2023-24 Programs by Discipline

In my opinion, Hallelujah is a great song, wonderful melody, unusual lyrics with a meaning. Seems like the reasons why people hate it are that there is too much of it with all the different versions, it's overused in skating in particular and, also, it's often used with the wrong meaning in mind/not really understanding the true meaning (that is, as a purely religious song praising God and Jesus). Okay, maybe you and some other people don't like the lyrics or something, but even then you have to admit that the melody is great if you are being objective about it, it's just that you have heard it too many times and often used in a wrong way.

In an interview Denis said that 'Hallelujah' feels personal for him. So most likely he wanted to skate to 'Hallelujah', not so much to Thomas Feiner. Perhaps he liked Feiner's version exactly because it's darker - who knows. Or he was offered this version by Bourne and it resonated with him.

What is rock, in your opinion? Only heavy and hard rock? Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple? Jimi Hendrix? Metal? Metallica and Iron Maiden? Perhaps Kiss? Bon Jovi?

Maneskin have more rock attitude in them than many bands who have "heavier" sound, although, admittedly, I haven't listened to them that much.
maneskin are rock only on the outside, they're the embodiment of every single clichè about rock, they're lyrics are terrible, google them. to stay in modern times Greta Van Fleet are a nice band, Florence and the machine are great even though more on the side of pop/rock, there're other modern rock bands out there maybe not as glamorous but with a personality (sometimes even Yungblud has better songs than them!). yes i like hard and classic rock, but i'm far from those who say that rock is dead and only the old glories can be considered true artists; also they did have attitude but also something more, if you have to rely on """"""""""""""""""scandals"""""""""""""""""""""" (in 2023? please...) and attitude to sell what you're selling then you don't have much to say. tropes, stereotypes and clichè can be fun, you have every right to like them, it doesn't mean they're good though or that you have no taste for that matter. also people have also the right to not like them, to look for something more and be vocal about it

This unforeseen mix will either be 🙈 or epic. I am praying for epic.

RD: Get Down on It/Yesterday/It's Raining Men

This is the second program I've heard use "It's Raining Men". I hope we have program after program of "It's Raining Men"🌦️.I am not being ironic, I really do. :)

 somebody pressed the random button on their vintage playlist
I always thought this program was the most random:
Sergei Voronov's FP, which consisted of:
"It's a Man's World," "Come Together," "At Last," and "Big Time Boppin' "
but I think we have a new winner LOL!

his long undisputed crown has been challenged at last

Flores/ Desyatov posted a clip from their new RD on their Instagrams! Music is by Def Leppard, Pour some sugar on me, choreo by @massyscali. I'm so excited!!! :cheer2: They look to have super programs with their FD to West Side Story (choreo by Kait Weaver)! 🥰 🔥

ETA:
They shared a clip from part 1 of their RD, so part 2 might include an additional 80s music selection. 😍

Right, having read this post, I want your professional opinion on this German band that I was a big fan of:

LaFee - "Virus"
LaFee - "Prinzesschen"
LaFee - "Was Ist Das?"
LaFee - "Mitternacht"
LaFee - "Heul Doch"

Here is a song which I can't include the title of as one of the words would probably set off the XenForo bleep machine (assuming it can speak German):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLWjwFNa25Q

And an album track that I love:

LaFee - "Jetzt Erst Recht"

Here is a less rocky song:

LaFee - "Wer Bin Ich?"

For some reason, the LaFee topic channel only has the orchestra version of this song, so I linked to a fan's copy of the original version.

Are they rock enough for you?

Lead singer Christina Klein left the band in 2010, and took the "LaFee" name with her. (The band brought in a new girl, Jana Wall, and was re-named "Tief". But, they didn't have the same success, and so didn't last long). And I wish she hadn't. I wish she released her solo material under her own name, because she has gone in a totally different direction. For me, LaFee had a distinctive style, and Christina's solo songs just don't fit with it. So, I tend to not refer to them as "LaFee" songs.

Anyway, Christina released a pile of 80's covers during the pandemic.

You said you wanted some early Madonna. Well, here is Christina's take one of her early hits:

Christina Klein - "Material Girl"

And here is her cover of a song I know you want to see skated to:

Christina Klein and Falco - "Rock Me Amadeus"

She has also done a take on me:

Christina Klein - "Halt Mich Fest"

(See what I did there? )

It's not the same, is it? 😞

Now we know: definitely Thomas Feiner version

Sorry. Not a fan of this dreary choice, which I think de-emphasizes the qualities that make him special.

It's not unique. Anybody could have skated to this dragass music.

For those who don't know me, I am a Deniss fan. I have loved him since "Putting on the Ritz".

This is THE worst version of Hallelujah I have ever heard, and that is saying something.o_O

I like the choreo and Deniss' commitment is admirable. I will watch on muting for the rest of the season. I will watch, because I like Deniss. But on muting. :(

Fixed that for you! ;)

I have to wholeheartedly agree about Deniss' choice of this version. First of all, I LOVE that song. Love it. But it's fast becoming a war horse in figure skating. And that particular version is beyond dreary. I can't believe Stephane (if that's who chose it) would use it.

But on another note, Lili, thanks for the updates. It's refreshing to see so many recently retired skaters getting into choreography.

Choreo is by Shae-Lynn Bourne, so high possibility she chose it?

eta:
here's a video. element placement seems pretty final.

Hannah Lim/Ye Quan (Korean Senior Ice Dance) : FD to Umbrellas of Cherbourg

A Prince RD and an Umbrellas of Cherbourg FD.... huh.

Prince and Parapluies de Cherbourg.. Honestly... not happy... It's kind of Virtue and Moir 2.0 programs. Now, to be fair, Cherbourg wasn't created by IAM... It's iconic though. If I think they can do Prince quite well, not convinced about the 🌂

To be fair, Hannah/Ye are probably the only current senior ice dance team I can think that will not get hate for doing programs to VM music, so I have to give it to IAM for recognizing that.
