl bacon or not

Mozalev said he eats it rather rarely, so... It's probably not that bad :ROFLMAO: And he also mentioned he liked bliny (crepes?) so you can try making them next! 🤣
If there is one thing I am not going to make, it’s that, because I have a sneaking suspicion that he likes the meat stuffed ones, and, yeah, not even for Mozalev (okay, if he is on the Olympic or World podium, suuuure)… the kind of dedication that is required to make that died out with my grand-mother’s generation.

oh help he's from south Tyrol so maybe canederli?

 maybe it's better if we make it easier, Strudel?
I am saving Strudels if Yablokov-Malinin happens 😅 so, Semmelknodel it is! Husband really loved carbonara and had three plates of it; I am in the carb-induced coma… I think I can take even IdF level of ‘oh no’ in the short now.

Well I hope the ice has better quality than at IdF :tantrum:

If it’s a combo of Tallinn’s ice for the short, and French—for the free, that would be ideal ice condition. I'll go... I dunno... lie down and visualize two clean(ish) programs by Mozalev in the same competition, and that competition is Olympics in 2022... until the harsh reality interferes.

After seeing the short track speed skating I'm a bit worried about the ice! It really takes a beating in that event.

I'm sure the officials know what they're doing...I hope!

judging by the score page there won't be any need for Semmelknodel

I wish someone got through to the majority of Russian coaches and the Fed that working on skating quality and PCS is not a waste of time and you can't make it to the top without them. Especially as none of the guys have Chen-level tech or even the potential for such.

ETA: I don't know if they are expecting a magical breakthrough as in women who simply can outjump everyone by a mile (quints?).

I think they always hope they can get a set of jumps from someone (3 different quads, one of them senior quad) which would put them in the podium mix. After all is said and done, it is not unreasonable goal on a current technical level. Unfortunately, everyone who reaches for it, breaks in the process. I think they relaxed that requirement down to stable with two lower quads when Semenenko nearly took himself out trying to jump 4F to complete his aspired for 3 quad set…

But I expect Samarin, Erokhov, Ignatov, Lutfullin and Yablokov all fight to show the 3-quad set in CRF, and probably Semenenko and Kondratyuk as well starting next season.

It’s different than women, of course, because there is no obvious jumping prodigy in Russia, but with Kagiyama and Malinin coming in next quad, they will continue looking for 3 quads. I don’t think they can do anything else.

But Kagiyama and other Japanese men can somehow jump quads and have good skating skills. These are not mutually exclusive. And neither are jumps and ballet/dance lessons. This is the baffling thing. I heard an interesting story. Someone whose child was in both groups said that in Chebotareva's group ballet/dance was compulsory every day, in Mishin's group it was voluntary. The difference in results is painfully obvious. But it was never "you can either go to ballet or jump for another hour" because ice time is limited.

It’s not a matter of choice for Tutberidze’s team, I think. So, if they want to replicate the success of women… but I think that ‘somehow’ is an important piece. On the whole, the Russians seem to exist in the ‘best of the lot’ space for now. I mean, the obvious experiment they should probably try is to let Kolyada skate with one quad, and they did let Samarin and Aliev to skate lighter programs in GP… so maybe we’ll see it in the worlds?

But so far, even with Kolyada, and he is the best, there is simply no degree of perfection and audience engagement that is the best in class internationally. (With my apologies to charming Kondratyuk).

I don't get it how a nation, which had skaters like Yagudin, Plushenko, Abt, doesn't really care about the programs anymore. I mean, with the exception of Tatiana Tarasova, the skaters today even have the same coaches as those skaters back then.
