2025 World Championships Pairs Short Program

"They seem like a team, who has been together for years" - Because they have, this is their third season together. Sure, there are teams who have been together for longer, but this is not a super new pairing.

Wow, I didn't expect to see such a strong skate from one of the pairs in the opening flight as what I just saw from Vouillamoz/Bouvart.

Ok, Geynish/Chigirev already beat their score but I didn't take a look at entry list and I was well aware of their ability having watched them this season.

Huge welcome for the homeboys, Efimova/Mitrofanov

I once saw Mitrofanov compete with his former partner at the Cranberry Cup, at their home rink, Skating Club of Boston. The audience support from their friends and teammates was deafening. He must be a good guy!

Are they decided today? I thought it was the top 16 after the free?
It's the top 16 in total standing after the Free. Same for the singles competitions, it's just that people keep forgetting that qualifying for the Free doesn't technically earn you the Olympic berth, because of multiple spots being earned by countries without the same number of FS qualifiers and in this case 4 more teams qualifying for the Free than possible Olympic qualifiers (and in Ice Dance, it's one more team).

There's a maximum of 4 pairs per warm-up though, so the same number of warm-ups and ice resurfacings. It's not quite as long as the women's event, but longer than a singles event with the same entry number would be.
I did the math, and there were 10 less skaters at 6 minutes 10 seconds each for a bit over an hour less time for pairs vs women. The totals bear that out (from the detailed time schedules) 4:40 vs 3:37. The warmups, ice resurfaces, etc depend on the number of flights (not number of skater), which were the same.

Well, that was an admirable recovery after a flukey nightmare start - this team has a lot of really nice elements, particularly with their massive throws. They, like a lot of the other teams in these first few groups, need to work on their skating skills and in-betweens, but overall this was a solid program.

Thank you for doing the math❤️. I don’t math.
