2024 JGP Riga Cup Rhythm Dance

The Finnish team here is in a Smart/Dieck situation, as in both are not Finnish by birth but she partnered with a Finnish skater, split with said Finnish skater, and then got a new non-Finnish partner to represent Finland together. How fun.

I know @tsuyoboogie mentioned them, but SumiIbu (the Japanese team) are in this warmup group and I have to shout them and their team out. They teamed up when they were very young (like 4 and 6) in 2016, and have been coached by Cathy Reed since 2017. In a country where a lot of skaters switch from singles to ice dance, this is one of the first teams to have started out in ice dance. They've been stuck in novice for the past few years due to age restrictions, so despite being together for almost 8 years this is their first international event.

MiStW2 + MiStM2 (midline step)
RoLi4 (rotational lift)

They're just so adorable! While they seemed a little tenative, the foundational skating skills are incredible. They skate so close together in hold and have great knee bend and edge depth, especially for just coming out of novice. The midline step was easily their best element, but overall for their age and their international debut that was excellent. Everything is just so neat and polished.
