2025 U S. Nationals Senior Pairs Free Skate

The first defense of a title is notoriously the hardest skate of all for a skater. The pressure monster ate Ellie and Danny. They appeared slower and more cautious out of the gate this evening. They didn’t have the speed and attack they needed to land those throws and jumps. Oh no, and what a disastrous ending to the program with the fall on the lift. Shades of Mishina/Galliamov during the 2022 Olympic team event FS. :(

ellie and danny are often unstable in the LP

But they are really well matched in terms of lines. Better than Kam/Oshea
OMG, the comparisons of Alisa and Misha to Gordeeva and Grinkov are really absurd and I don’t see it. They really have not proven themselves worthy of comparison to such a god tier, legendary greatest pairs team of all time. It was, however, the best they have ever skated and they should be really proud of their effort here. Her jumps still give me cause for conreally

@NoNameFace has competition... flower crowns
Catching up as my body couldn't stay awake - oh, it's never a competition! ;)
I wish I was able to be everywhere during the season and make as much flower crowns as possible, but it's impossible. I'm happy people across the world are making crowns for skaters, because skaters deserve all the love :)
ETA - I found photos of Mark Sadusky wearing the crown on IG, what a fabulous effort whoever made it!

Well... I think it will be hard. I can easily imagine the top six made of the Japanese, the Germans 1, the Canadians 1, the Italians 1, the Georgians and the Hungarians.

Then, there are also Germans, Italians and Canadians 2.

So, to finish 6 and 7 the Americans 1 and 2, will both need to beat five of these nine teams. .
I agree with this. I don't see this being easy at all.

Aww, that was such a painful, unfortunate skate for Emily and Spencer; not at all indicative of how wonderfully they were skating in practice. However, I know practice is very different from competition and the nerves and coming back from injury and lack of training time really got to them. So sad!
I think they need to work with a mental/performance coach (whatever they are called), particularly Emily. Although very talented and capable, she tightens up and seems to not trust herself under pressure. Spencer is such a ham and tends to find another gear in competition so I worry less about him.

They were playing backstreet boys in the arena and they showed a clip of him singing to the tune…. And playing it up for the cameras 🙄, before intermission. This was on NBC coverage. Instead, he should have been focusing on the upcoming performance. Perhaps, he should have used that time, to practice the lifts 😜

Danny just seemed overconfident and unfocused. When, I saw that, I commented to my friend that they weren’t going to have a good skate, and he will probably screw up on a lift, and then, that actually happened at the end of their free skate, and my friend mentioned I was right.
A pairs skater I know who used to train with him said it wasn’t uncommon for him to have falls on lifts.

My two cents on this is that Danny and Ellie reverted back to performances from the past. What happened last night? Nerves? High expectations? Ellie has always been the weak link but I had hoped, after the GP success, that she would have progressed. I do feel really bad for them and the shame of how their program ended. Danny is one of the sturdiest, most reliable pairs partners and falling like that was just a fluke. Unfortunately they'll have to live with that one for awhile. I wish Emily and Spencer had more time to practice this year as they've always been favorites of mine. Alisa and Misha are very exciting to watch but comparing Alisa to Katia Gordeev is absurd. I wish them well at Worlds.

Regarding Ellie and Danny, I think the fall at the end was the timing of her dismount from the lift. She seemed outside the usual path of dismount and it pulled Danny off balance and he protectively guided her to the ice as he fell. I don't see this as any serious issue but they did seem slower which might be a focus for future competitions- go for it, don't skate not to lose.

Efimova has been compared to Katia before... it's nothing new. Not because she and partner are as wonderful and accomplished as the best pair of all times :) but because she has a beautiful back, just like Katia. It's not about the achievements or the talent but about her posture/lines. Context is everything.

I'm very disappointed that Ellie and Danny had that poor skate last night. It seems they had progressed and improved and would be able to withstand the pressures of being the favorite. sigh And for Emily and Spencer something similar. :( I appreciate the steadiness of E/M and I'm glad they won with a good skate. They have jelled as a team quickly. Oh well for whoever goes to worlds, may both teams skate as best as the possibly can. I'll cross all my fingers for that.

Alisa facially looks like Katia and her posture and Misha's size are reminiscent of G/G. Bigger concern is citizenship. How will they be able to represent the US at the Olympics in less than 2 years?

my guess is that they will announce both the pairs and men teams after the men's LP..... at this point, if they'd planned to share before the men, we would probably already know...
This is likewise my guess. It can’t be an easy decision; no matter what they decide, there will be very well-taken arguments against it.
Waiting to announce the pairs and men at the same time will help to spread the focus.

Less than one year.
