Skate Ontario will be having commentary from Debbi Wilkes on their North Rink livestream. Entry lists haven't been updated since they were posted, so Roman's still listed as competing. Also no more Senior Synchro Free on the schedule.

Alberta has only two senior women competing now (no Grace Johnson), so they're the only section with more senior men than women this week.

Corey withdrew from the men's event and he isn't listed as having a bye like Conrad and Stephen in the free skate start order

Looks like Roman had a good skate though by the results (y)

I plan to watch the video archives, if they have any, tonight.

I can’t wait to watch Romsky!!

No Grace 😭😭😭😭

Roman is obviously not at 100% yet. But, he leads the field by over 15 points with simplified technical content. He doesn’t need multiple quads. He just needs to clean skate.

3Lz - 2T
I’m happy he has the lutzes and flips back. In the last recovery video, he could only do 3T, 3S and then 4S (once). This shows that he has all the triples back with the exception of the 3A. I’m assuming he has 3Lo and 3F back.

4S
His best jump. He also moved this element as the second jumping element. This is his bread and butter jumping element. I always thought he should move his combo to the beginning of his program.

2A
I’m not sure if this was done on purpose or not. I guess he has to get the 3A back and triple triple combos back. Will review the video tonight.

Anyways, almost all level 4 elements with the exception of one spin. Level 4 step sequence 👏 ; This gives him 40+ TES score and since he was clean, a 40+ PCS. I’m also sure this would be enough to score 80+ internationally. He would make the free skate at Worlds, with this simplified content. Third best Short program by a Canadian male skater, behind Stephen and Wesley.

I wonder if he will skate the free skate 🤔. He is safely ahead from the rest of the pack. Would love to see him just go for 4S combo, 4S, 3Lz combo, 3Lz, 3F, 3Lo, 2A eu 2S. 3S and 3T, if his 3Lo and 3F aren’t back. He would still score 70+
in TES and PCS 🤗

I can’t wait to actually watch his program tonight. Will probably watch it over and over again 🫣

Conrad and Amelia both mastered getting the combo out after a hands down. Also Kaetlyn Osmond is there as her coach :)

Not sure how much the commentary is adding. At least they're doing it like Ted and keeping it to the replays.

Haven’t started watching as I’m still at work. Looking forward to it and thanks for all the links. You are the best!!!
I couldn’t help and have already watched Roman’s SP five times. I love it 😍

What is this While My Guitar Gently Weeps cover? Like the instrumentals sound Japanese? Miriam's costume looks like it's trying to be a kimono. Had an issue with the loop, Miriam into 3rd.

I like Jessica Rousseau for skating to It's Raining Men. Fun choice.

Natalie Roccatani popped her axel and couldn't get the 3T-3T, but got the 3F-2T in the back half. 39.06, she didn't go to the Kiss and Cry :(

Mazin Thomas sounds like he's been taking commentary lessons from Ted, very positive and about the experience.

Fiona got a new costume for her short, orange to red ombre. Guess she's seeing how competing two disciplines will go before Nationals. Hand down on the 3F. I like Havana for her, it's fun. 50.97 and into first. I wish they'd put chairs in that Kiss and Cry.

Very close scores, Fiona doesn't have much of a lead over Katherine Medland Spence. Amelia is at around 46 and in 7th, so lots of potential for movement in the free.

It looks like Roman was only competing the short here, he's withdrawn from the free skate for tomorrow.

Alberta has a tech tracker now that junior men is starting. And chairs in the Kiss and Cry.

I like Ethan Scott, there's something earnest about his performance. He also did the hands down on the combo. Guess they teach that at Ice Palace. Fall on the 3Lo. I think he was going for the 3A in the summer, he did a 2A here instead. 48.28

Hey Matthew, good to see you again :) Mint green shirt with grey stripes on the front, I don't recognize the song off hand. It's smooth. 2A, popped his flip :( Shame about the flip, the other elements were lovely and I like the song choice. 63.3

Christopher Hammer, points for upbeat music. I like his energy. Also the hands down on the 2A was well timed to the 'woooo!' in the music. He's also competing in Junior Pairs. 45.74

Not so sure about that, really. Not being a downer here because of course he is recovering and we all want his best. But let's not think that a program without a 3-3 combo nor a 3axel would score 80 internationally and qualify for worlds LP. I think that in this program, he wouldn't have received much if any GOE on the combo/2axel. The quad was good. I am guessing that internationally, he would get scores like J4 and J5... not like some of the other judges still wishing to give him close to 9 in PCS... The steps were really good. Spins were okay but not as good as Roman can do them. Of course, still recovering. And he won't skate the LP so I guess it's an ongoing process for him. I wish him the best.

Again, not so sure we can compare scores here from various levels of competition. Conrad for instance, landed two quads in his SP and did attempt a 3axel. High 70s for him at a GP is probably the benchmark now. The real competition will be at Nationals anyway. None of the guys have accumulated any kind of body of work that is meaningful enough to put them at an advantage.

You forgot that he has a beautiful 4S. A triple triple combo usually only garners him two more points, as he usually doesn’t fully rotate the 3T. The 3A adds about five more points. So, 89 total, which is what he usually scores internationally when he is almost clean. So, it is possible to go over 80 with this layout. I don’t like the music. But, his skating skills really stood out in this field. Wishing him luck in Warsaw.

I didn’t watch the ONT Senior Women. When @saine posted the results, I wasn’t too excited about that event. So, I focused on Junior Girls and they were better. Megan Woodley, Lucille Yang and Michelle Lee were all better than Fiona 😜

I just finished watching AB Senior Men and Matthew Newman wasn’t good, at all.

Anyways, Romsky was the highlight for me. Time for me to watch his short program again 🤨

I didn't forget about his 4S. Sometimes it is a bit short. This one was good but not his best again. So would he get +3s and 4s? Some judges even in Canada thought it was just a +1.

But a 3-2 in the men, even in women is often seen as a mistake and rarely gets positive GOE internationally. It's not just about the BV being lower here it is about how international judges compare the skaters, because in the end, whether we like it or not, figure skating judges are still ranking skaters against each other and not always judging them independently, simply based on what they do.

And will gather PCS bonus :) I don't think we can really compare with this very weak field. How was his speed compared to GP skaters? Will his interpretation of this, I agree -insipid music- stand out? Not with this layout. Again, I am excited he is feeling well enough to skate this SP. It's a positive step towards recovery. I am happy he was able to skate it clean. The only thing I disagree with you (and it's been a while we haven't agreed LOL) it's on how this ranks internationally.

Haven't watched either.. but that's the norm in Canada : our juniors women are much better than our senior women... and I guess it's a good thing considering that we see this trend in very strong women skating nations like Russia, Japan and Korea.

Enjoy ! And for sure, Roman in this field, is a highlight for sure. Bruce is the most handsome though :)

Kayla Holiday was the only athlete worth watching here.
She skated quite well.
I’m still a bit sad Grace didn’t skate here
Does Grace have a medical bye or is she just not planning to compete anymore this season?

Thank you @saine for keeping all this data so well organized. I opened some of the threads (like all the summer events) but at this point in my season, I am very overwhelmed and wouldn't be able to keep up with all of what you have done for us Canadian fans lately ! You rock ! I hope you can keep going ;)
