2024 CS Lombardia Trophy Women's FS

I have simpler tastes than most, I guess. I loved all 4 top programs because there was lots of energy and was particularly happy that Glenn finally delivered a cleanish free with her superb 3A. I hope it means she is past the mental block and would get on the podium in Boston. Also, Sakomoto found the style of the costume that really works for her. Great start of the season.

Glenn:She lands two 3A that plus for sure, but i don't like this type of Amber. It looks better than last year FS.but still average compared to her short.Maybe this win will give her more confidence.

Everhardt:Two solid well executed programs.Really good job.

Sakamoto:Kinda mid work form her. Both programs has things to improve. She is having a lot of fun,but need to work this more.Hope this was only warmup before GP.

Gubanova:Dress change asap, second jump?Excellent choreo stsq.Dress colors are not fitting her completely.Just change it.Idk what's happen in Lutz try but she was looking like a person who don't know what to do.Positives are Choreo and Stsq.Looking good there.

Rinka:That was rough to watch. Not gonna comment more.

So, in the first half?
Doesn’t this layout lower her base value?
No, assuming the spins/step sequence levels are the same in both programs and she doesn't get any edge calls, her BV would go up by 0.55. I also think the maximum potential GOE would go up.

However, with the risk of edge calls, I'd still rather have her go back to the old layout, if she's still comfortable with doing it. I'd love to see her Euler in competition at least once, but can live with having seen this video:

Wast at Bergamo and tried very hard not to fall asleep during the first two groups (the seats had no backrest which made it even hard to doze off).

But the third group had Niina Petrokina who is brilliant to watch even on a bad day. The Dune free was a fine vehicle for her and I hope she gets into a place when the jumps roll out clean. She has an amazing presence on the ice, she hears the music and skates to it. Plus the choreo is actually interesting.

The last group was a bit hot and cold. Pezzetta had little else than the jumps - it was not-so-good-quadster-type empty indeed.

I stayed awake with Gubanova's free which is an improvement compared to the couple of previous ones. Solya had been able to put a bit of energy into it.

I am on a fence about Kaori doing a jazzy piece. The stands were on the wrong side of the rink and it was hard to know what it really looked like when you mostly saw her back. Using such a fast tempo piece with a skater whose specialty is glide and flow does not strike me as a clever choice.

Sarah Everhardt was definitely the revelation of this competition. The Firebird was conventionally choreographed but she did it just fine. Well-deserved silver!

Funnily enough there is nothing particularly memorable about Amber's free apart from maybe the 3A, kind of middle of the road women's fs stuff. But she delivered and am happy to see her getting over all the difficulties.

"Yesterday the short program ended early, so I had some time at night. I watched the musical with English subtitles. But I could only get a vague idea of the story so when I return, I plan to watch it properly with Japanese subtitles.”"

This is my problem with Kaori lately. Or maybe it has always been a problem. She always goes to these famous choreographers and they all make her skate a program they envisioned, but not necessarily with Kaori in mind. You can tell she has no idea what she is skating to, I don't think she really feels the music. Personally, I wouldn't choose these American songs she has been skating to the last few seasons, I wouldn't even choose something overly feminine for her, Matrix was perfect. Or something like Katarina Witt's Robin Hood program.
