I rarely play the game, and usually I just go off gut - two years ago someone skated a program I liked or saw potential in... so let's put them third!

But this time - I guessed Alisa and Misha would win! Just because I really like them. I have no idea where I placed the rest of the field, so I probably won't win anything officially. But I got the top of the podium correct, so I'm awarding myself the gold medal. Just like in Covid, I'll put it on myself, thank you very much.

According to various X accounts (so it can't be wrong) Danny's arm buckled at the beginning of the lift and never got it fully extended. So, no lift. I did see the arm buckle at the beginning in real time, so I wasn't surprised the lift came down - but I didn't anticipate how disastrously it would end.

Yep, I saw trouble coming with that lift, too, but like you I didn't expect the end result.
 
I don't think they've been announced yet.

ETA - I just checked the USFSA Facebook page, the only thing recently posted was the Ice Dance Team announcement.

We will have to see. When it comes to the team event, we will have to see who are the team competing and who are the skaters opting to participate... it's possible that a team like RR may decide to focus on their pairs event only... or that some of the Japanese single stars decide the same too... It has happened in the past. I find it way too soon to even think about it..

Are you sure about Parkman? I thought his father was American or something? So, he doesn't need to get citizenship, am I wrong?

Efimova didn't land her jump in the short program- it was supposed to be a triple toe loop. Also her 3S in the free is marked q and her second 2A is underrotated. But I'm super happy to see them attempting the 3-2-2 combo.

You said “real time”, are you there in person? I didn’t read earlier in the thread.


I actually missed the GP series and only started watching again at the final. So I have only seen K/O this season once. Is it just me or was something off tonight from the start? They looked markedly slower than they did at the final. I know the throws have been an issue but I remember them looking better at the final. The entries were just so slow tonight. Like almost as slow as brand new team Shin/Nagy (who show excellent promise and should be very proud).



I rewatched and really every other element was pretty decent except the mistakes. The other lifts were fine. But the program was so lacking and none of the transitions felt impactful the way they usually do. I’m usually very impressed by their skating skills and choreography even when they make mistakes. Like they have blown these throws before and still left the impression that it was beautifully skated. That is exactly how they won last year with something like 3 falls. I’m just wondering if it felt this way in person.

Parkman was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia on April 17, 1999.[2] At the age of one-and-a-half years old, Parkman and his parents moved to Seattle, Washington, before moving back to Russia when Parkman was a pre-teen. He is bilingual and able to fluently communicate in Russian and English.[3]

Sorry. When I said "in real time" I meant "as I was watching the program as it happened on television."

It's difficult to assess speed on television, so I can't speak to whether Ellie and Danny were slower tonight than normal. To me, they looked hesitant entering some of the big elements, and I think those have to be approached with confidence.

I think - and this is just armchair psychology - that skating after Alisa and Misha tore the roof off the arena must have been hard. Even though they entered the free with a little cushion from the short, they have sometimes in the past been shaky on the SBS and on the throws. They had about a seven point lead I think, so they needed a score of about 135. That's a big number if they had mistakes on those problem elements. And, well, they did have mistakes, and it was game over pretty quickly.

They're a very nice pair, and I hope they shake this disappointment off quickly.

I thought the deal with Parkman was that he hadn't been released by the Georgian federation - but now I'm questioning that.

Although why he would have been skating for Georgia when all arrows should be pointing towards USA and Russia is a mystery, so maybe that's just wrong.

He was Russian skating for Georgia, so before he could compete internationally for the US, he did have to be released from the Georgian Fed.
