Not bad by little B/K. Their early events were a disaster.
I don't think it's going to happen.It's almost November and Osokina still hasn't learned BoDs.
But, overall, nice pair skating. Pairs are my favorite event and the state of international pair skating is just sad so I'm always grateful for the Russian cup series.

I hope someone here stays for ID. This is going to be a bloodbath.
It all depends if my stream cooperates! Hoping for Stepanova, Khavronina, Leontieva podium in that order.

Because there are more ice dance teams than pairs.Twelve dance teams but only four pairs ...
Probably more ice dance teams than women (also applies to the international scene).

I'm glad commentators are travelling to competitions again. Last season they were in a studio in Moscow during the stages.
Why is that, do you think? It's sad to see so few pairs. I know there are those that think "why bother going into pairs, you'll never make the team anyway" but still.... it should be the crown jewel of Russian skating.
Still, can't remember seeing a three-to-one ratio between them before. I hope pairs doesn't fall out of favour, Russia has always been so strong there.

They have changed the rules because they are really MANY ice dancers. If they didn't, many good teams would be without any stages.
What's more, there are more good teams than spots at Nationals.

Not recognising anyone yet, the only ones I know are Elizaveta and Bazin and Stepanova and Bukin, I am terrible at remembering names especially when couples keep breaking up.

Now on the ice Daria Savkina and Alexander Vakhnov. This is their second season together (they started training together much earlier but didn't compete for some reason). Last season they had an outstanding tango FD.

1) Pairs is the most dangerous and very difficult discipline. It also requires specific height of the skaters.
2) Previously we had a wave of former juniors every season. But because of the updated limits we got a few seasons almost without new names. What's more the Fed has made the rules even more strict this season. But it's temporary. Next season Chernyshova, Cheremnykh and others will become age-eligible. We will have a wave of juniors each season again.
3) This is a popular discipline to change countries.
4) While young skaters aren't coming yet, older skaters suffer from injuries. Chikmareva, Pavliuchenko, Sobinina, etc.
I think things will start to get back to normal next season.

Fun skate from Sasha and Sasha.
I loved that tango. She's very suited to those kind of sharp movements... this RD, her movements were too loose and uncontrolled.
Prokopets/Vaskovich are also quite wild, lol.

Aleksandra Prokopets and Aleksander Vaskovich are having their third season together. Their biggest achievement was 6th place at Nationals in 2022/23. Last season they had a kind of stagnation so they have changed coaches.
