2024 World Championships Men's Free Skate

Ah, Shoma - throw away this long program. I will happily look forward to your beautiful skating next year.
Ilia! The beauty of your jumps may be under appreciated by some here, but I sit in amazement at your quads that are so effortless, they look like triples. I appreciate that you are also focusing on the component score

So everyone can stop complaining about the back flip.
Leaving the arena tonight everybody was talking only about Adam’s backflip (and his historic comeback) and Ilia’s out of this world performance!
Adam is one of my favourite skaters, but Ilia got another fan in me tonight!
I totally agree that some skaters are so much better when seen live, and this week I managed to get quite a few of those on my list!

I'm envious that you got to see all that!

Memories to last a very long time. When the dust settles, please give us some thoughts about everything you did and saw.
I am still dizzy! But I will post when I can think. We had three super exciting days, the stadium was fantastic and every day we had multiple high and stirring moments!

Oh. My. God! So glad we went to Montreal!

I am still weak at the knees after seeing Malinin's skate.
Me too! That skate was definitely a once in a lifetime experience and I’m glad I got to witness it. The roar when he landed the 4A and the buildup after each jump. I won’t forgot how the crowd - myself included - just went bonkers after Ilia landed his last jumping pass.

Oh no, poor Kristi Y! 😅

Doesn't Midori still do adult competitions? She must really love to skate!

Anyway super fun competition! And it's not quite 1:30pm here in Aus, so I should probably get up off the couch and do something...
It is Sunday in AUS yes? Please forgive me if I think your witty posts here have earned a day free of chores. ;)

They have already reduced the value of quads and they gave the 4A a base value that doesn't reflect it's difficultly. When someone with only triples (many of them landing short but tech panel slept on it once again) can finish 5th 10 points off a medal, the scoring is probably too far in favour of the non-jumpers.
All falling at this year's championship caused a lot of this. Out of the top 10 only 3 or 4 skated clean. When Adam jumped from 19th to 3rd just because he skated clean. It was a weird night. I am happy that Jason skated so well. But Ilia stole the show and threw down a skate for the ages. Didn't matter if he was in pain he went full out did not water down anything just flat out skated the best he ever had. Ilia is a big event skate the bigger the event the better he does. He is one tought kid. He now has the title and I think that he going to keep for very long time. He is king now soak in you have earned it Ilia. Now if we can get Lucas Brousard to blossom into his potential. The combination of Jason, Lucas, and Ilia for the Olympic team of 2026 would be my dream team. We have just about 2 years to wait for the Olympics Games..

Oh. My. God! So glad we went to Montreal!

I am still weak at the knees after seeing Malinin's skate.

Also, yes, Adam's climb was epic, and Yuma's jumps are really fantastic live and he has lively power in his skating.

I was supersad that Cha wasn't quite recovered and I really want to see him in a competition where he skates well.

I also was happy to see Shaidorov despite it not being the best one for him and I hope he can develop further along the power and rink coverage, because he is super elegant.
So happy you were able to watch live and in person.

The only downside to this great event is Selevko placing 11th. I know he wanted to get a second spot for Estonia, but that was always going to be very difficult. I hope he’s not kicking himself too much over the missed combo. He should be proud regardless. This was a big moment for him and it showed that Europeans wasn’t a one-off. He’s had a good season.

I just wish Jason had a more interesting LP. Never liked Impossible Dream. I hope he'll compete next season and do something really inspirational for World's in Boston...something to top 2016! 💚
Jason is on my “all time favourite list” , but I was not a fun of his LP this year!
Don’t get me wrong, he skated beautifully and mesmerizing as usual, but oh, I would have loved to see this week his Sinnerman SP and his Riverdance LP ( 2 of my favourite Jason’s programs I’ve never seen live!)

What a treat that you were there and saw this event live. I'll be going to Boston next year, so looking forward to that!

It is indeed!

And you'll be happy to know I'm mostly sitting around, although I did have to put my laundry on otherwise I wouldn't have anything to wear to work tomorrow!

Yes. I think she can still do an axel too.

Now that Ilia has won the world title maybe NBC and USFS can stop hiding him. Here is the Man who going to be one of the headliners for the 2026 Olympics so start giving him the respect and coverage he deserves. He could be the person to bring skating back in the United States.
I wonder if it’s not because they pre awarded the gold medal to Nathan in his first Olympics and look what happened. I’m not sure NBC and USFS are hiding him as much as they’re hiding skating in general
