2024 Finlandia Trophy Free Dance

I assume they are going to start last in RD then? Well, then I am sure G/F are out of the podium.
Yeah seems like it. Crazy! I wouldn’t rule out G/F - they had a major mistake, skated tight and not that neatly in Angers. I suspect they will be working out all those kinks. F/G only won both their Grand Prixs because the top teams fell on elements which cost them the gold. I suspect the top 3 will be the same this year at the GPF as last year, barring any major mistakes. What order they will be on the podium, who knows!

I also wouldn't rule out the other top two teams making mistakes and having both GF and FG on the podium. Or to be honest, any combination of the top 5 couples. As we've seen, ice is slippy

Looking at protocols

Piper and Paul got a ! on their choreo assisted jump which means "element not meeting all the requirements" and GOE was lowered. They lost quite a lot of points there. Not sure why and how different it was from Skate Canada.

Piper and Paul didn't get any of their components scores (final totals) into the 9s. That's the way it should be with a major mistake... We have seen otherwise at other events for other teams not needed to be named.. (this is not against the teams who get forgiven for their mistakes but against the panels who have forgiven some teams in the past)
That is the way it should be, agreed. The panel seemed a lot stricter in their judging than others, that’s for sure.

The thing that kills me is that this is one of their better programs... I don't necessarily want N/K back but it would be nice if Z/K had programs that'd make me fall for them and not just thinking that contrary to some people's opinions I do not find the two to have that much chemistry on-ice, never mind their dating status
And some of us love this program and think they have both charisma and chemistry.

My main reason for travelling to Helsinki for this Grand Prix was to have probably my last chance to see (in person) Piper and Paul skate. I've seen them perform live twice before and knew it would be worth the journey. I wasn't disappointed - even with the shock fall, their free skate was stunning and unique.

Watching rinkside, I really enjoyed both Finnish teams, but especially Turkius and Versluis - so many stunning details - I'd have had them win silver.

I've never seen Zingas and Kolesnik skate in real life before, but I was mesmerised by their free skate today.

I'm impressed with the new details Fear and Gibson have added since they premiered their programmes at the British Qualifiers in August.

Piper and Paul were my stand-out favourites. I'm so glad I got to see this free programme. I'm rooting for them to win GPF.

I think the GPF is going to be so interesting, as I expect the top 3 to come in fighting after not being top qualifiers (seem to remember G/F showing up with a fire at the final after losing to F/G at NHK last year). That said, they all need to work on things... C/B need to rework the RD further and focus on 50s/60s, G/F and G/P need new FD costumes. The both look cheap and not polished for potential world champions (Paul's back less jacket is just a miss and poor fitting)

I'm sorry, but Emilea saying that she always wanted a flower crown post-FD and now posting on her IG stories photo of her still in the crown in a bus from the arena with caption "never taking this thing off" just made me cry while at the hotel.
I've honestly never expected my poor crafting making skaters feel so loved and appreciated, but here I am. It was so worth to go, to be active today and make so many smiles, even from Piper and Paul, calling me by Mt real name and thanking me for coming to support them. The surprise on Yuka and Juho's faces, them making it work to stretch that damn cardboard to put them onto their heads...

I'm just so so so grateful that I made it all happen. As I say, if it makes one smile, it's worth to do.

Thank you for making this GP so special for the skaters!❤️❤️❤️😍 The crowns are stunning!

Wow of all of teams F/G are the only ones to win 2 GP's this season who would have thought that would happen. Are the top 3 teams perhaps running out of gas a year before Milan? One disadvantage all 3 teams have is they barely compete before the GP because of their ages. I mean when is the last time C/B competed before the GP season they always seem rusty at the start of the season because their programs have no mileage.

What do you mean, their programs have no mileage?

I mean they don't compete before Skate America and get their programs out there for the judges to see.
Not sure if this is totally necessary (judges seeing their programs in advance). But Evan sure has seemed "rusty" at the start of the GP comps the past few years so maybe doing a lesser event might get the kinks out before SA.

I am trying to find things to say :) which is usually not that hard for me LOL... but no.. I am empty.

I will say one thing : there is a slight possibility that the highest ranked qualifiers at GPF end up in 6th place when other teams finally stop making mistakes ;)
If they stop making mistakes.

And that's more than a tad mean spirited, I mean it's one thing to hope your teams do well but offering someone coming last as a cheering thought....?
